That would be devastating, especially if its unforeseen. That brief combo that he did would just destroy an aggressor no matter the size. Everyone's head is sensitive, hammer fists and elbow strikes to the head like that (especially the temple) will bring down giants of men.
These strikes are for self-defense purposes only. One should use these strikes if he felt is life is threatened. Thanks for your comment and stay safe.
The strike is straightforward. The split second you use move your shoulder back for the wind up is the amount of time it takes me to hit you. You talked about the stance first, now connect your feet to your fist. The wind up that you're looking for comes through the hips because your feet are placed most efficiently. We called that arm placement the Ed Sullivan stance. Great stance found in hsing i kung fu.
Rodin's "The Thinker" defense. Also, deftly executable from the sitting position, elbow resting on the knee. After watching the ending sequence of (whatever that was supposed to illustrate?) additional strikes, I was reminded of watching two rubenesque Young women who locked horns in the high school cafeteria slap-fighting, although they threw in the much underrated but oft incorporated hair pulling technique to really provide the icing for their chocolate knuckle sandwich. Watching this demonstration reminds me of the time-tested and proven martIal arts maxim that positioning, maintaining proper distance, footwork and balance are the key fundamental components to every successful fighter, regardless of the discipline or technique they choose to employ. Getting over the front of your skis or sitting back too far on them is incredibly analogous to doing those things in combat sport. The only difference is instead of falling on the snow you may wake up on the concrete sidewalk!
Please make more videos of hammer fist. More on like advanced angles or like which poinrd to make contact with during a hammer fist, etc... Great video.
Indeed a powerful move, only when in real danger do you use it, however, key to not telegraphing is to remain calm. People typically do not expect strikes that can put them on thier ass at close distances and so much less when you de-escalate - in thier mind you're weak, and on the run. They do quickly figure out that you have a valid reason to be calm... Since one can only truly be calm if there isn't any threat present.
Today at the gym, I was training hammer fist on a stairmaster boxmaster tower. A guy told me that I should not use hammerfist cus I might inury my wrist and a normal boxing fist is better. But not sure if it can really hurt the wrist. But I think it is a good idea to discuss it.
Imagine, one of the greatest boxers in the world (Mike Tyson) already broke his hand with "normal" punches. If that can happen to him, it can happen to any of us. www.latimes.com/archives/la-xpm-1988-08-24-sp-897-story.html Take a look at this clip: ua-cam.com/video/S-g2Xfw9DUE/v-deo.html Hope this helps. Actually i only see a use for that against Bullies that talk themselves into "bully-range", but deescalating would mean backing off before he even comes into striking range. And from that point of view he has an advantage by throwing a simple straight to the face, as he has more range with that as you have with the hammerfist. Additionally folding your arms would handicap yourself covering the target area.
I just had two Op's on my right hand after a dislocated finger and I also had 24 fractures, I am healing now but I cant use my right hand for defence. How effective is this method with the left hand ?
The hammer fist is a great strike . I don’t know why but the king fu phoenix eye fist will make your hammer far harder . Try it and you will see It really puts an edge on your shot
hey nick i was thinking about this, what if you start from the inside swinging outward then grabing the back of the head for takedown. what are your thoughts
Hey Nick, my only concern is the hammerfist seems to bend my wrist and could cause an injury if I'm not careful I was trying some ground n pound with elbows and hammerfists and my wrists still hurt :/ What could I be doing wrong?
Great question. To avoid injuries while doing a hammer fist is to keep your wrist aligned with the bone of your forearm. Try now angling your wrist. Hope this helps.
Yes indeed Miguel, the hammer fist strike is a good first strike option delivered from a passive stance. To be used only when you feel you're life is threatened. It's a very powerful self defense strike. Take care
Dear Nick, Hi there... good video thanks!. I guess you could tone this down too?... if you didnt want to break the nose, could you go for jaw line? (im not talking about survival) ... one of the most valuable things youve said i recon is practing with an partner calling out the moves in slow mo. "you do that, so im going to go here and do this" ... knife attacks, dont be a hero, talk them out of it "here take my stuff" and position being aware of enviroment ...pinning weapon, stepping into and keep knife arm closed off. ... and that armed robbery video on other channel nick drossos Things i remember off hand. stay real, be safe, blessings
Alejandro Romero Osnaya hi there... im not qualified to answer, so perhaps you might like to ask that question and start a new thread. As for toning it down... i looked into it, apparently hitting the jaw with hammer first is not toning it down, its a jaw breaking strike. So perhaps... hmm... cheak bone under the eye? dont know In a toning down situation, id want to dominate... not obliterate
But wouldn't it tip off the attacker if he was up and in your face in an aggressive manner and you suddenly assumed the "Benny" stance? How do you assume this stance without making it seem too obvious to the attacker that you're about to do something?
Quite possibly the oldest form of attack used by humans. This is how our ancient ancestors fought each other before they had weapons. If you think about it, this is the best way to hit someone since the bottom of the hand is padded and you won't risk breaking your fingers (except maybe your pinky if you're unlucky) not to mention our arms are designed for this kind of downward motion. Not so coincidentally, this is how chimpanzees and gorillas beat each other to death.
Emma McMurray It can be used on a person who is trying to come close to you and pushing you with chest and shoulders. People tend to do that when they get cocky
i don't think that punch is gonna do the trick in a real fight. Looks cool though, very hollywood like Bourne movie style. In a real fight i think you're better off swinging the whole arm around and hit the jaw with a single powerful hammer. You can still find a relaxed excuse to move your left or right hand across your body to maintain the element of surprise, but the full swing would hit so much harder than this. That's the biggest issue i have a with martial arts, they make everyone want to do these hollywood/kungfu moves and imitate them badly, then when it comes to a real fight it's the dumb bastard that just swings his fist into your face and knocks your teeth out.

Could I buy a Bob dummy, like the one in your video, to practise palm and hammer fist strikes at home?
Haha, I love how you're just standing there having a casual, relaxed pose and then... BAM! Hammer fist!
Learn more from your 2-5 minute videos than I have in some half hour, forty five minute sessions. Solid stuff. Many thanks.
Thank you very much for the feedback, it's much appreciated. Stay safe.
I call foul! Lol
What if the opponent has arms?
If they aren't expecting it they are getting hit
Criz Jay oh ok thank you
as you can see if he has their head and is mixing combos the guy isn't going to fit his hand into Nicks grip
Seriously
So ur gonna fight someone without arms

@@codereddefense Agreed.
Next time the teacher makes fun of me in class
I wont do this
Nick's regular viewers know, when he puts his hand on his chin like he's thinking, he's really getting ready to crush a face.
Yeh i know right, as soon as his hand touches his chin shits about to go down

Steve: Not a room for a regular punch you.

Hand on your chin also makes your trachea a little less accessible

Hammer fists, I like them.. involve the hip in the strike, and use most strength on contact. Learning by watching. Follow up strikes.
Yes indeed Amy, hammer fist are very powerful for self defense. Take care.
Great vid man subscribed. Listen to the dummy move after a strike and it sounds like the terminator song lol
Awesome, thanks Randy for your comment and for subscribing, it's appreciated. Take care and stay safe.
So essentially I would throw a hammer fist from a partial cross guard? Interesting. Never thought of it like that.
Yes indeed Miguel, the hammer fist strike is a good first strike option delivered from a passive stance. To be used only when you feel you're life is threatened. It's a very powerful self defense strike. Take care

Toning down sounds helpful. I'd appreciate tips on how to contain drunk friends or women agressors.

Great self defense strike when needed!

Karate/Taekwondo guys take note.. this is how you are supposed to use the movement which you like to call "inner block" or "aan makki" or "uchi uke"
Nick you sound like whenever you go into a bar/club you're ready for a fight lol. But anyways keep up the great work!
He was a bouncer before, so i guess thats why :-)
Id need a wheelbarrow to carry my balls if i were to beat a bear in king of the hill
You think the opponent is gonna let that happen ?
For sure, you will have resistance, but it's always cool to train for more. Take care and stay safe.
çok güzel olmuş
What if my enemy has arms ....... what do I do then?
Emma McMurray The same thing.
Emma McMurray It can be used on a person who is trying to come close to you and pushing you with chest and shoulders. People tend to do that when they get cocky
Wow, I'm first,Great vid BTW
Plz reply nick
It does not hurt your arm or hand either.
No, because the strike is done by the side of the hand. It's quite an effective self defense strike!
If you are that good, why don't you prove that in the ring?
And his hand comes back telegraphing!
