This band hit it big at a time when I was going through an incredibly rough time in my life. Listening to this song and a few others from the time was one of the few things that brought peace. I can never forget these songs.
berlin always gets overlooked as solid early synth-pop. everyone seems to remember "take my breath away" but this track... this is a real gem of electronic music.
They toured NZ in 86 & I was there with my "Flock Of Seagulls" Mullet drooling over Terri (well I wish I was over her . . . .) ✌😄 But it was the Movie Top Gun that got me into Berlin & when I bought the "Love Life" Album I happen to come across their "Pleasure Victim" Album as well, man was I not disappointed with that Album but unbeknown to me was that they were kickin around in the mid to late 70's in the UK. Quite an Incredible Band that left their mark in the 80's!! Love you Terri 💗✌😄
John Crawford did an awesome job on this. I don't think a lot of people realize he was the genius behind this band. His melodic compositions and use of synthesizers was remarkable. Very UK/Yes/progressive rock. Kudos to him.
Yes he was the Reason why the band had the name Berlin due to his German Heritage also he was the Founding Member. There would No Berlin period without him. It's unfortunate that he doesn't get more Accolades and Recognition for it.
His German heritage must be why they sound very un-American and therefore a higher recommendation I can't think of. Their atmospheric and energising and alternately cold and warm synth-rock was always more part of the batch of brill artists that launched the New Wave movement (Kim Wilde, Duran Duran, OMD, Toyah, A Flock Of Seagulls, The Human League, Blancmange, and so on. Berlin owe nothing to the dreary, choke-inducing MOR/AOR sop that seeped over from the US, even in the 80s!
We touched there was temperature I'm not the same Now I'm passing through your door It's a pleasure game you're the object of of my smile I'm a life machine Sentimental sound on sound Time to switch the scene you're the passion in me You've broken down the system You're the vision I see A pleasure victim simple figures fill my mind Some I recognize Bodies always look the same Never see their eyes to the touch there's always you How can I erase your Flaming candles, whispered words Then your soft embrace

It's up to 18 now (sighs)... still.. in 4 years or so, only 18 dislikes... not bad.... would slam a certain music style for why they don't like THIS kind, or see the appeal.. but... likely was a down click then move on, in 5 seconds.... kids today and their attention spans, eh? (smirks)
The whole album of Pleasure Victim is great!
One of those great deep cuts you never hear on the radio although I did hear it a few weeks back on a local college radio station.
Extremely underrated, it has to be my fave from the EP...they were always at their best doing synthpop.

I'm not the same
Now I'm passing through your door
It's a pleasure game
you're the object of of my smile
I'm a life machine
Sentimental sound on sound
Time to switch the scene
you're the passion in me
You've broken down the system
You're the vision I see
A pleasure victim
simple figures fill my mind
Some I recognize
Bodies always look the same
Never see their eyes
to the touch there's always you
How can I erase your
Flaming candles, whispered words
Then your soft embrace
