I hate when they hide screws under cosmetic bezels that look like crap after you peel them off to get to the screws. I'd much prefer screw holes on the bottom, than no screws visible anywhere hidden under stickers.
Remember boys and girls.. when you hear things break free, pull harder. It means you're on the right track. Ye ole saying applies: "the harder the sound of the crack, it won't fight back"
I almost bought one of these but some reviews mentioned the focus depth issue so I reluctantly passed on it and bought one with a small stand that has a focus control.
Hey, no big deal. You could have tried to force unscrew the lense while on. Probably has a drop of brittle CA glue, a little squeezing around the lens body with pliers brakes that. Unscrewing increases the focal distance...
The camera looks like the one that comes with the ESP32-CAM. It's 2 MP. Thanks for doing this so I don't have to. I guess I'll just stick with my magnifying glass.
i just bought one of these and i think its pretty useful to inspect traces as long as its on a flat surface. I am wondering if we can increase the focus distance by using a small lens Infront of the integrated one. i believe this thing was designed to inspect paper money or stamps but not for anything else
A classic case of when the warning of "No user servicable parts inside, only to be repaired by qualified personell" is true. At least these are cheap enough if you wish to replace it.
There could have been just an optical solution to what you wanted. Just get a minus/ myopic/ negative power lens and stick it below the camera. If you get an optical trial lens set, you can pick your focal distance by the negative lens you choose from the set.
Well, you got some LED's also; in case they might be useful. I noticed the 1x at the bottom of the screen; does this mean it would zoom in the picture; although lose definition? Plus, now that you know how it is made it might be possible to fix it in some other way, so you know what not to do again. Just some thoughts on this one!
Bad design idea to make it flat so you have to lay the whole unit down on the surface to use it. Would be better if the optical unit was at a pointy front end of it, and the screen at the other end. So you just had a 2cm x 2cm surface that you placed over the object.
The website says 500x magnification, but that's probably a myth. Is it actually a normal magnifying glass with 10x magnification? It doesn't matter, if it works, it's good.

I really like this concept and hardware design! So small and handy. too bad about no adjustable focal length..
Somehow I feel better about my recent screwups. Thanks!
also relieved that even him with his huge experience sometimes brakes things and this does not happen only to me :)
Bummer! Reminds me of the channel "There, I ruined it"
Good teardown, though. Thanks.

I wasn't pulling hard.
@@12voltvidsThat's what she said. Yet here I am with 2 children.
We're still here hanging out with ya bud.
Fook Me, that was fast!
I agree that changing the focus would be a worthwhile thing to be able to do. too bad they went to special effort to prevent that.
Would be useful

It's teardown Tuesday..what can we break today.

I know hoe to focus but granted that it was just stuck on with tape any attempt to turn would have resulted in same thing.
Totally honest Video. Well done pal Thanks . 🇬🇧 ..
I find things that easily magnifies small print useful.
Btw, now you know how I mess things up when I try taking things apart sometimes. Lol.
For fine print this is a great idea and its pretty cheap.
You dissected that like a gorilla having lunch 😂
Didn't expect the camera to be glued to the sceeen
