interesting... not at all watching this film did i think jenna ortega's character was going to be the final girl
she in fact was part of all the horror tropes that people usually go through... maxine was clearly leading especially with the
    lake sequence

We all kinda knew or had a feeling Maxine was the final girl. She was practically front and centre during X's marketing... Now, c'mon now. 😂

The greatest way to subvert a final girl trope is to end the movie with the “final boy”.

It's sad because in real life inexperience is what gets you killed.

Wrong, people with experience tends to be more confident and think everything is gonna be fine so they lower their guard;like party girls getting roofied cause they dont even watch their drinks anymore

What gets you killed in real life is not listening to experiences of other people. You can do all kinds of things that look dangerous to others. But if you learn from experiences of other people, you can avoid the actually dangerous stuff

I think making dumb decisions gets you killed. In this case, staying overnight in a strange old couples farm and making a porno is very obviously a dumb idea. You should always understand that you don't know what people are capable of. Always shrink your ego in a dangerous situation.

@@ArcherGreen It's a really nice film, it keeps you on your toes all the way throughout and subverts expectations quite well, the only part I felt like it lacked a bit was the ending sequence, other than that, really solid, would recommend.

Interesting. I think the reason why the final girl is typically depicted as super virtuous and in the eyes of traditional standards is because it feels more "well deserved". If the final girl is "less deserving", her survival might not be as satisfying and thus less interesting. People might even get bored likewise with the "pure tomboy with rational thinking".
I don't think the answer is to make them fall into vices and pleasures just to "stick it to grandpa" (most modern final girls are fully sexually liberated lmao), but to just allow the final girl to have flaws. You know, maybe make them bit stupid, but good hearted. Maybe make them struggle with addiction, but not rip other people down due to it. The answer isn't to make a character 3D just by flipping the coin to the other side.
And I do find it ridiculous to call the "final girl" trope conservative or non-progressive. The characters are typically smart, independent, adaptive, and even sexy. The insecure paranoia seems to come from this weird fear of "conservatives might find that woman ideal" which... Yes and no? Like, do not progressives find that kind of a woman an ideal?
And this whole conversation goes into the meme on some progressive thoughts where standards and ideals themselves are based on tradition, thus conservative thus oppressive thus le bad. You see this all the time everywhere of people actively just wanting to tear down any standards without responsibility or care.
Which is where I think these arguments stem from to begin with. This idea that "virtue" is oppressive somehow. "Restrictive" is the soft-language people use. Hell, even that "virginal" thing: What's wrong with being a virgin? Is it that bad that you don't want to have sex all the time with 300 different people in your 20s? Are you stupid? Why would you not have sex? How dare you be a virgin?!?!
I am joking here, but that's a good question, especially considering how more and more young people are having less sex and lose their virginities at older and older ages. So were in this weird place where progressives don't want to shame anyone, but they do shame virginity just because conservatives like it...
IN CONCLUSION: I think this observation pointed out in the video is a bunch of hot air mental gymnastics where you will see a duck when you actively try to look for ducks or how they relate to ducks.
