brilliant video, only seeded mine 3 days ago and sprouting all around my half whiskey barrel with a mallow tree in the the centre, went with alyssum magic circle, many thanks
Thank you for this simple and helpful little video. I want to line all of my gardens with a border of white alyssum next spring, like I did in one of my back gardens. As well, I think my great nephews will enjoy this indoor project with me next spring! It will be a chance to watch the process of growing plants from seeds. It will be rewarding when they get to take a pot of these little gems home! As well, it will be a change from watching videos on their electronic devices lol Have a great day!😊
Daggone, I LOVE your videos and just subscribed! I sorta forgot about starting my Alyssum so this popping up on my feed came at just the right time! So refreshing how you just stay on point and are so informative indeed. I was desperately in need of a channel such as this after just wanting to set my hair on fire after watching sooooo many that are -- look at me-look at me-look at meeeeeee!🤣
My goodness. Te separation is 10 cm among them! I thought they would be separate always. But they fill the room as they grow! Wow! So we must not plant them tightly when being seedlings! Greetings from Mexico!
So glad it was helpful. You can start seeds 3-4 weeks before last frost, or in spring. For cold winters, start seeds May-June and for mild winters Feb-June. Happy growing and thank you so much for your comment!
Pretty much yes. If you see seedlings start to show slowing the growth, either you can give them a light dose of water soluble fertilizer (such as fish fertilizer), or you can transplant them sooner to their final place. You can start watering by keeping the surface moist at the beginning, and as they grow try water deeper. More importantly, don't let soil dry completely. Hope this helps and thank you so much for your comment!
@@TowardGarden great advice thank you! i will write this down. i noticed you didn’t use wet soil initially when sowing the seeds and placed them in dry soil and then gave them water after covering them up. i accidentally soaked my soil first and then planted them in, lightly covered them, and didn’t add any further water, would that be an ok way to start?
@@TowardGarden Sounds good! Sadly my alyssum sprouts my all became leggy within just a few hours after germinating and now they’re falling over. I will try planting new alyssum seeds today. Do you use grow lights? Or do you just put them directly outdoors?
So do you start the seeds in your house? My window sills aren't deep enough I don't think. Could this work on the kitchen counters? I don't have a lot of space. Thanks!
I usually don't keep my seedings indoor. You may start seeds indoors but it is better to move them outside as soon as they sprout- If the light is not sufficient seedlings will grow leggy and not to their best. If you plan to plant them outside in few weeks , then I suggest to keep them outside and only bring them inside at nights if the temperature is too cold. Otherwise they should be ok. happy growing and thank you for visiting!
Outside yes, but for sure protected from harsh elements. I will have them under shade cloth from hot midday sun, or if rainy/windy, just move them somewhere safe. Not sure if you have access to cold frames, but they are great to protect seedlings. The easiest option is to use clear storage bins with clear lids(like 15 qt. box) Add some holes for air circulation and you can put seedlings inside to be safe from elements. Hope this helps@@tiffanycox6212
I just used maybe half of the seeds in the packet. Alyssum is a covering plant and each seedling spreads to few inches across. Thank you for your comment!
I did everything you did except I planted my seeds into two pots. Now mine aren’t growing past the size you showed @1:35 (30 days) and it’s been longer than that. One pot all but one of the seedlings literally just disappeared. I’m starting to see it happening to the other plant now too. What do I do? What have I done incorrectly? Thank you
It is really hard to tell without seeing them. Do you notice any pest activity? Did you start in seed mix, or just potting soil? My guess is that it could be a soil-borne fungal disease effecting the roots, or damping off. I would start over in a clean seed starting mix without any compost or garden soil. Also do not over water them. wait until top soil is dry then water. Hopefully will have a better results next time. Happy growing and thank you for visiting!
Alyssum likes moist soil but prefers cooler conditions and generally doesn’t do well with flowering if it gets above 85F (30C) degrees. Thanks for visiting!
Currently,My Alyssum seed is not germinating within 2 weeks. Morning Sun is mostly available but my place is now in rainy season.But.I keep it to be in good condition. Why does it not germinate? How should I do?
Alyssum seeds can take up to 14 days to germinate, but it is possible that you got a bad batch of seeds (which is normal when growing from seeds). You may start another tray while you are waiting, or I suggest to get a new seed packet from another vendor and replant them. Also, a heat mat might help to increase the temperature if it is too cold. I hope this helps and thank you for visiting.
I got the seeds from my local garden center, but if you want to get it online here is the link www.burpee.com/alyssum-royal-carpet-prod000120.html . Happy growing and thank you for your comment!

You are correct, they are ground covering type plants and will spread out. Happy growing and thank you so much for your comment!
@Toward Garden Wow! I'm relieved! I've grown my plants and it seems they're enough to cover the area! Thank you very much!
Very well done. Wishing you and your garden abundance.

Hi, do we need to cover the container with clear plastic to get green gas effect after seed sowing?
Hi, I don't do that and don't think it is needed. Thank you for visiting.

Depending on the weather, it may start blooming in 6 weeks. Happy growing and thank you for visiting!

Awesome video! Are watering and sunlight all you’re giving after planting the seeds? is it just enough water to keep the soil moist 1” below surface?

I don't use grow lights. A sunny window sill or a filtered sunlight works much better than a grow light. Thanks.

suggestion of what fertilizer to use?
Any flower fertilizer with high phosphorus will work. I use one with 5-10-5 NPK ratio. Thank you for visiting!
Sooooooo beautiful!

I have plenty of white Alyssum. Are there other colors obtainable by seed
Yes, there are seeds for different colors. Best is to use seeds of mixed colors to get a wide variety of flowers. Thanks for visiting!
@@TowardGarden Thank you I will do that
I have the seeds tomorrow im replicating your process, thank you for the info. What ph should the soil be at?
Sounds wonderful. They prefer ordinary garden soil ph 6-7. Happy growing and thank you for your comment!
Can it grow well in tropical?
Alyssum likes moist soil but prefers cooler conditions and generally doesn’t do well with flowering if it gets above 85F (30C) degrees. Thanks for visiting!
You're welcome, i love your video btw..
So, do you have any other flower suggestions that could attract ladybugs?
Btw i live in southeast asia, which is tropical
Not sure but I think you can grow marigold. Also some herbs like mint, parsley or cilantro will attract ladybugs.
I wish it was mine so pretty
Thank you for your comment! Wishing you a beautiful garden.
How often do you water it?
For the plants in ground, I usually water twice a week. The seedlings, about every couple of days. Thanks for visiting.
