This is pretty much a direct sequel to the TurboGrafx-16 reboot of Bomberman instead of the original NES game. Why they didn't do a version of Bomberman 2 for the TurboGrafx-16, I have no clue tbh.
@@shaitet Eh, it's a bit in-between the two. Stuff like the smaller level sizes, enemy types, different level themes and "Area #-#" format are taken from Bomberman TG-16, but the bonus stages, complete lack of bosses and minor things like the power-up block not being revealed after all enemies are defeated make the game's overall structure feel closer to Bomberman NES.
Bomberman II is an excellent early addition to the series, and is really about as good as you could possibly expect considering the limits of the NES hardware.
Was nice to see the end of this game. As a kid playing it with my friend, I don't think we ever got past 3-7 or 3-8. Didn't have enough time to kill everything/find the door unless we got stupid-lucky, but then we also didn't have previous power ups due to dying. XD After seeing it all, it pretty much seems like the Detonator/Remote Bombs are vital for finishing most of the levels, with the Wall Pass being exceptionally useful.
That's what I always disliked about the series, dying is too punishing. When the difficulty ramps up to the point that your chances of beating a level entirely depend on your powerups you can't afford to die even once anymore, the extra lives are practically worthless if one death essentially ends your game. It would be more balanced if the death penalty was merely a deduction of fire power, walking speed or bomb capacity, one grade at a time. But not only does dying once completely strip you of your best powerups it takes away a grade or two from almost every multi-tier power category so after a few deaths you're basically reduced to your original state which is impossible to recover from if you're in the second half of the game.

@@CodeKirby You never played Bomberman on an Atari system because one was never made, or completed. There is a Jaguar prototype supposedly of a Bomberman game, but it has never been released to the public.
It's kinda strange when Hudson makes Video games... the prequel had hardcore graphics but then their sequel games become more light and fluid... just like Adventure Island series.
Had to go the Famicom route with this game for the collection, prices for it are far fairer still. $17 for my FC copy, versus the $100+ the US version commands.
Here are my grades of Bomberman II for the NES: Graphics: A+ (this looks very good for 1992) Sound/Music: A+ (I could probably listen to the whole Bomberman II NES soundtrack all day and never get tired of it) Gameplay: A+ (In some stages, you could get 2 power-ups at a time, making the gameplay a bit faster-paced as a result) Extras: Finally! This bomberman game has a Battle Mode! Unfortunately, it has no A.I./CPU characters that you can battle with - but at least you can have 3 players on the screen at once. Replay Value: A+ (Play this game - even if you have to emulate it). (While I prefer either Super Bomberman 1, 2 or Bomberman 64 - partially because of their battle modes - I would still play Bomberman II). Overall: A+ (this gets high marks from me due to having improved graphics, sound and faster-paced gameplay)
The game follows the classic Bomberman formula and it's based directly on the 1990 Bomberman video game. Players control Bomberman, who is in a room full of blocks and enemies and must plant bombs to destroy the blocks and enemies. Several blocks contain power-ups (such as blast radius increasers or fuse shorteners), and one in each level contains a door, which takes Bomberman to the next level. Passwords are given after a game over, recording the level, number of bombs, and strength of bombs. These passwords can be entered when the game starts, allowing players to continue where they left off. New to the series are the multi-player modes. Vs Mode is a two-player mode, while Battle Mode is a three-player mode. The objective is to kill the opposing Bomberman by planting bombs. An NES Satellite or NES Four Score is required to play the three-player mode.
Hey guys i am trying to find version of this game which have the intro like this: a villan use some sort of dragon kidnap someone and ride it into the castle far way, bomberman and other person were standing and panicking but cant do nothing. I very aperciate if there is someone help me with that.

I have a Famicom converter and The Japanese version. Game is alright, but there are a few levels where you see the game over screen without being able to move. For those who want a converter; other than not being able to play 3 player, $20 for the game is not a bad deal compared to the $100+ NA version.
Really liked this one! By the way, since you're uploading all these Bomberman games, have you by any chance played Bomber King/Robowarrior, also by Hudson Soft? :) It's quite similar in concept, but a bit more involved I guess - and has a killer soundtrack too, from what I recall!
+Mariusz Bosy I'm a big fan of that game, but it never really felt like a Bomberman game to me even though it had the bomb thing going on. The soundtrack was killer, for sure!
It was quite difficult too... then again, a highly advanced robot in a distant future which runs on (poor quality) batteries? Really? Bomberman was a much better model than Bomber King apparently. :)
Mariusz Bosy Haha yeah I remember it giving me some trouble way back. I remember it got much easier once I bothered to read the manual. I'm pretty sure I recorded that one quite a long time ago. I'll have to find and upload it to go with the other Bomberman stuff!
looks fun to me and since I have an NES and only have three games for it, I might try to find a copy of Bomberman 2 for the NES because I have never played Bomberman.
Europeans did'nt get the Bomberman I, So when they got a deal of this sequel, they changed it to Dynablaster so the later games are Bomberman. By the way, An Doraemon game on PC Engine was changed on USA and Europe... Does this fair?
Real reason why it was named Dynablaster was because there was a bunch of bombings in the UK at the time so that's why the series wasn't initially named Bomberman until a little while after.
That's like ask why in Star Wars the good side is the light and the bad side is the dark side. It has nothing to do with racial stereotypes, more like the symbolism of good being the light, bad being the dark. IE a lot of horror films end when the sun shines and the darkness of the night finally stops.
