Fantastic. Not only is he solving the problem...he's giving you the STRATEGY you can use again and again.

I was wondering if you can talk about solving combustion thermochemistry problems on aleks

for me it doesnt say to round to 2 sig figs and when I solve it myself it should be like 6 sig figs but the answer is 2 sig fig

where did you get 4.184 from?

It's the specific heat constant for water

i do not get the way to determine the sign of (q) why is negative for the metal. i like your videos but sometimes you do not explain, you just solve problem.

One of them has to be negative or the numbers don't work out, it doesn't really matter which one you choose to be negative just keep it consistent. And then in the end figure out which energy is exothermic and endothermic using some basic logic (hot metal loses energy so it is going to be negative in the end)

why is it 2 sig figs

beth knox the answer is only 2 sig figs because the equation asked for two only

How the heck did you get 0.548 J/gC?!?!?!? I literally tried plugging it in my calculator and and no matter what I can't get 0.548! I hate it when people explain step by step until the very end....

At that stage I'm just solving the equation for (s). If you take the equation and divide both sides by [(58.8)*(-72.7)] you isolate (s) on the right hand side and (-2343.04)/[(58.8)*(-72.7)] = 0.548

@@TonyStJohn Yeah idk what kind of calculator you have but that does not equal to 0.548. I plugged it in about 20 times and it's about 168.7.

@@luqmanbinasad4880 Multiply 58.8 x -72.7, then do -2343.04 divided by what you got from multiplying the first two numbers.
