In 2023, on November 19th, I was lucky enough to win a lottery and attend Miyako’s first piano recital. I went to the matinee performance, and she was absolutely stunning in her red dress. The recital lasted for about 1 hour and 15 minutes, with her giving talks between performances. Since the stories she shared were so interesting, I’d like to share them with you. I have notes I wrote right after the recital, so here’s a summary: (1) First, a joke. She kicked off the recital with a high-speed classical arrangement of DragonForce’s 'Through the Fire and Flames.' After finishing, she joked, 'I bet this Steinway never imagined it’d be playing DragonForce (LOL),' which made the audience laugh. She’s from Osaka, Japan, and since people from Osaka have a great sense of humor, despite her elegant appearance, she just can’t help but crack a joke now and then. (2) A story from her childhood. She started learning classical piano at a Yamaha music school when she was three. Once she became good enough, part of the lesson involved playing the first eight bars as written, and then improvising and varying the rest. She really enjoyed this, and as a child, she was always rearranging pieces to make them her own. (3) A story from high school. She loved the piano so much that she attended a high school with a piano program. However, when she got there, many of her classmates said things like, 'I’ve been studying with a famous professor since I was little.' When she told them, 'I learned piano at Yamaha,' their reaction was more like, 'Oh... Yamaha, huh?' She didn’t think much of it at the time, but now looking back, she feels, 'They were totally looking down on me!' (The audience laughed here.) (4) Attending a regular university. Those classmates who studied with 'famous professors' were really skilled pianists in her eyes, so she thought, 'Yeah, classical music isn’t going to work out for me.' She decided to change course and attended a regular university, where she began teaching herself guitar. While continuing with piano, that’s when 'Miyako the guitarist' was born. Her piano friends were like, 'What are you even doing?' (Another big laugh from the audience.) (5) Returning to the piano. Having used her classical training and experience to compose and arrange pieces inspired by classical music, she recently felt like she’d been spending the 'savings' from that training. She decided to face the piano again and work on leveling up her skills, and she’s even taking lessons now. (6) Final remarks and my thoughts at the time. In her closing remarks, she said, 'If I have the chance again, I’d love to show you an improved version of myself, so please look forward to it.' The audience gave her a big round of applause. Hearing her talk, I thought, 'She really is as hardworking and competitive as I’ve heard.' That’s the summary of the notes I wrote last year. I hope they’re helpful to everyone. I’m really looking forward to hearing what stories she shares at this year’s recital in 2024.
Thanks for writing this summary, appreciate your time and effort. Glad you were able to attend and witness this side of Miyako firsthand. She is brilliant at this.
@@timgt5 You're very welcome! At this year’s recital, she shared some interesting stories between performances. In Japan, recording or filming during events is prohibited, so I quickly took notes afterward to remember it all, though it’ll take some time to pull everything together. I plan to share it in a comment section somewhere soon.
Her Beautiful Piano skills really transition across to not only to her amazing guitar Skills but her impressive composing and music arranging .. songwriting that really does showcase just how Golden she really is 👌👌
😅🤣🤣 Her facial expression is her throwing down the gauntlet. She is hinting,: "forget yesterday, await for what i am about to design and deliver to tear your ears and melt your faces and drive you to your knees begging me for more to satiate your endless hunger!" Damn, this composer extraordinaire, currently the most exciting and intriguing music magic on the planet.
A Steinway, truly the appropriate instrument for the musical savant to work her magic on. Ice Queen,....yeah right there is more emotion coming out of that keyboard than 10 stage musicians jumping around!!! Her energy flows perfectly through anything she is doing on those keys. Anyone going to those recitals, you have my total envy. A unique experience and a rare gift to be enjoyed!!!!!
wonderful clip, such dexterity both on the keyboard and the fretboard , saw here in L.A. a few weeks ago, an amazing live show .thanks for posting Kari
Fierce competition at the top of this game. Go watch a few Yuja Wang performances. It's not a contest for me, if you are great, you are great. It's not a sporting event. I enjoy watching Miyako play. ( To be fair, I don't see Yuja playing guitar in a metal band! ) 😉
I agree. I have watched Yuja since she was a teenager. She can play 26 concertos. When you consider a concerto averages about 125 pages of music...that totals over 3,200 pages all committed to memory. It takes a genius to accomplish that. It is interesting that Miyako and Yuja ages are only one year apart.
The melody in the beginning of Moszkowski's piece, I hear John Williams' Indiana Jones and the Lost Ark, the music where after the Germans and the French guy opened the Ark, and as things start to happen. Does anyone else hear that? Wonder if John Williams got the inspiration from Moszkowski? Here's the movie clip: ua-cam.com/video/5z43FTxB30A/v-deo.htmlsi=Ei1xk3f3l1VUubTm&t=123

Besides her talents, that ARE amazing, She is Gorgeous.
Miyako can totally shred on guitar but she has stated that she is a pianist first and it shows on the performance here.
no matter how familiar you are with her talent - she still blows your mind every time!!!!
Eso yo le se llevo o sus años en conocimiento de ellos.. Saludos a ti
@@jaimeherba6438 greetings right back!
The maestro at work on a beautiful Steinway. I wish they'd provide a LIVE stream for her recital on 20 Oct., I'd be more than happy to pay for it.
The Steinway is super nice. Miyako deserves to play on the best. If they release a Blu-ray for her piano show, I will buy it!
@@TheCyberMantis Yep, a LIVE blu-ray/DVD would also be ideal.
This woman has so much talent. Great to see her exercising it and sharing with us!

Hard to believe you said in an interview...I stopped pursuing a career as a concert pianist because I wasn't good enough.

@@TheCyberMantis Haha so true Mantis. I agree though, Yuja is beyond reality talent.
I am still wondering just how good the 6 ranked higher than her in the audition she was part of.

🤩✨✨🏆
0:35 Did she just do the tapping on piano?

Hope her guitar playing catches up with her piano playing.
In Miyako's DNA there is a chromosome carrying the music gene...🧬🎶🎹🎸
Lovebites playing Deep Purple Child in Time would be a huge moment. Miyako on synthetizer, Asami at the level of Ian Gillian etc. Just in case.
