Just a quick heads up. I was notified that there is a small errata in the pattern as of 4pm EST 11-12-19. Row 7 of the lace should read: 7th row: K5. *K3. yo. Sl2k. K1. p2sso. YO, K4. Rep from * to last 4 sts. K4.
Thanks Marly, I was just about to tell you that. This is why I love tutorials, you explain and show it so well I can see if there is a mistake in the pattern.
Hello I'm a 16 year old from the Philippines and has 7 years experience in crocheting but a beginner in knitting😁 but while watching and doing the same thing what your doing it feels like I'm a pro, thank you😍
Marly Bird, you are the best teacher! Because of you, after 4 years of trying, I’m now knitting socks!!! Thank you so much for all your tutorials!! This scarf is beautiful! I’m not sure what colors I’ll be using to make it but I’m sure it’ll be very pretty, thanks to your help!!!
Amazing!! I've been looking to learn that pattern all my life. I'm going to knit it with my left overs as an initial renewal of knitting life. it'll go with those colours real good. Gold, grey and sky blue! Thank you so much, I'm a fan!
Thank you so much for your videos. I did this as my first attempt at lace. Definitely not perfect but the blocks made it so easy to go back if I messed up too bad. You definitely give me the confidence to try new things!
Marly, I have to tell you this. I'm a yarn snob, kinda maybe tacky....but it makes knitware amazing! But prices are high. A scarf recently I made cost almost $200.00 bucks. So I tried your yarn becsuse its sw merino wool. I'm sensitive to itchy wools. Your yarn is fabulous. It feels terrific, works up beautiful, great stitch definition, just great. Blocks great. Price is very affordable. I am very much in love so any solid colors in my work thsts worcested weight I'm gonna choose Chic Sherp. Cant wait until you bring out more fibers too. I have been wanting to tell you his. This popped up in my play list today.....perfect!
Thank you so much for telling me this! If you could also send a note to yarnspirations that would be a HUGE help to keep this yarn on the market. I appreciate your kind words so much!!!
Such a great teacher, love your tutorials. So easy to follow and understand. I started knitting in March 2020 when Covid hit and haven't stopped. Thank you for sharing.
I'm using this as my first time doing anything with lace. The video was super helpful. As a combination knitter I wasn't getting the center line so seeing it done to figure out what I needed to change on my end helped so much! Thank you for this beauty scarf!
Normally I am a blues/pinks/purples kinda gal but for this I went outside of my color comfort zone; Polo, Green Tea & Leather. In that order. Very anxious to see it all take shape, and excited as a brand new knitter to do yarn overs/togethers/etc for the first time!
Hello! I've just furnished my scarf and I love it! I haven't tried lace patterns before and therefore it was a big challenge for me. But, the result of my trial is really good. Thank you very much for this wonderful pattern, Marly😍
Colors: charcoal, white & oxford grey - just started the border and ready with the color change to white ( Lace Pat). Taking your advice about using the stitch markers. (Also, thanks for referencing the WS & RS I found it helpful and I only just started)
Such a pretty pattern, and it's so much simpler than it looks like it'd be! I'm making this for my mom for Christmas this year. I've selected KnitPicks' Wonderfluff with 5 colors (black, dark grey, light grey, white, and "sweet pea" pink). I can't wait to give it to her!!
Didn't have the same yarn yet but still wanted to try it out. I'm using Bernat Sheep (ISH) in solid Lime and stripes Earth. I'm on row 9 of the body so not sure if I'll introduce another color yet or not. It's turning out nice so far though.
My apologies to you, Marley Bird....because I was impatient to get the pattern. I was finally able to download your beautiful scarf pattern! Thanks for helping this senior citizen to Navigate the web and get the pattern! Looking forward to trying this! Thank you
Thank you so much for this pattern. 😊 I have crocheted for years but never Knit. When so decided I needed a challenge and teach myself to knit, I saw this pattern/tutorial and decided this would be the pattern I would learn with. Well....1 week later and MANY rip outs, I think so finally have it!! Lol You wouldn’t happen to have a matching hat or headband and fingerless glove patterns do you?
Hi Marly Nice scarf. I like the colors you used . Hobby Lobby opened a new store close to my house. They sell your yarn so I'll see what colors they have and make one in they colors you used and one in another color.
I’m a total newbie. Challenging myself to make this because it’s a gorgeous pattern. I have a question. The yarn I have (and love) is thin. And I was recommended to use 4mm needles with it. Would that still work for this? Or will the scarf come out too small?
Honestly, I'm not sure how I am seeing this video right now since it's unlisted and I JUST subscribed. So even as someone who wasn't subscribed to your channel, I was able to access this. All that aside, I'm excited to learn from all of your videos! :)
Hi, love this scarf! I'm sad I'm done knitting it, but wanted to ask you to make a mitten pattern for this! Would it be two layers? (It has holes from the lace pattern, of course! Would want to stay warm in winter!) Also, a note on the pattern, it helps to explain the sequence of 4 stitches and separator st or CDD plus the side border. (Once I figured that out, my counting improved by leaps and bounds!) Also, if you could tell us how to block it without losing the 3-D nature of the lace part (maybe just the sides), that would be fab! Thanks! (Also, love how you show the whole scarf at the end!)
And, if you can show us how to block it without losing the 3-D nature of the lace pattern (maybe just how to block the sides wide enough to keep the scarf from rolling up into a rod), that would be amazing! Would love to wear it with all it's 3-D glory!
Hello there! I want to make this scarf as a Christmas gift for a friend at work. My issue is that we live in Florida and I don't think she'll get much use if the scarf is made with worsted weight yarn. For this reason I'd like to use a fingering weight yarn and smaller needles instead. Do you think this will work? Recommendations?
Hi Marley, I’ve knitted my daughter a rainbow blanket and want to crochet raised words onto it. I wondered if you could help me, I am a complete beginner with crochet. Love your channel, you are such a good teacher 😍 x
If you had an Amazon and/or Micheal's, Joanne's affiliate links for needles & yarn linked in the description, I'd use them. It's easy to do it. I would do it with you if I could.
Hey Marly, this is such a beautiful scarf! I was wondering though, is it possible for you to do a video on the beautiful sparkle hat by Julia Hart? I just love it, but got confused on the directions!
HI there Dianna. I would love to do that hat pattern but I do not have the rights to film a tutorial video for it. I am sorry. Maybe reach out to the designer and she can make a video :-)
Hi Marly Bird: I just received an email about your scarf and I love it, however I can't find the downloadable pattern, nor the page that says yarnspirations
I swore off scarves last year. I haven't made not a one since HOWEVER I saw this and thought that I really wanted to knit it. Marley you are awesome. *side note* What's up with the background, or lack there of?

Hello knitters. I'm trying out this pattern, and I keep getting increases. After the first row of the body, I have 43 stitches. Is this right? or should it always be 39 stitches? I don't know any other knitters. Can I please get some help?

Marly - I don't know if you still monitor this page or not, but I'm hoping you see this! I have your Mittens and Gloves Galore class from Craftsy and really love your teaching style. My question about this pattern is, would a variegated yarn work well with it, or does it have to be solids? I was thinking of using just one skein of a variegated yarn - I think that pretty DCD would show up well, but am not sure. Thoughts? Comments?
Hi Marly - Help!! I have run into a problem on Row 1 of the Body. I used a cast-on of 78 to make a car-seat baby blanket, so I have double the repeats, but that shouldn't change anything, should it?? I've tinked and tried it twice, but if I K5 at the beginning of that row (meaning the first stitch after my 4 border garter stitches is also a K), then I do not have a stitch at the END of that row after the YO, just before those 4 border garter stitches. Can you help?? The problem SEEMS to be that every repeat - except the first one (because of the K5) - begins with a YO and ends with a YO, K1. None of your responses are more recent than one year ago, so is ANYone monitoring this tutorial?? :(
I cannot find where I replied to this anywhere but I know I typed up an answer. OH well, I am going to answer here and on UA-cam. The stitch repeat for this project is 10 +1. So if you just doubled the numbers it wouldn't work because you would have too many stitches. If you are using worsted weight yarn and getting the same gauge here is what I would do: keep the first 4 and the last 4 stitches in garter, then on the body I would use 91 sts....so cast on 99 stitches. Does that make sense?
Also, please make sure that you don't have one of the patterns that was not updated. Yarnspirations had the wrong version on their site for the longest time. if you follow along with me in the video, that will result in a perfect stitch pattern.
Hi Marly, in the eyelet section, Row 4 ... the instructions say Knit 4 *YO, P2tog*, Knit 4 In your video approx 5:19, you Knit 4, P1, then *YO, P2tog*, Knit 4. I'm confused ... should I follow the video instructions or the written instructions?
Yarnspirations somehow updated an old version of the pattern when they fixed something small recently. It should read. Knit 4, P1, *YO, p2tog; repeat from * to last 4, Knit 4. They have been notified of the error. Follow the video...the video is 100% correct.
You have to read the chart as it’s the RS. The symbols have different meaning depending if they are in RS or WS. The dash means knit on WS, purl on RS. Since row 16 is a WS row the dashes indicate you knit. Make sense? So 16-18 are knit rows.
I've tried 3 times but it's always going wrong. The problem to copy your knitting is I hold my yarn and needles differently from u 😂😂 so love this pattern but thinking about quitting it
Just a quick heads up. I was notified that there is a small errata in the pattern as of 4pm EST 11-12-19. Row 7 of the lace should read: 7th row: K5. *K3. yo. Sl2k. K1. p2sso. YO, K4. Rep from * to last 4 sts. K4.

yep, that little tiny YO...not sure what happened to it :-) LOL

Thank you. Now I know why I only had 36 stitches when I counted after row 8. I wish I was better at ripping stitches.

Question...first border..row 4...after k4 you say slip the marker...purl the first stitch...then start the yo’s and p2tog. Pattern mentions nothing about purling that first stitch??..goes right to repeat of yo, P2tog?
The video is correct. The pattern was mistakenly updated to a wrong version and the P1 is missing.
Yarnspirations has been notified
Marly Bird thank you...I noticed the repeat of the border at the end of the pattern had the p1 included.

Oh how I wish I could knit. Is there a similar crochet pattern?

The variegated yarn will not show the lace as well as the solid would.
I already have so much of the yarn and we were led to believe we could use our stock. I will have to bow out if this is now a requirement.
You can use any yarn you wish. This was made using a worsted weight yarn.
👍👍
Will it be necessary to block the scarf every time you wash it?
Yes
@@MarlyBird Thanks. This rules out giving this to certain people. lol
Hey marly, which mm size are Size nine knitting needles, thxx

Ok, your project is very cute, but what is the scarf that you are wearing in this video? Thanks!!
That is a free pattern on my website: marlybird.com/free-knitting-patterns/crazy-stripes-shawl/
it’s beautiful pattern but my scarf is curling, i didn’t decide it with garter stitch is that why?
Yes
Marly do you know how to convert knit patterns into crochet? And if so would you be willing to do a tutorial to share that knowledge 😁
some I can but it is a little more time consuming than one might think.
I imagine it probably is very time consuming 😁
What are the needles you are using?
Signature needlearts.
On the first border, row 4 you added a purl after your k4. Pattern just says k4, “yo. P2tog. Please advise.
Yarnspirations updated and outdated pattern last week and that stitch is missing. They will be updating it this week. The video is correct.
@@MarlyBird thanks!

yes, if you are comfortable with that length.

When are you going to introduce the pattern for the shawl you’re wearing?

In the thumbnail, what is the colour of yarn is the medium shade of grey
sterling
Thanks I'm definately gonna be making this one 😊😍
Row 16-18 on pattern said to knit, but if you look at the diagram row 16 is purl, row 17 knit, row 18 purl. Which is correct?
You have to read the chart as it’s the RS. The symbols have different meaning depending if they are in RS or WS.
The dash means knit on WS, purl on RS. Since row 16 is a WS row the dashes indicate you knit. Make sense?
So 16-18 are knit rows.
Marly Bird I usually stay away from project that have hole in them. I am getting braver. Making scarf in all one color.
Pattern please!
Can someone help with frogging the mistake?
