When I was a kid growing up in Montgomery, I won a radio contest for picking Mike Weir to win the Masters in 2003. The prize was an RTJ trail pass and a new pair of golf shoes. Needless to say, it was an unforgettable experience strolling down the first fairway at The Judge in new Footjoys with my dad.
I’m 46, brand new golfer. My first birdie was at Hounds Lake Country Club, Aiken, South Carolina. I’ve been playing for 6 weeks. Golf is all I can think about. It all started when I was gifted 2 tickets for the first day of tournament play at The Masters. I was absolutely blown away. I said to myself, I want to be a part of this. My 12 year old son and my beautiful wife all started together. Now we are starting to plan trips just to play golf. Golf is quite simply, magical.
The feeling when you get the first birdie is amazing, I started in June and hit my first birdie (sloppy one) on a par 5, I hit my first clean birdie just last week. Par 4, 200 yd 3i of the tee, 140 7i onto the green and a 6ft putt for my first birdie on a par 4.
Don’t have a picture or memory of my first birdie after almost 30 years of playing. However I have my sons first birdie on video when he was six. He will turn 11 in a few weeks. We play together all the time. We both witnessed each other’s first hole in one and we love watching your videos. Every time we play and get to a par 3, he says ace cam is live! Love the videos Erik!
Haven't been that way yet, but looks like fun. Northern Michigan is my pick for a golf adventure. Man, I had to really think when my first birdie was, and it is really sad for me to realize that I can't remember. I began golfing just over 35 years ago...and yeah don't remember the first one. Got to make sure we really celebrate my son's first birdie when that happens.
“I feel slightly ashamed, but also very proud.” Seems like a perfect response when someone asks about your children, or my inner feelings leaving the 18th green.
Started golf several years ago then moved to California and didn't touch a club at all, then picked it up again this year with Covid and moving back to the East Coast. Hit my first Birdie in July on my local course (Jonathan's Landing) with my Dad on a Par 3, Hole 13 - 140ish yards with a 7 iron, put it to 3 feet and knocked it in! Awesome video as usual btw, love what you guys do!
My first birdie was on a par 3 at The Links at Lang Farm, Vermont. I Have not been playing golf for too long, this show was one of the reasons I started this year! I will always remember it, Hole 9.
Born and raised in Alabama. Learned the game on and around RTJ. Played Grand National through my college years and play 5-10 rounds a year with my father on the trail these days. Will always be a special thing for me.
Utopia, Texas. I was about 14yrs old with the pops uncle and cousin. I bladed a sand wedge from about 20yds out that hit the pin, hit the ground, and back spun into the hole. Insane.
Life hack's, level 1000! Honestly, my first birdie was over 40 years ago, so I couldn't even guess when or where it happened. Thanks for highlighting the RTJ Golf Trail, as I need to put this on the list for my wife and I to play over the next few year. Roll Tide!!!
i live in St Louis MO ...for many years in the spring when golf fever hit us hard we would take 20-30 of my buddies and play a week on the trail...36 holes a day on a different course every day. The Judge at Capital hill was my favorite opening hole .No. 1 tee is a par 4 with 200 foot drop off the tee box with the Alabama river on the right and thick woods on the left. Awesome opening hole!!!!!
First birdie was my sophomore year of high school. Was competing against some of my high school team mates for the last spot on the varsity golf team. I ended up sticking a par 5 green about 8 feet from the hole. Drained the putt right in the heart :) Got the varsity spot too ❤️
My first birdie was in May 2009 on the 3rd hold at the Links at Gettysburg in Gettysburg, PA. What made it super special was that I was playing in my dad’s memorial golf tournament.
Won't ever forget it - 7th hole at ASU Karsten, par 3 probably about ~140yds, missed the green left into a grass pit of miseryy, chipped it up and in for the birdie and my first ever chip-in as well! Karsten is gone now but the memories will never fade!
After watching this video (and during) i was trying to remember MY first birdie. Ive been playing since 2006 and can't seem to recall my first as of now. I did have a certain sense of anxiety watching the video as you went through yours. Not a bad sense of anxiety but, it made me fire on all cylinders trying and recall my first. Either way good for you going back to the first. I'm sure it was filled with a mix bag of emotions seeings how you have had a vast myriad of holes & courses in your ten year tenor. Keep doing your jam EAL......everyone seems to enjoy it. 🤙
I don't remember my first birdie, but I learned how to play at Oxmoor Valley! I'm super appreciative of the opportunity to learn to play at such a nice public course.
When I heard one of my friends (Riley Keagle) was getting Erik out here I had to make sure I was there to meet him. Thank you Erik and the whole staff for coming back to RTJ! I hope y’all had as good of a time as I did getting to meet y’all at Capitol Hill! Glad we helped find your first birdie hole!
I was 11, visiting my snow bird grandparents down in Coco Beach, FL. My grandfather was a member at Baytree National at the time. Hole 12, about a 130 yard tee shot that I put within 6 feet and I sank the putt with my brand new Nike T100 that I got the day before, still have that putter and will pull it out every now and then if Im not rolling my gamer well. One of my fondest memoires of my grandfather is golfing with him every day that trip.
Thanks for an excellent video of our favorite pastime - Golf! My first Ace was on the island of Okinawa; second Ace was in New Delhi, India, and third (and last Ace) was here in Mobile, Alabama. Still visit Azalea City Golf Course every morning but have not played since last spring - at the age of 91 I find it difficult dealing with hot weather. Looking forward to this fall's cooler temperatures.
I could never forget the place of my first birdie. Columbus, Oh. Mentel Memorial GC. Hole #7 370yd Par4. Had a great recovery after a poor drive and chipped in for birdie.
Remember it like it was yesterday. Well actually because it was day before yesterday, Sunday. 34 deg, hole 9 at Meadowview, par 3. Seven iron hit and rolled within 2 feet. Birdie putt down. My friend thought I won the Masters... Same day same round, hole 15 par 4, birdie. Two in the same round. Now, to some that may be usual. For me, I started my golf career in June, of 2020. Great channel with great content.
Damn EAL has the real pro tips right at the end there. As someone who loves camping, but gets my plans ruined by the weather sometimes, that is a pretty good tip!
Thank you for visiting the central region of The Robert Trent Jones Golf Trail. RTJ Capitol Hill in Prattville is my home course but it sure is nice to know I'm a member at 11 sites, all 26 golf courses, and 468 holes of some of the best golf period. Along with the golf is a world-class staff that takes care of you, start to finish. Thanks to Eric for taking pictures with my son Cole in Prattville. It was a highlight of life experiences for him. Big shout out to Mike Beverly and Riley Keagle (and any others) for making things happen.
my first birdie was at my home course (and still to this day) Cardiff G&CC on the par 5 6th. i was played w my dad andi made about a 10 footer for the 4 and i still remember it vividly. every time play the hole the memory comes to mind
Culver Lake Golf Club (R.I.P) Frankford Township NJ Hole #3 Par 3 150 yards Summer of 2000. Tee shot to 15 feet and made a putt. I'll never forget it! Great episode.
1st Birdie, Hans Merensky, Phalaborwa, South Africa. A course you fortunately visited and took me back many years and 5 737 miles away (as the crow flies). Thank you for such awesome content Anders.
Quarantine really got me into golf, wish I had a chance to play part of this trail when I went to Hoover in June! Anyways, first birdie was at The Neuse Golf Club out in Clayton, NC. Par 5, Hole 8. Big drive, 5 wood just short, chipped close, got the putt to go down. Hidden gem of a golf course. Highly recommend it for anyone in the area.
Barbers Point Golf Course Ewa Beach, Hi. Par 5, beautiful drive to make the dog leg left, absolute horrible duff of a second, smokes a 5 wood to just in front of a green side bunker, smooth chip over bunker and dunk. I will never forget that hole ever.
I do remember my first birdie. It was at Dixie Red Hills in St. George, UT, on hole 7, a dogleg right. This is a course, and a hole that EAL just played on his road trip through Utah, the best 18 holes in Southern Utah! I was 12 years old, and back then you could play as many holes as you want for $7 because it was 110 degrees every day. It's a par 34 course, I shot 38...my best round at that time and my first birdie.
I do remember my first birdie, or at least there is a hole and an afternoon I regard as my first birdie. Crooked River Ranch #3, a par 4, i remember it as a 3w, 8i, 1 putt. I do revisit that course about once a month and absolutely regard it has one of Oregon's hidden gems.
17 years old, Brevofield, hole 4. I was only playing for about a month and it was as lucky as lucky gets but that feeling is always there every time I play that hole
My first birdie was this August at Grandview Golf Club in Pittsburgh. I just started in June. Was hole 13, a par 4. Had a lucky drive make it through the trees and I managed to get up and down for birdie. Sinking that putt felt absolutely triumphant. Next step: breaking 100!
First birdie on the par 5 1st hole at Sharpstown Golf Course in Houston, TX. I’ll never forget I started jumping up and down on the green as if it were a reflex.
My first birdie was at Rocky River Golf Club in Charlotte, NC. I got it in 2017, I chipped in on the 10th hole. Greatest feeling having holed out with a chip and getting my first birdie.
My first birdie was at a par 3 golf course in NC where they have llamas as caddies (no joke). I had many near birdies the whole summer, but I finally got it with a very long put from the fringe. Such as awesome feeling.
Haha, you never forget your first! 8th hole at Hilton Park Golf Club, flew my 2nd over the back of the green. Chipped in with a 56, pin & in! Was lucky as the green was sloped massivly away from me, would have been 30 foot past and off it!
I don't remember my first birdie. But I do remember my first Eagle! Belleview golf course. Hole 9, par 5. Miraculously holed a 25-30ft putt with my dad on the green as witness. Absolute scenes.
My first birdie was at Trysting Tree in Corvallis, Oregon. I don't remember that super clearly but I will always remember my first Eagle which was on the 18th hole of Sheep Ranch this past August!
Mine came in summer 2019, a couple months after I first started playing. Hole 3 at my local muni, 285 yd par 4, water right and driving range left. Shot a 10 on that hole once this past summer. Kept me humble for sure.
Mendakota country club, mn. 2002 3rd hole par 4 430 yards. First birdie at age 10… started a fever that only college hockey took me away from, only for 4 years. Got my first and only hole in one on 2nd hole two years later at 12.
I remember! Par 3 number 17 at bayou DeSiard cc summer of 2012. I worked there as a lifeguard right out of high school. It was my first summer playing golf and I hit it to two feet. I was so scared over that putt but luckily got it😂
Got my first birdie on the 14th Hole at Margalla Greens Golf Club in Islamabad. Chipped onto the temporary green on a drivable par 4 with my 8 Iron and without waiting to get the putter, whacked the ball towards the hole left handed with same club. It jumped, rolled, collided with the flag stick and dropped in!
First birdie were at the Club Campo del Mediterraneo, Spain, golf course where Sergio Garcia learn to play, 13th hole, par 5, July 2016. Such a good memory
My first birdie was also on a Robert Trent Jones Course. Par 4 2nd hole at Eisenhower Blue in Long Island, NY. Perfect drive, awful second shot that somehow landed 10 feet from the hole, then a perfectly paced left to right breaking putt for the bird.
Crazy to think this dude wasn’t able to afford a hotel room for one night. Look at where he is now... one of the best golf influencers in the world! All because of consistent hard work and a love for the game! EAL is a great success story.
I played Ross Bridge over fall break two years ago! I wasn’t familiar with the trail but my dad decided for us to play it. I want to go back and play them all sometime! Love the vids!👊🏼
First biride was earlier this year after a few years of play on the 11th at Balbirnie Park Golf Club, great little par 3. Hit an awful 7 iron about 20 yards left of the green and chipped in with a perfect 54-degree wedge. Playing with my dad, couldn't of been sweeter
I was 8 years old, I chipped in out of a bunker with an 8 iron my Grandpa cut down for me. I would tee off from between 100-125yds out on every hole, and play out from there. I chipped in and we celebrated with a Strawberry Crush soda. Very fond memory. :)
I don’t remember my first birdie but I remember the first birdie after a 13 year break from the game. My son decided he wanted to try out for his freshman golf team. He inspired me to get back into golf. The first course we played at together I got a birdie. At the time it meant more to me than it did to him as he was just learning the game. It was a moment that I’ll never forget. My only witness was my son. That’s all that matters.
Just started golfing this summer, still working on a birdie, but I’ve got a few pars
Same
Don’t give up! The birdies will come and so will a random ace if you don’t ever quit
Same here! I lipped out a putt last week on a Par 4 that would have been my first birdie. Still chasing it!
Same started 6 months ago got 32 birdies and 341 pars so far ;)
keep at it bud! gonna feel great when that first one drops

This series has a very "Anthony Bourdain: Parts Unknown" vibe and I really dig it. Keep on making great content
Very well said

Of course i do! Moon Golf Club, PA, Hole 7, Par 3, 8 Iron, put it to ten feet and made the downhill putt!
Dyker Park Golf Course, Brooklyn NY - 2nd hole, Par 3, 195 yards; skulled a chip off a greenside mound, hit the flag and dropped.

This is way more than golf. This is truly finding a passion and molding life to it.
My absolute favorite episode yet!!!!!! I love hearing the excitement in peoples voices that i have for this great game.
25 years ago at the Phil Harris GC. Thanks so much for the great videos Lang. Keep the spirit alive my friend. Cheers!
First birdie, have no clue. But I’ll remember my first Eagle..... When it actually happens.

“I feel slightly ashamed, but also very proud.” Seems like a perfect response when someone asks about your children, or my inner feelings leaving the 18th green.

Mendakota country club, mn. 2002 3rd hole par 4 430 yards. First birdie at age 10… started a fever that only college hockey took me away from, only for 4 years. Got my first and only hole in one on 2nd hole two years later at 12.
Quality is insane, as always
Just started golfing the last 5 months or so. First birdie was at Overton park, Memphis!
I’m still waiting for my first birdie and I’m sure I’ll never forget it.
Cheyenne Shadows on Fort Carson, Colorado Springs, Colorado hole 13 par four. Drained a 20 footer. Magical.
