Honestly one of the best stand-up show I've ever seen, incredible how the full 4 hours are independently funny but also interwoven and connected. Genius creation by James Acaster, hope him and other comedians create more like this.
Christ he's humble. As an American fan of British panel shows, and subsequently British comedians, I'm so glad to see his success grow here - and I hope he's properly delighted with himself. He deserves all the recognition he's getting as of late, and more.
if you want to hear more of him, without his persona, then watch his scrapes. there's a channel dedicated to them: ua-cam.com/channels/Rga7ZmyStFHozmkLtul5Nw.htmlvideos.
caron thanks for the link. I've actually been listening to a few of those from Josh W's show. But this is more the fact that I'm actually watching (not just listening to) him be normal here!
He often openly talks about how his mental state effects his confidence and is really helping to normalize introverted quirks. Love him more for clocking the whys
James Acaster is a top comedian as far as I'm concerned. He has a terrific on stage persona, new ways of segueing into new topics and just seems very likeable. He's truly great in his profession and I wish him great success.
I am a huge fan of stand up comedy. James Acaster on Netflix is the best surprise I have seen in a long time. His show was great. Highly recommend checking it out!
cokerainbows His Stand-up certainly isn’t for everyone but he appeals to mild-mannered middle classes as he doesn’t need to joke about shit, vomit or sex to be funny. Also a lovely human being.
@@ariagrace8117 It's not that big a stretch! I've watched stand up comedy for 60 yrs, avid about it, go to lots of live shows at comedy clubs. James could easily be considered one of the best, certainly a unique perspective and delivery, surreal at times in a way I don't see other stand up doing that. I can't name two other comics I'd rather see live, maybe two equally, like Maria Bamford or Seinfeld.
@@tenn4fab4 Hey there lol my comment was 5 years ago. I'm glad you adore James that much, I absolutely adore his comedy too! I'll be honest I refuted your statement 5 years ago but I don't actually care enough to disagree that much 😭😭😭😭 people have different tastes when it comes to art and entertainment, and your statement "there is no close second" is true to you. It doesn't matter how true it is to me. I'm really glad you enjoy his work, his comedy has helped me through tough and depressing times. He has astounding wit and empathy and tenderness in his comedy that permeates in a very sweet and goofy way. Take care and I hope you continue to be his fan, because I am too
Gosh it's so weird to see him talk normally, without his comedy persona, he seems lovely! He's hilarious- I've seen all of his specials and they're absolutely genius. He deserves so much admiration and praise. Thanks for the all the laughs James
Yeah I was beyond excited to get that notification mate. No worries. I still go back and watch the whole of Repertoire every couple of months because it's just so good.
I always enjoyed his appearances on panel shows, but wasn't really familiar with his repertoire (haha). Have just watched all four specials, and was really impressed. Really clever stuff, and very funny.
Meant to watch one of the shows to take a break from writing a rather pressing paper and ended up watching all four... worth it. Hope he does a show in Toronto someday!
As an American I would like to say that I saw the trailer and decided to watch all four shows at once because, it was three in the morning, I was really sad and, the comedy seemed like my kind of comedy. I do not regret watching!
Sorry to hear that he has bad days like the rest of us. Cheer up! You're great! :) I hope he has a long and happy career. He works at Pret a Manger right? lol. "Not all of the bananas are free."
He’s brilliant and funny…and also seems like a nice person. Of course, I also spend a lot of time thinking about what I’d choose for my dream menu on ‘Off Menu’
Enjoyed all 4 shows very much. From the US and all the while being French so yes Netflix shrinks distances and expands access to things I would have never come across otherwise.
I've watched about ten times! Highlight of my Fringe a couple of years ago was seeing James at the Pleasance. I'm Edinburgh born and bred and some years the FestivL just annoys me. I love his surreal take on ordinary things. Open a banana shop in Edinburgh James. 👍🙋
oh yeah, Watch his Netflix special, " Repertoire ". It's 4 shows, almost an hour long each and they are sooo good! Kettering Town FC! :))))))))))))))))
After seeing Cold Lasagna Hate Myself 1999...I had an idea to search for some clips of him being "out of character"...it defo adds sooooo much to his stories. Its strange to see him being out of his chaotic persona and being "normal" :)
I have a boyfriend who is a huge Polish bloke with tattoos from head to toes, bald head and constantly looks like he's peed off. He's a good man though lol, just to be clear, he might look like a hoodlum (🤣) but he's just a hard core punk. My point is, my taste in men is completely the opposite of Acaster and yet he is up there with Tom Hardy for sexiest celebs alive imho. He's cute, intelligent, articulate, compassionate, respectful, humble and obviously hilarious. An absolute hunk! 😍 (no disrespect to his girlfriend or my boyfriend haha ❤🤣❤)
I've just finished watching the first two episodes of this. The first episode was great. Had shades of comedians I really like. Then I watch episode 2... I'd be very surprised if Stewart Lee doesn't have something to say about it. Taking inspiration is one thing but ripping off another comedians style so blatantly just fucking bollocks. Interesting to see who he does on episode 3.
Did you really think that? I mean I see a few small similarities but I don't think there's any cause to say that there's been any copying. Important to note that James has been doing stand up for over 15 years now. Also, the Netflix shows, although being filmed in 2017, are older Edinburgh fringe shows of his and were therefore written and initially performed a good few years ago.
Er , no . I really like Stuart Lee , have done since the 90s and there's no Similarity or crossover apart from the laughs , so you might have a point .
Listening to him speak normally is so strange... what a humble man
Honestly one of the best stand-up show I've ever seen, incredible how the full 4 hours are independently funny but also interwoven and connected. Genius creation by James Acaster, hope him and other comedians create more like this.
spot on
Lot of work though. Most comedians would rather have 1 solid 2 hour show. I think this idea was unique and clever - much like Acaster himself.
Christ he's humble. As an American fan of British panel shows, and subsequently British comedians, I'm so glad to see his success grow here - and I hope he's properly delighted with himself. He deserves all the recognition he's getting as of late, and more.
we need a club.. and t shirts.
he's very humble and self-aware, clearly someone who's spent a lot of time thinking about his craft and his service to it, refreshing!
I’m from America and I watched all 4 hours. He is one of my favorite stand up comedians now.
This is the first time I've seen him talk normally without his weird comedy persona and I'm not sure how I feel.
Confusion is a normal reaction to James Acaster.
Haunter I find I get more respect for the craft of playing this comedic persona rather than him himself actually being that quirky

Haunter: he’s been brilliant on both Richard Herring’s and Stuart Goldsmith’s podcasts, and probably others’ as well.
He often openly talks about how his mental state effects his confidence and is really helping to normalize introverted quirks. Love him more for clocking the whys

Watched this with the Kettering town FC chant playing in the back of my head.

same but with “Vince Cable sitting on a table”
And a, and a, and a
K and an e and a t and a t E and an r and an i n g T and an o and a w n Kettering town fc! ...and an e and a t and a t E and an r and an i n g
A masterpiece of original very clever comedy. Watch all 4 together. Unique there is no one like him, totally new dimension in comedy
Totally agree
I honestly dont know why everyone likes him, i think he's absolutely shit. When i first saw him on the panel shows, i thought it was a piss take....
Totally agree, he's a complete and utter genius!
cokerainbows His Stand-up certainly isn’t for everyone but he appeals to mild-mannered middle classes as he doesn’t need to joke about shit, vomit or sex to be funny. Also a lovely human being.
Mate, I'm from Germany and a huge fan and I do hope that I get to see you live one day. Please continue to provide us with your great wit!
I've started saying "No more jobs" just before bed. Never a truer joke spoken! 😁
Hahah I know right!
I think maybe he was suggesting no more jobs as in bjs death of the love thing .
@@theholygoat8826 i don't think so
The Holy Goat Nah that’s not his sort of humour. He always keeps very clean show. Barely any swearing.
Genius. Best comedian in the world today, without a close second
wtf?
You must have not watched many comedians. Not saying James is bad, he is absolutely fantastic. But your statement is quite a stretch.

James, your comedy is absolutely fantastic! Been on a Netflix marathon.
Cheers from Germany.
His shows came onto my Netflix account and I binged all four. So well crafted and hilarious little bits! And I'm Canadian!
James, here from America and a huge fan. Love your comedy!
I’m from Russia, I’m about to watch the special for the third time in a week. I’m won over! James rocks
Gosh it's so weird to see him talk normally, without his comedy persona, he seems lovely! He's hilarious- I've seen all of his specials and they're absolutely genius. He deserves so much admiration and praise. Thanks for the all the laughs James
If he ever comes to Winnipeg I'll be there. With a cabbage

weird seeing him out of character, seems like a good lad to go for a pint with

Omg I watched him on Netflix and such a big fan now! Lots of love from USA
Love him so so so so so much ! Also guys should you listen to his podcasts “off menu” with Ed Gamble .
The best up-and-coming British comedian for ages.
Much love from America! Laughed my ass off all four hours. Easily one of my favorites now. Want to see him in SF next week if only for work aghhhh!!!!
I'd never heard of James before I saw the clip on Netflix and was hooked immediately, he's brilliantly funny.
Here from America. James is one of the most unique comics of today, and is definitely one of my favorites for material and personality.
Brilliant special(s).. in my opinion.
Oh man. We definitely watched it. Again and again and again and again....
Such a humble guy, and darn well hilarious too!
I really like this guy. I’ve seen him on panel shows and quiz shows. 8/10 cats and the like
I’m watching Repertoire for the umpteenth time.
Someone's cooking the books
lmao
This American watched it, and it was amazing.
This American loves James Acaster!!! He’s so funny!!

love this guy!
Yes James, we're DEFINATELY watching you in America...PLEASE come back!
Weird seeing him being... like... normal?
what a great guy
american here... i was hooked in the first minute and then binged all 4! and i rewatched them probably 5 times each as well. i can’t get enough
I watched all of 'em. From the states. I was howling the whole time.
“I don’t like myself” - man that’s sadly relatable, I hope he knows we love him
The fact that it was a 4-parter definitely got my attention. So when I stumbled upon it, I clicked. And life hasn't been the same since. :O

I will say that I absolutely binged the fuck out of his 4 things.
agh i want him to come to canada so badlyyyy
Bloody genius
Literally the only reason I've ever signed up for Netflix.
