Amazing manual video, I am so bad to go trough paper written manuals and impatient - found this video on spot to learn mine new Godox v1 😊 great job and thank you very much ☺️
Thank you very much 🙏🏽 You covered the features thoroughly and because I don’t hear any background music I could get a sense of how the flash will sound normally, for example when zooming in/ out. It felt pretty much like I went through the user manual of this flash 📸 Thanks again 👍🏽
@@4everIcegurl You can shoot in any mode if the flash is set to TTL. So shoot in the mode that works best for the scene. However, I personally tend to shoot in full manual when using flash. It gives me the most control when balancing ambient light and flash.
You’re the man Rob, that was thorough and excellent, thank you! BTW, I just bought the V1 and there is no designation for HS in the I-TTL mode. It seems like it’s only available in the Manual mode, is my flash defective? Also do you recommend returning the V1 for a pro version?
I need to know which camera you have. I'm guessing it's a Nikon. Make sure you have Auto-FP turned on in-camera. You don't need the pro version for HSS in I-TTL. It should work on the V1 non-pro. The Pro version basically has better heat management so it can fire more shots sequentially without overheating.
@@RobTrek You’re right it’s Nikon d850. It is set on Auto-FP, but I meant to say in off camera rx mode with the Godox X-proN remote it doesn’t fire faster than 1/250 sec. When it’s on camera hot shoe it fires HSS but not off camera. Also when experimenting with V1 in I-TTL mode, off camera and with camera turned off, there’s no HSS option to activate. -- Edit -- I just checked my GODOX ad300pro and it allows HSS in TTL mode (Doesn’t have I-TTL, not sure of the difference in function). Oh just remembered you use Olympus and Sony cameras and they have TTL not i -TTL, and since I’m not sure of the difference I don’t understand the significance. But when i was shooting film i think it was TTL and not iTTL.
I do not post comments specifically on youtube … however you changed my mind… Thank you for the detailed explanation for each of the settings … and making it easy for new purchase … ❤much love and way to many wishes 🎉
This video is really helpful in explaining all the different features of Godox v1. However, I mount it to my Nikon Zfc, and tried to fire some shots, it doesn’t fire. Any idea why? Also I check my Nikon Zfc settings, the flash control/mode is greyed out.
Edit: TTL is now working for me. I removed the flash and put it back on and that got TTL mode to work properly. I'm not sure what the issue was before! Very helpful video! But how do I make TTL mode select the flash power to get the right exposure? In TTL mode, my flash is just going off at 1/256 power. If I start with an aperture and shutter speed that is exposing well in TTL mode and stop down the aperture and raise the shutter speed, the flash continues to go off only at 1/256 power and the image just gets darker and darker as I raise the aperture and shutter speed because the flash is not compensating for it.
Excellent video, I have just got the Pixapro Gio1N and the settings are almost identical. The user manual is do great and printed very small so this video was perfect. Many thanks for saving me a lot of time.
First off, excellent video. I've subscribed. I'm having trouble getting my Nikon Z9 to work with the flash. I noticed as you were going through that your flash had "TTL". My flash is showing i-TTL. When i-TTL is showing I have TCM available, but not the sync option. What's the difference? Thanks in advance.
Hi. So sorry for the late reply. I don't have a Z9, but on my Df, to activate sync, I need to make sure the flash sync speed is set to "Auto/FP" in my camera. The sync options should now show.
Hi! Your video was better than the last two I watched so thank you! Have you done a tutorial to sync the Godox V1 to the xpro trigger? I’ve also watched other videos that I’m probably not understanding 🙈
Not yet! However, you can watch this video where I do go into some detail of using the trigger with off-camera flashes. ua-cam.com/video/T4_vOu2d3AA/v-deo.html
Really liked your video much better than others I seen but some things you really went a little fast on. Especially for a first time user trying to set up their flash for the first time.😊
You should be able to dial in by clicking the zoom button and then turning the wheel. The exception would be if batteries are low, then AU is disabled.
thank you for the info but I might be missing something, I have the the nikon version, when I switch mine on and in i-ttl mode there is no sync button, this only appears when I go to M (manual mode) how do I get it for I-ttl mode?? thanks
Unfortunately, I don't have the Nikon version to test. My best guess would be to check your camera menu and ensure Auto ISO is turned on and your Flash sync speed is set to 1/250 (Auto FP).
Hi Rob A useful, comprehensive video. ❤ If I may go off topic, did you ever get to the bottom of why focus stacking with flash wasn’t working with the OM-1? I’ve got that problem using a Godox V860iiio off camera with an X2T. Apologies if you’ve already posted a solution that I’ve missed. Regards Keith
Thanks. Unfortunately, I haven't figured anything out yet. I don't know if it's the OM-1 or the Godox Trigger. Flashes seem to work on-camera as a stand alone unit. However, if I use the on-camera flash to trigger an off camera flash, I run into the same issue. I do have a dumb (single pin) radio trigger and receiver that works. I just have to set the power manually. amzn.to/3CHJ8XS Another option might be to try using a pc sync cable from the camera to the trigger.
Hi Rob Unfortunately the only sync cord I have doesn’t have a 2.5mm plug so that experiment is on hold. So I tried using a setup with the subject flash, a V860ii, set to manual with optical trigger S1 and a V860iiio on camera set to 1/256 power pointed to the ceiling. Focus stacking then worked perfectly. As with your use of a generic flash this isn’t an ideal setup as the main flash can’t be adjusted from the camera, and there’s a danger that some of the trigger flash may fall on the subject if not aimed away correctly, but it is workable.
hi may i ask if you know how to turn off the preflash in my godox v1 pro while in fill flash mode? there is no preflash in rear sync tho. i am trying to take a shutter drag photo in fill flash mode and it keeps on firing preflashes thanks
Rob, this is a question about this or any godox flaash really. When the flash is in slave mode, you can still adjust the flash type (manual/ttl) and the power on this or really any flash like the ad200 etc on the flash units itself manual. Now what confuses me, on your trigger when you turn a channel on, you set the mode/power on the trigger which is what the flash uses. So what is the point of even being able to set this on the flash when in slave mode? Is there a way to make the trigger (say on any of the godox x triggers) "dumb" so that it tells the flash to fire, but respects what the user has dialed in on the flash physically rather than use what is set on the trigger? I imagine there must be a way to do this, for example, the triggers I have seem to go only to 1/128 but pretty the flashes like the ad200, v1 can go to 1/256, so it seems like on the ad200 for example, the only way this lowest power setting is useable is to remotely trigger the flash but not have the trigger override the manual set settings on the flash itself.
It depends on the mode you're in. In TTL mode, you adjust exposure compensation. In Manual mode, you adjust the power setting. Either way, you click on the left side of the control dial where the +/- symbol is and then rotate the wheel.

Hello. I have just bought a godox v1 to use with my OM-1. If i take a single image it is fine, but when I use it with focus stacking (in-camera), the images are only half there. The top half is black. Do you know why this is please?
hello Rob, do i need to change WB setting on my camera to Flash or just let it auto? im still confused becuse it became yellow on pictur. im using A6400 and V1
I'm not familiar with the a6400 specifically. However, most cameras do have settings for flash that need to be set in a different menu. First, I would try setting the WB to a fixed 5500k and compare that with a fixed 10,000k. If the WB is drastically different, then that's all you need to do. If the WB is the same, then there is a separate menu item for flash WB that you will need to find. Let me know if that makes sense.
