Loved your face when Rob hit that first high note. I’ve been listening to this since I was 12 in 1977. It’s actually called Dreamer,, Dreamer Deceiver. Dreamer being the first mellow part and Dreamer Drceiver when they start rocking out. Good vid guy. 👍
The lower end of his range is still beautiful, he is now 70 and packed in drink and drugs about 30 years ago! He sang this way without any vocal tuition and has been doing so for the last 50 years. He is still a power house, yes his voice has changed but obviously lung capacity changes between the ages of 30 and 70!
@trugvej Gull has finally agreed to release the rights to those first 2 albums and remastering of both is in the pipeline and a full-on 50th Anniversary edition of Rock'n'Rolla. I know I'll be getting a remastered Sad Wings on vinyl when they hit later this year.
This (the studio version) is Judas Priest’s best song for me. No other band has been able to replicate this version of Priest in innovation, composition, imagination, maturity, and vocal performance. It’s a super treasured version of music where psychedelic poetry briefly flirted with modern metal.
No ... he continues to produce this style of song to this day. His voice became thicker and lower as time went by but you can catch another sim on "Beyond The Realms of Death"
Also available on UA-cam is their 1978 Tokyo performance of Beyond the Realms of Death. It's from 1977 or 1978 and it sounds so good you can't quite believe it's live but it is. Rob Bowie's early 70d look. His voice is just ungodly beautiful there and the guitar solos are equally amazing.
They were ordered by OGWT to try to "tame it down". Not allowed to go as heavy as the song really required, decreased gain on the amps, OGWT even forced Glen to hang a piece of carpet over the front of his speaker cab. And yet this version STILL f--king slaps SO DAMN HARD!
Priest has been my favorite band for over 40 yrs. Rob is amazing. The early years to today dude is a legend. He was born to sing and entertain so many over the years. Metal legend. In the early years Priest was finding their sound. When Disco and punk was new fads Priest was developing a metal sound that defined them. Priest rules!
Waiting for you to tackle Diamanda Galas, the most intense and unique vocalist of the last 40 years. She's in her mid 60s now but just seems to be getting more powerful.
Dude I don’t care about your science of this song. I just absolutely love it. I appreciate you. But dammit I’m gonna go find this gem online. And thank you for bringing this song back. Haven’t heard it in decades 🤘🏻🤘🏻💯🔥
My favorite JP track of all time. Back in 73-74 was I was starting high school I was fortunate enough to have had a friend who turned me onto the priest. That high register he hits always seemed to me to sound sort of demonic, or my sense of what demons might sound like. Which I thought was perfect for a band calling themselves Judas Priest and looking satanic. So I guess in my version of hell they'd all be speaking in E5. I'm still learning something new every day. :-)
Thanks for the really great breakdown. Have you reviewed any Queensryche? Take Hold of the Flame live would be a great place to start, if you haven't yet.
How the hippies were, or thought that the things they were doing affected things around them (Dreamer Deceiver), but to find out that nothing has changed, and everything they did was for naught. (Deceiver)
Listen to the original version then tell me something else I already know. I also usually sing high harmonies to Rob's vocal parts. I don't call it screaming to me I've always been able to sing like Rob but more like his earlier voice.. 😊
Your timestamp 21:23 right at the last of Rob's finale, at least one guitar and maybe bass played a mistake that detracts from his vocals. Compared to the studio version, that part in this version triggers me.
This is what i like about this. The fact that the playing and singing are almost a perfect match. I absolutely hate bands that have great singer and players. But they sound like there doing a different songs.
This version is pretty great
But MAN, his cadence on the studio version is ABSOLUTELY unparalleled....
I like this version better than the studio version, better guitar solo by Glenn (than the studio version) imo

I agree with you 100%. I also didn't care for the douchy comment he made about Robert Halford's voice as it is now. he is still a POWERHOUSE!
One of the greatest JP album Sad Wings of Destiny.
my fav of theirs
Love the album bro.

You should check their RUN OF THE MILL song (no live version unfortunatelly) from their very first album, Rocka Rolla.
This was their first TV appearance, and apparently they were scared shitless.
Wow, i did not know that
@@Beevaldi Yeah, Rob mentions that in his book "Confess."
Thank you for that! Rob is throughly a Voice artist God
This is the metal God.. none will ever match his vocals
Queensryche
you will say WHAT when you hear the studio version at that same point in the song

I was at a Judas Priest gig yesterday and Rob is still amazing, simply fantastic
First saw them in 74 & helped them unload the van. They were supporting Budgie & blew them off stage.

Take time to hear this whole album. It's my favorite of all JP albums

He is consistently amazing
Tenor and Alto
This album is one of the best ever
master piece
You have got to do Run of the Mill by Priest..
Check out the studio version of Dreamer Deceiver : Deceiver....
I love your content man, keep it up!

This version is one tenth the studio version is, probably less.

unfortunately the results we live in are because of the changes they affected despite their intentions
Sinner Live Vengeance '82 next!!!
He's been completely sober since the late 90's. So he hasn't been drinkin and druggin for 50 years. Ya'll really need to do better research 🤘
Halford, the METAL GOD NEVER HAD A LESSON IN HIS LIFE...
what influence?do you know when they started?
"You have to be warmed up " .
Halford doesnt
Like Dio .
I believe it was the first song they played , then Rocka rolla on this appearance
Dosen't mean it shouldn't be done

Funny how you mentioned how he looked like a skinny hippie boy, because that's in fact, what the song is referencing.
Halford was trained opera singer, add drugs n a metal band n u get the greatest metal singer ever
Druggs have nothing to do with talent
He wasn't trained in opera. No evidence apart from people saying it in social media comments. Rob himself refutes it

you should listen to Dio, to me hes one of the best singers in rock
Skinny hippie dude can sing...haha. This was before he really discovered his voice.
you pulled the plug too soon on robs voice.right this minute he is still incredible live.
Can you react to JUDAS PRIEST Hell Bent For Leather live fuel for life tour
You're funny. ...Thinking you can compartmentalize Robs uniqueness.

Literally no band has that...I could agree that some bands are great with a mediocre singer and vice versa.
huh? .. can you give us an example?
