Power Management for Telco Operators (Français)

Energy prices increase the need for energy saving in all domains.
How do we transform the "Green Computing" buzzword into real actions ?
CNF/VNF are not yet known for their energy efficiency as the underlying technologies require the platform to be active 24/7, with CPU cores being used at 100% even when there is no traffic.
Scale-in and scale-out are already in place and shall be adopted more with the containerization of the network functions.
Yet, what can we do from the platform perspective to reduce the global power consumption, while keeping "0 packet dropped" as a base requirement?
In this presentation, we will discuss the different options to reduce the power consumption of an NFV platform, and the required modifications from UEFI configuration to VM tuning, as well as the application modifications.
We will review the whole stack changes, from a low-level kvm patch to enable telemetry, up to the recent updates in Nova.
