Wow. Thank you Alex. The atmosphere is chaotic and so beautiful at this time of year, as it stock piles the energy it receives from the sun and then unburdens itself over us. Your presentation puts all the elements into place both with your dialogue and graphics. Very dramatic to see these systems develop and follow their progress. Great work from you and your colleagues at the Met Office. Thank you again. From Dublin.
I love that he doesn't even mention the south west (Cornwall, Devon, Somerset and Dorset), when talking about late Monday and Tuesdays weather, full on rain and wind. It's like we don't exist.
The jet stream isn't a fan of the uk then, speeding storms to us then stopping them over us, cheers jet stream, although i read a comment last night about the amount of extra energy stored in the warmer than average seas that we had , are these storms linked to the Extra water temp we saw mid summer?
Why are what used to be a depression is now called a STORM with a name wow ,windy with rain,Autumn.I have seen lots of autumn storms over the past 75 years it happens every yearbut somtimes like1963 a bit wetter then some snow ,that would be winter!!
Alex, that was a great analogy at 4:50, comparing storm Ciarán to a "washing machine". By the sounds of it you might be able hang out your dirty washing and get it washed and spun dry without using your washing machine. Although, those in the south of England may have to travel to the Netherlands to retrieve their clothes!
Very many thanks indeed Alex. This is going to be a heck of a storm and drench us for sure, especially with the rain which comes before, then by Ciarán, followed by the rain through to the weekend! With all the wind as well, I just hope folk keep an eye on the Met app, Twitter etc to be certain about what NOT to do to help protect themselves, it’s crucial not to do anything that isn’t really necessary! PLEASE BE VERY CAREFUL!! Thanks so very much Alex
🇬🇧 I find it odd that the area where i live rarely gets any bad weather! I live on the coast of Northumbria & about half a mile from the vicious & turbulent North Sea... yet... As the inland road from the sea travels a steep incline, then over the top & downhill into our village & other tiny towns which nestle within a steep sided valley. This seems to protect us from any adverse weather conditions! Ive literally watched snow blizzards sweep over the top of our valley, leaving us snow free! I could well believe, if i was of the tin foil hat brigade, that our Valley is covered by a huge dome. Every storm or hurricane by passes us. The recent Storm Babette completely overlooked us while a mere 40 miles up the coast to the Scottish borders, Babette reeked havoc! Ripped off rooftops, flooded towns & hurled cars like a Caber Tosser. Our wee valley? Ne'er a drop of rain & a gentle breeze ruffled our garden blooms I just think it's wierd.. I know our coastline is sheltered by towering cliffs & acute coves Protect us from the turbulent onslaught. The oddest thing is that my largeish village is the most water logged! Come the season for such creatures, theres hardly a safe place to walk because of the snails of every shape & size & colour that invade every surface. Its like trying to walk between egg shells. It only has to rain for an hour and the field at the back of my house has transformed into A large lake!! ( probably with giant Pike in its depths..😆) Its these kinds of weather anomolies that cause English people to be obsessed by it. We have STRANGE weather in our isles. I doubt we will experience Storm Ciaran any more than we witnessed Storm Babette. Does our little valley exist in another dimention? Hmmm 🤔 Peace 🇬🇧👧
Appreciate the weather warnings, pulling my travel and outdoors tasks into Tuesday and plan just a stay home Wed/Thurs. However I note this storm is entirely a computer model prediction so hope the models don't let you down and so undermine the benefits of warning. The few deaths we experience in UK seem to be from individuals who just ignored weather warnings so they need to be seen as real and not scaremongering to be ignored.
How bad is this storm ciaran gonna be is there any possibility of football matches being cancelled as a Liverpool fan looking forward to seeing us in action on Wednesday night stay safe everyone
@@EllieMaes-Grandad What? Don’t be a silly-billy @EllieMaes-Grandad. It’s Europe not England. Weather knows no national boundaries. Storms in this part of the world are named by Dutch, Irish, and British met offices in turn. It’s Ciarán pronounced Keir-awn. He pronounced it correctly when said the name of the storm towards the end. It’s subtle, but most languages carry accent marks that change pronunciation and/or meaning.
I suppose these storms will become the norm now in the UK , for years we’ve sent money to storm hit countries, feeling sorry for people flooded out of their homes , now it’s Britains turn . Thanks for the warning I’m in Cornwall I’d better try to batten down the hatches so to speak 🤞
I think it may depend where you are - as it often does - but the forecast for the 4th/5th November looks relatively reasonable at the moment. It's a week ahead, so rain not ruled out yet, but it would seem the rain and wind will mostly have barrelled on by and be gone by the time we get to bonfire night! 🤞 However, it looks like Halloween night will be rather unpleasant later in the evening - 🤞most the nippers will be able to trick or treat and get home to bed before the rain arrives.
"A big washing machine" - that's the term I often use in these types of conditions when barreling into the house after shopping or whatever "It's like being stuck in a washing machine" 😆
UA-cam frequently does an annoying thing of starting the video on my PC in low resolution, and often but not always improving the resolution a minute or so later. You can pause the video, use the Settings (⚙️) menu to change the Quality, then resume/restart. Frustrating but it is a YT thing not the Met Office's fault.

You know you’re going to have a bad week when Ali Deaks has got his serious face on.

If you can, give a hand to your local wildlife in between fronts. They will struggl to forage and hunt in all this.

Great update met office well done for showing the jet stream
Ciarán is pronounced "Key-rawn", there's a fada over the second a (á)
Thank you v much for the info.
Heavy rains w/the wind warning.
Take care everyone.

What a messy week!
Thank you, Alex
Have a pleasant week enjoy.

You're the ones that want independence... :)
Monday in Cornwall was the best day of the week by far and then Tuesday was going to be wet what more would you like
Thanks for showing where the storm came from..
What was it's track before that?
Who's ready for a drought next year after all of this rain?
The is still a hose pipe ban still in place 😅
@@eddiejones.redvees what hosepipe ban?? There is none here.
That's because our privatised water companies are too busy dumping raw sewage in the sea rather than repairing and investing in infrastructure.

Its a gale of wind with rain added. Pretty much usual for this time of year.

Thank you Alex. I now know how my work schedule looks - sitting by the fire with a glass of wine!
Thanks Alex I have plans for Thursday annoyingly not sure if I’m going to be doing them at moment.
It would be helpful if you could animate your models with the storm's central pressure.
Thankyou. Prepare for the worst and hope for the best. Far too many dead Ash trees about.
Thanks, Alex and Met Office team.

Well explained forecast
Thank you Ali, I was very entertained by you. 😃 never thought that weather forecast was interesting
can we have numbers on those isobars please if there 10mb or 100 mb or 1000 mb?
950 I think I saw although it's still developing
Give the man an Oscar.
Thanks , looking like a rough few days.
I guess the big question for the Alex's and aiden is how ciarian will effect bonfire night
Shades of 10 years ago when it was just storms and deluges one after another.
I remember that year well. Two storms a week for about 4 months solid. I work outside and it was bloody miserable.

Yeah they might have to cancel incase klopp blames the wind again 😂
Damp and breezy like every autumn then
Just a very minor thing, its prounanced kiaraawn. the accent over the a (á), gives it an "a aw"sound :)
Yes, we're in England - let's have only English names please.

Similar to Storm Oratia on 30th October 2000
I want to hibernat or buy a boat. Shame Autumn is beautiful when it's sunny we had too much rain and wind.
Jet stream looking lively.
I heard about a tornado hitted the south west and now a storm coming yea I might a little wrong cause this storm it looking interesting and bad

Yes, go on - let's have another stupid name for a storm. Typical horrid November.
At 4.00 mins in it clearly says "fying debris" - nice spelling !!!
im not scared of storm Ciaran
Flying to America on Saturday or.. I hope I am.. this looks a little dicey.
Looks to me like a storm in a tea cup!
Not looking forward to Storm Ciaran. Thank you Alex 🫣🥶🌩🌬🌊
Storm Debi hitting Sunday then 😅😂. Welcome to the new normal folks.
Why does Alex always grin? Is he happy the weather is getting interesting 😂
That's their forte thats why. 😁
So many comments here about “weather” 👍
What theatre school did he come from
A big washing machine on Thirsty Thursday! 😂
Glad I’m not still going out to sea in ships!
at night on wednesday and thursday i will not sleeepp
Storm Ciarán Alerts
The presenter keeps changing the pronunciation of ciaran ! One minute he says ciaran at 11 seconds , then he changes it to ciaron!!!!!
Not🤔looking forwards to that but guess we will have to grin and bear it!
Is it global warming
It is certainly true that people love talking about weather in this country 😂😂😂
Video quality is poor, too blurry/grainy, has happened multiple times🤔🤔🤔
That sounds a problem with your connection. Set your resolution to 1080, it's fine then.
