LOL Your description of a German pointer is was so accurate! Same for American pointers! I kept one for a friend while they were in the hospital for surgery. This pointer could jump my ten foot solid wood fence like it was not even there! I put wire on top, she dug under the fence, I put down pepper and she just sneezed when she dug! If she was outside, she was gone unless I had a leash on her at all times and that was just not possible. The dog was used to having the run of a many acre farm. At my house, she was beautifully behaved inside, BUT she insisted upon taking herself for a daily swim when it came to time for yard play and exercise! Which meant getting out of my fenced yard, running about 1.5 miles to the river, taking her swim and then running home wet, dirty and smelly! Her owner had to laugh as I apologized for not being able to keep up with her darling's escape techniques! I finally got a treadmill and taught her to run on that and let her take a long shower every day! She loved it, which was good because she ended up being my forever dog when her owner did not recover from her illness. I was an experienced pet owner and I had a devil of a time creating a way for my new dog to get the exercise and water fun she craved.
Cheez, that’s a terrific presentation for a whole bunch of reasons. I watched the entire video because we lost our 14 yr old yellow lab last Spring and have embarked on the research to purchase a Lab this next Fall. This video is “required reading” for everyone but it’s a remarkable resource for grieving owners because the disciplines needed for a new owner are the same disciplines for an experienced owner looking replace a lost friend. Good job on this. And thank you.
Even though I can't pick the perfect puppy I believe I have found the perfect cold-weather hat. I enjoy all your videos, and feel I have learned a lot from you. Thanks for sharing the knowledge you have gathered and so freely pass along.
Hi Stonnie! I know, it’s an “old”video and this comment comes late…but never too late because the things you said 5 years ago are still, and always will be, actual and true. I have a son with a Down Syndrome and when he was 8 we bought a Labrador Retriever. With a purpose, of course, and selecting the dog for it’s characteristics. People also advised us to adopt a dog. I didn’t agree just for the reasons you so smartly put in…I had other needs. I had to overwhelm my own opinions on my “humanity”. Nana is my second dog, and I’m really thinking of another lab on the future, ‘cause I’m a Red Cross volounteer and I’d like to train a dog for the research in civil protection. I really appreciate and like you videos, you’re rational, logical and a very good “psicologist” of dogs. Thank you for your videos!! Tatjana from Italy
@@StonnieDennis we have decided at ages 51 and 55 to add a third dog to our pack. As I was watching your video I kept waiting to have remorse...but I didn't :D The shelter we have been working with gives a "cool down" period as well as making sure that the schedule for him to come home works for all involved. He comes home Wednesday and will be nearly 11 weeks old. (Hope they didn't wait too long!)
Totally disagree. The responsibility lies with the individual. If each person acts responsibily. Pet ownership is a non issue. Requirements are restrictions and not a substitute for responsibility. If you buy from a breeder you believe is irresponsible. You are acting irresponsibly. If you are a breeder who doesn't at least casually interview buyers. You are acting irresponsibly. All the requirements in the world will not make people responsibil. Instead what happens is the restrictions become an obstacle to ownership at the expense of the animal. Don't believe me? Go to petfinder and see some of the applications AND prices for dogs and cats. Particularly dogs and cats of questionable breeding and or socialization.
In getting our last dog (an Aussie/Lab mix...we loved the temperament from previous experience) for a companion dog, both the wife and I agreed that it was more important that the puppy pass our "aptitude" test rather than the looks. We both wanted a blue merle that had the Aussie features, however, the puppy that came through with flying colors on our aptitude test was a brown and white pup with more of the Lab features. Yes, with his Aussie and Lab genetics, he needs to physically play a lot, so long fetch sessions (with a ball or Kong), Frisbee, and long walks are a must. In addition, he needs to be intellectually challenged with everything from tricks to games. It also helps that he has a bigger and older dog to play and rough-house with, as we babysit our adult son's Rotty /Chow-Chow mix while he works swing shifts. It's now 18 months later and we have no regrets...our brown and white pup is turning out to be our intelligent, playful, and faithful companion.
Perfect. I was considering getting a dog, but I live in an urban area, fenced in yard, I work all day and live alone. So now I have a lot more food for thought on the subject, esp. if my lifestyle fits ownership. Thanks bunches for helping me make a much more informed decision.
I know this is a year later, but... There are plenty of older dogs in shelters etc. that would be thrilled to live with you and just sleep most of the day.
Great to see how you were so patient with the German Shepherd in getting it to walk across the plank, I must admit, I thought it wasn't going to do it so" Hats off to you"
For anyone reading this: I know that dog training can be difficult sometimes, but you're doing great. Keep up the good work, and your dog (and your own sanity) will thank you for it! ❤️💕
Great idea I have rescued about 20 dogs out of woods some showed up and also found homes for them I recently adopted 2 German shepherd/ catahoula mixes I have never had more challenging dogs had them since they were 6 weeks old since mother got killed They are now 7 months old and I have to admit I have lost my temper with them several times They are much better now but I have to say for anybody that doesn’t want to go through all these puppy challenges Get a dog 2 years or up so much better and they appreciate you so much when they are coming from a rescue Thank you for your great tips and the list
Uncle stonnie always shooting it straight, love it!! Say it how it is, asshats getting dogs and not doing squat with them, zero work or effort and then give them up bc they didn’t magically house break themselves or chew things when they get no walks, and you hear “they have a yard”, and know every inch of that yard in an hour. Dogs are born and bred to travel and smell over long distances.
This UA-cam came up next after watching another video and I’m so happy that it did. What an awesome video. Great tips and watching the pups had me smiling from ear to ear. We have 4 of our own and have been “babysitting” our daughter’s 2 husky malamute mixes for a year (they’re on their way home soon-their momma is in the navy) and we adore our babies. They MAKE our days! ❤️
I started this thinking how can you keep my interest for 1.5 hrs. Turns out it was easy. This is a fine video and really is a must watch for potential dog owners. Like me.
Fantastic advice. I’d prefer to adopt already trained adult dogs 2-4 years old because I just don’t have the time or desire to put in the work of training a puppy to be an excellent dog. I don’t want to be dealing with chewed up furniture and excessive puppy energy when I can go to the pound and ask them to keep an eye out for a calm tempered adult who could fit my situation. I’d like to get an adult because you know what you are going to get. With a puppy maybe he will mellow or maybe he will be high energy until he is 8, you can’t be sure.
Inspiring video. We’ve waited for 2 years for our 3rd Lab, but know our position in life is not right for all the reasons you’ve expressed right here. That’s hard to accept because we love Labs, but we also know we must wait to be fair to the dog, and to be good dog owners. Thank you for sharing your wisdom. Your good nature with the dogs, and your kind yet tough words are understood and appreciated. Truth has been spoken. Question: How did you achieve self-discipline, your work ethic, your personal philosophy in life reflected in your training?
I have an English Springer Spaniel/Poodle and we love our bike attachment and biking. I keep her slightly ahead of my pedals so I don’t go to fast- yet she is a speed demon. She just radiates joy when she runs with me and the bike.
@@jamminjoy My Nessie is a wonderful, smart, gentle, joyful, derp. When we work on recall she sometimes slams into me because she speeds back and forgets to slow down. I have an older dog, a golden retriever, mini-poodle, Bichon mix (Indiana, “Indy”) who has been an “old soul” from the very beginning. He is a very good dog. We had our pick of the litter with Nessie- and we let our older dog choose. They had another dog reserved for us, but Indy chose wisely. We train with positive reinforcement, and make sure they get plenty of love, exercise, and mental stimulation. They have very different personalities, but both are the best dogs ❤️
I picked up a 9 month old doberman puppy last month at my local pound. The pound had removed the dogs from the home and several fighting dogs. The vet told me the fighting dogs had battle scars from fights. This doberman is a great dog but I took both my pets in to make sure there were no problems or aggression issues. I also purchased a different puppy from a breeder last week because my elderly dog is at the end of his life and I wanted him to be able to help train this dog for what I need him for. I looked for a few years for the dogs I wanted and for the roles I needed and with a little training these dogs should be perfect.
Another tip that worked for me was to dog sit for different types of dogs for extended periods of time to figure out what works best for you. This drastically changed our family's mind about what we really wanted. Thanks for the video!
Stonnie provides a doctorate training in canine caretaking in this video! I need to make a similar video for those considering a parrot. Everything said in this video applies to anyone considering aviculture. Thank you again for sharing your wisdom!
This has been a real eye opener to me. I now understand why so many dogs are in shelters. I know that was not your intent for the most part and you presented it as a preventative thought or measure, but whenever and whether I get/have a dog or have a pack, i am so into a dog companion whatever they need I'll get, I'll do. We've had hard times and we got through it together. Come what may, we are stalwart friends - "ride or die". We are friends for life. We help each other. I have and will change my situation, to keep my dog or dogs. It is an "ask anybody" situation with me. Nothing shall separate me and my dog(s). P. S. BTW as a single mom, working full time, going to college, I raised a son and a Jack Russell Terrier, a Boxer, 2 Maltese and their puppies till sold. The birthing event happened at work in the guest sitting area as I brought my pregnant dog and my son to work that night and with 5-minute breaks here and there and my coffee breaks and lunch break I was able to instruct my son in overseeing the births. If it was not allowed for them to be inside they would have been in the car - and when I came in I told my charge nurses that if I had to go to the emergency hospital with my dog, then I would be gone in a flash to drop her off . Ya gotta be adaptable!
WOAW! I just watched the whole video. And boy, it's a WHOLE video! Love it, love it! Many highlights, many wisdom. I felt like I'm learning a thing or two. Cheers from the other side of the earth! Love your work, thanks for keeping us posted.
Oh how cute Mr Noname is as a puppy. I’m watching your older videos. Thank you so much! My Lab/ Akita rescue puppy is now 2 years old. Your training videos have helped me so much in training her.
Thank you Stonnie! I found you a few weeks ago while searching for puppy training videos. I'm a HUGE FAN!! I've committed to a female black lab who will come home mid March. She'll join my husband and me and our amazing Bella, an 8-1/2 year old lab, but its been a long time since there was a puppy in the house. Anyway, the breeder has two females available so this gives me things to think about. Also, my adult son is very anxious to get a dog so I sent him the link because you really laid out all the things he needs to consider. Thank you for all you're sharing with all of us!!
Great Video !!! Tucker is looking so good Yeah! GO TUCKER!. It took me a few years to educate myself about bringing a puppy into our family. This video put everything in one place. Thanks Stonnie. I especially appreciate the real talk about the kids. My kids love our dog... That said, teenage boys are all over the map. They Love our dog, but he's never going to be their priority. If you have kids, and you adopt/purchase a dog...It's YOUR dog. Have a plan. Be honest with yourself.
I love your videos, training and wisdom. Wish I lived closer, I would love to train in this set up. Where I train is much more formal and indoors, it's fine but I love the other dogs walking around and everything just flows and is so natural. I get so many gems from watching your videos, thank you!
bit late for us LOL as we have had our rescue 'Rose' for a couple of months … it's been interesting to say the least. My previous dog was also a rescue from the same pound but he was a bit older and house trained lol … What fun it all is.
Don't believe the Instapwn people! They're scamemrs! I see them in a lot of videos, it's 2 or three accounts saying "Instapwn really works!" Report them
The only thing I would include in the list is grooming the dog as well as shedding. The shedding of a husky and a Chihuahua are very different and everyone has their own tolerance hehe. Great video though!
The hand puppet is such a great idea to teach children how to behave properly without the bite liability for child and dog. Poop bag pretend walk is a nice commitment preview for the family.
Love your videos. I always learn something! I started the search for a pup 1 year ago. I started keeping a journal in Feb (7 months ago) keeping track of training ideas, goals, long term dreams etc. I found your channel just a couple of weeks ago. Found things in the video that I had not thought of. I pick up my pup in 3 weeks. The journal has just made the journey more exciting as I appoach the day my longed for puppy comes home. Thanks for making me think even deeper!
Stonnie, Love your videos and they have been instrumental in training our family dog. I have recommended your channel to friends and family! As I have progressed through your videos, I noticed that you seem to favor labs over malinios now in what you show. What sparked this change I am wondering? Thanks again for the great ideas. So refreshing to see someone who loves being outside and working with the dogs in a positive and upbeat manner.
I'm extremely glad you took time to make this video. I want a couple of dogs for protection and emotional support. I'm not sure if one dog can do both. I don't know what I need to do to keep dogs healthy. I want to learn what I need to know about how to care for dogs before I adopted dogs. I also want to make sure I get the best dog for my needs. I want my dogs to be happy and healthy.
I finally convinced my dad to get a puppy after two years of researching! We will be going on vacation but once we get back we will fill out an adoption form for a beagle terrier mix ! I know that beagles and terriers are very energetic dogs but I’m an energetic person! We have a large two story house with a large backyard and I already take my dog on a LOT of walks every day even tho he’s a senior. (Which he loves). Thank you for all the good advice!
Excellent video Stonnie! I agree completely and I needed to hear the hard truths. Recently I've been thinking about getting a dog for protection sports and if that is really the goal I'll need to make some adjustments to my day to fit in what that dog will need. Excellent video! For Mr. Noname - you could come up with a top list and ask your viewers to vote. Just an idea!
Where do I get a vest like you and Georgie wear? We are getting a new black lab puppy in February. Just lost our Black-Justice 16 years old and our yellow Indey 15 years old. and also long lead and leash/collar you use. My two old labs went on many hiking adventures with me everyday-over their life time!! Love your channel!! Everything about it!!! from your family to your style with the dogs. Keep America great!!
I really enjoy your interactions with your dogs. It is clear you definitely love dogs and get plenty of enjoyment from working with them. Thank you for your posts.
Love the idea of the journal. So important because dogs are a huge investment and need to be considered over time. I love dogs and have my first two rescues. Unfortunately they are terrible at dog parks and after years of training and conditioning for reactivity and domination, I just can’t take them off the lead at dog parks. If I were to write in my journal, the first thing would be to be able to visit the dog park with my dog.
Just started watching. Great, down to earth advice from Stonnie as always. I have got to 15mins and I keep watching from 10-15 mins GREAT ADVICE. I’m going to sit down with the Missus and go through that 5 mins with her 😂
I always loved dogs but retained from adopting one because I wasn’t able to guarantee I can walk and take care of him enough. But now I got pretty sick, I really feel I need one as a “buddy”. Next week I am picking up a black Labrador puppy. Really looking forward to it. Your movies are great learning and enjoyable to watch and listen 😁 woeps 😷...in lot of aspects.
First off - I LOVE your fox winter hat! Also laffed at your comments about kids - sooo true! Really appreciate your perspectives on types of pups! Lotsa food for thought! ❤️
That warmed my heart. Such patience. We also have a GSD . Such poor proprioception that we are getting straw bales for his balance beam part of our small challenges course. He thinks he's still the size he was as puppy and has no idea what that big rear ended is that follows him around everywhere he goes. We are afraid he'll get hurt. So Clumsy!!
Very uplifting video even for current dog owners, sometimes some insights are just as helpful as how to! Understanding is the first step to fixing lol have a great day;)
Hello from texas. Love your content stonnie. Used your video clips to teach my belgium malinois how to sit and down.. This was 2 years ago. Now i just got 2 more mals and moved to a ranch. And binge watching your videos. And i always strive to be a responsible owner.
You are the best!! Some German Shepherds bred to bounce off the walls today! I have never used a shock collar ever that is a big thing nowadays? Breeders need to thoroughly vent people who want one of their dogs. That is the one thing I hate is placing dogs with the wrong people I have had to rehome a German Shepherd that they crated and they ruined her because they didn't trainer Naik rated R for the first six months of her life but she thought the nice veteran I play store with and she's doing fabulous now. Of course I took her back I try to keep in contact with my pups I don't want to be too nosy but then again I worry.
Excellent! Thank you so much. This is exactly what I needed as I'm hoping to get a puppy in the next year or so. Trying to do my research now to get prepared.
It’s a great list and if people would watch this video before getting a dog they may not get one or get one and give it a forever home. Thank you for the informative video, I got my puppy and so far so good. My older dog and the puppy are getting along we all love and care for the puppy. I think we will be alright. 🐶🤞🏼🥰
Very smart and with great and proper consideration for the dog. I have so much respect for you, and gratitude for your channel. I have a puppy Yellow Lab, now 6 months, and your channel helped me with so much! So thank you! 🙏💖🙋🐕🐾🐾
Oh I like the way you think Stoney! And as much as I love a vizsla, I know its not the right time for me to have one, and you vocalized what I knew in my heart....I will wait until my circumstances are more appropriate for a pup!
Stonnie, did u ever consider doing what many big UA-cam trainers are doing lately....doing workshops or hands on seminars? So many people can't afford a board and train program or just can't send their dog far away, so they are overwhelmed with an unruly dog. It would be so great if u could do a few weekend seminars in different states. You would be surprised how many people would be lining up to work with you. Think of all the people you can personally help!! It would be life changing for sure. I would be the first on line if u came to NYC!! People get to bring their dogs and u tell/show them just the right way for their dog. Ask your followers if they would like such an opportunity. U just might be shocked by the overwhelming response.
Shana, Might I suggest Stonnie's journal-email-video-correspondence training. It's one one one. Cost is about the same as puppy, intermediate, & advanced basic training at most reputable trainers (3 classes) but Stonnie sees you through from start to finish. Within reason I'm sure. You might wish to email him (see website) and request the current rates. You need Google Drive and a phone with memory do you can share your vids. Highly recommend.
Yo Stonie, what you talking about dogs dont give any advice, thats just about the last thing i expected to hear from you... They might not give unsolicited advice and get into every single thing you do and say you should this or that, and sure enough they never give bad advice, but they give you major life advice in their own way, im now 35 im a proud companion of a 6 yo labbie/pit mix girl named Shiva, we been together since she was about 10 weeks, and she gave me very good advices along the way and taught me so much about companionship, trust and her needs and taught me some really important life lessons i had not learned before like accountability and admitting and owning up to mistakes you make, what companionship really means and what it means to be responsible for another life. Im someone who prefers dogs over people and Shiva seems to be pregnant now and to tell you the whole truth, my family owns a patch of a wooded area really deep in the woods and im thinking of keeping the whole litter and transfer myself into those woods with my pups (if we will be blessed with them) and make my life there with them. I know Shiva would love it only thing im unsure about is me and if i could pull it off, i will leave that one with the universe tho, if thats how things are supposed to go, so be it :)
Thank you for putting out this informatiom. I would add when cheecking out a breeder to ask what their response would be if a defect appeared in the pup after bringing the pup home how would they respond. I say this because our pup began showing signs of an overbite. Now we had met this breeder before she had pups. Met her breeding stock. Error one we made was not liking mother of our pup but taking one of her pups. This mom was very hyper. Of all the dogs (breeder has 8, 6 which she breeds) this one was not well mannered. She came at us jumping and beinging a total spasz. Told myself not this one but another dame I would want. But I did not listen to my gut. She was the first to have a litter. (We live 5.5 hours away) back to the defect, at 10 weeks (we picked him up at 8 weeks.)he started to show signs of a overbite. This would be confirmed by three vets. The last vet specializes in dental issues with animals. (She works on zoo animals as well who have dental problems) our pup had to wait till he was 8 months old before having surgery to alleviate the pain caused by his overbite. His canines were impaling his palate. Thus having a vital pupltomy He would also have two other teeth also impaling his palate that needed to be extracted. This was expensive surgery. Regarding the breeder, she denies her dogs are carriers of this defect. I have one of her dogs as well as his bloodline history. Somewhere there is a carrier of overbite. Baron's overbite is 1.5 inches in length ( meaning the lower jaw is 1.5 inches shorter then the upper jaw!) The breeder has done nothing to assist with this issue. I know of a breeder who helped by paying and finding behavioralist for one of their pups who needed help. This was an expensive show dog. Another friend got a Golden Retriever who lost half his ear when he was born. The breeder reduce her fee by 50% because if this. I have received nothing but a cold shoulder from the breeder. I have contacted AKC with documentation, hoping they would send a letter to the breeder not to breed Baron's parents again. Nope they just told us to sue her for cost of the surgery. If anyone reading this thinks pet insurance would have covered the surgery, think again they do not cover genetic defects. So Stonnie thus is why I would add th8s question to the breeder. We had Baron checked out by a vet three days after we picked him up as the breeder request to verufy he was sound. But he would not show his defect fir two more weeks. He is also very hyper like his mom. We are on our 4th trainer. She understands what we are going through with his behavior. He lqcks impulse control. Other trainers kept saying he a puppy. Yes one who lacks impulse control! Anyway this trainer has helped extensively. Works with him twice a week plus her staff too. He is making progress. Baron is a large breed, who will be 100# when he is fully grown. He needs to know manners. This is not our first Giant Schnauzer either. This breeder is in N. Royalton, Ohio. Beware is all I can say if you are looking for a Giant Schnauzer look elsewhere. I have spoken to another family who has one of his brothers, they too are having behavioral issues. They live in southern Ohio, we live in another state. Mandy washes her hands once you leave with one of her pups.
I look at that old dog and Tom T Hall's song comes to mind "Old dogs and children and watermelon wine" are the best things in life. Nothing better than an old dog you love.
I LOVE this Stoney!! I'll have to say this is right up at the top!!! Thank You for loving dogs & your hard work to help ALL dog lovers, like me!!! I have a English Mastiff, Chihuahua & Yorkie!! All are amazing!!
Thank you so much for your work. I have watched a lot of videos and your videos resonate with me the most because you explain their behavior so simply. What you say is so educational and makes so much sense. I am a mma coach and it's so like training people. Thank you so much for your content.
At 1:28...4 wiggly Labs = heaven!! Thank you Stonnie for taking the time to make this video. We will be getting a new puppy in a couple of weeks! Black Lab - thinking of naming him Henry :)
Just found your content, I've grown up with and raised a number of dogs (labradors) had two yellows, horribly behaved and one black who is perfect, anyways just about to go into raising my own dog by myself and it's great to get an opinion that mirrors a lot of what I've learnt but provides a bit more detail that I just missed over the years. Keep up the great videos mate!
I'm very analytical and think big picture so I had thought about a lot of these things but, I learned about a few more things I need to consider and figure out! Thanks for the advice, well thought out and clearly delivered. You made my over-analyzation and over-thinking seem normal and justified hah! Sub'd!
"But then you get married. Is your spouse still the perfect candidate for having that kind of dog? Maybe your spouse is allergic to dogs." Stonnie, this is the most backwards logic I've ever heard on your channel. Clearly they should be asking if they're the right spouse for the dog they've already got.
i guess im randomly asking but does someone know a tool to log back into an instagram account?? I somehow lost my login password. I would appreciate any assistance you can offer me
Hello Stonnie from Australia. Can you do videos with kelpies if you ever get to see them. ?? I’ve had a lifetime with dogs and kelpies have been my personal favourites. Hardy , loving and so reliable. 🐕🐕🐕❤️
I’m about to get a new puppy. I got a new job and had to move to LA my current dog grew up on my farm and it didn’t feel right dragging him away from his pack, livestock, all the land he could run, and just the freedom he gets living in the country just to bring him to live in my 1 bedroom apt in a very busy hectic city with not many options for him to run and roam the way he likes. So I made the hard decision to leave him on the farm with my mom. Almost by fate not long after I made the decision his Breeder called me to let me know she’s having another litter due in July and she’s giving me first pick of the litter. I can’t wait the new puppy won’t be ready to come home until late Sept or early Oct. Luckily my apt is very pet friendly and my job allows me to bring a dog to work everyday.
thank you so much!!! I loved your video so much. Very helpful. And I love your slowly swiss mountain bernice dog. Yes they are calm. greetings from switzerland.
Stonnie, I love the channel! Thank you for all of the content you provide, it has helped me so much. I was wonder what your thoughts are on the Mountain Feist? Are the more like no name or more like Tazer. As far as when you were talking about showing no name a task and he learns quickly compared to Tazer. Thank you for your time.
Hi, Stonnie. I love your channel. I have a question: What are the "treats" you use while training? I've heard you mention that you set aside a certain amount of the dogs daily rations for training, but are the "treats" just dog chow or some other food? Keep the great videos coming!
Stonnie’s lessons on raising decent puppies can also be used as life lessons for us humans too. Great channel.
No other trainer has a video like this one. Loved the comment that one's dog is always up for what you want to do, never complaining or questioning.
Wow. As someone looking to get a dog 4-5 months from now, this was fantastic. This is an insanely valuable.
Ron Miller I’m glad you enjoyed it!

This should be required viewing for all shelters, breeders and anyone else who is responsible for adopting out puppies.
Thank you!
@@heathermcdaniel5488 How's it going , Heather?
@@StonnieDennis I agree!!

Great idea
I have rescued about 20 dogs out of woods some showed up and also found homes for them
I recently adopted 2 German shepherd/ catahoula mixes
I have never had more challenging dogs had them since they were 6 weeks old
since mother got killed
They are now 7 months old and I have to admit I have lost my temper with them several times
They are much better now but I have to say for anybody that doesn’t want to go through all these puppy challenges
Get a dog 2 years or up so much better and they appreciate you so much when they are coming from a rescue
Thank you for your great tips and the list
Thank your son for his service! We appreciate him
Uncle stonnie always shooting it straight, love it!!
The best "Dog ownership" video I have ever seen. Every word is true.
Like me.
Thank you! I’m glad you enjoyed it!
My hubby and I decided to watch 30 min a night for three nights. Ha!
"Radiates joy." That is the quality I'm looking for in the puppy I hope to acquire.
Taser walked the red plank, that was awesome. Awesome training and patience by Trainer and Dog
A long vid, but what a wealth of information! Many thanks for taking time out of your busy day to make these vidoes for us Uncle Stonnie!
WOAW! I just watched the whole video. And boy, it's a WHOLE video! Love it, love it! Many highlights, many wisdom. I felt like I'm learning a thing or two. Cheers from the other side of the earth! Love your work, thanks for keeping us posted.
eh do BR ? haha
Ditto. I love how the dogs get success so easily. Confidence!
Potential doesn't matter, realised potential matters. Applies to humans as well.
Thanks for the wisdom.
bit late for us LOL as we have had our rescue 'Rose' for a couple of months … it's been interesting to say the least. My previous dog was also a rescue from the same pound but he was a bit older and house trained lol … What fun it all is.
Great vid. You covered everything except which gender to get: a boy or girl?
Had to comment while watching - Great hat.
Where I'm located, it was negative 10 degrees on Wednesday & Thursday, so today when it was 40 degrees, it was quite the blessing.
The hand puppet is such a great idea to teach children how to behave properly without the bite liability for child and dog.
Poop bag pretend walk is a nice commitment preview for the family.
Thanks!
Stonnie,
Love your videos and they have been instrumental in training our family dog.
I still have Mals. I’m actually thinking of doing a series of training videos based on old books. Maybe I will bring Mals back for that series...
I have 6 dogs again, can't tell you how many insights you have given me. My dogs are all smaller, I retired early so I have the time for them. Subbed
By far the most detailed and HONEST guide, cant thank you enough dear Sir 👍
I'm extremely glad you took time to make this video. I want a couple of dogs for protection and emotional support. I'm not sure if one dog can do both. I don't know what I need to do to keep dogs healthy. I want to learn what I need to know about how to care for dogs before I adopted dogs. I also want to make sure I get the best dog for my needs. I want my dogs to be happy and healthy.
My wife and I are 2-3 months away from getting a puppy. This video was a huge help and thanks a million.
Did you get it?
Or we make suggestions and you pick one?
I am glad I found this video. I will picking my puppy virtually and this is helpful.
Hey Stonnie I love your videos. Just curious how does one become your apprentice?
Where do I get a vest like you and Georgie wear? We are getting a new black lab puppy in February. Just lost our Black-Justice 16 years old and our yellow Indey 15 years old. and also long lead and leash/collar you use. My two old labs went on many hiking adventures with me everyday-over their life time!! Love your channel!! Everything about it!!! from your family to your style with the dogs. Keep America great!!
I really enjoy your interactions with your dogs. It is clear you definitely love dogs and get plenty of enjoyment from working with them. Thank you for your posts.
Chuck Crookshanks Thank you for watching!
I want the puppy hanging from the toolbox.
Am wondering how that worked out cause I raised a black Lab mix pup and I’m glad I wasn’t sick because it took a lot of energy from me everyday.
First off - I LOVE your fox winter hat! Also laffed at your comments about kids - sooo true! Really appreciate your perspectives on types of pups! Lotsa food for thought! ❤️
Taser is a stunning GSD! I'd love to know where he came from!
Your work with TASER!! No fussing just repetition! HE GOT IT! Way to go TASER
So Clumsy!!
-Kim S. 😁🐶
Great information to think about. In my opinion you always seem to have the right approach. You also rock the hat!!
Seeing some of the older content i can see where i dropped the ball.
LOL! Your rant on people complaining and that's why you like your dogs that are happy wherever they go with you!
You’re exactly right about degeneracy in modernity and I’m glad you said it.
Weew, what a great movie. Much better than the crap we get these days. Loved it!
Shana Karlsen Thank’s for the support. Unfortunately, I don’t think you will be seeing me in New York City, any time soon.
@@StonnieDennis I live on long island outside N.Y.C. I don't blame you!
I live outside N.Y.C. on L.I. Who in their right mind wants to come to the city?
Stoney. You would be surprised how nice people are in NYC. I grew up in Michigan, moved here and have managed to adapt 😊
Very educational. A should watch for anyone thinking about getting a new puppy or adult dog.
I look at that old dog and Tom T Hall's song comes to mind "Old dogs and children and watermelon wine" are the best things in life. Nothing better than an old dog you love.
Triple feature! Thanks Stonnie. Sound advice and great review/compilation of many points from other vids.
I have picked the perfect puppies and dogs from my local shelter the best never had a problem
Dude, that hat is trippy after a long vid...nice job.
Great video. I love watching the dogs around you. Norton the older yellow lab is just lovely!
Wise words from a wise man!!! Totally agree with everything you said from start to finish!!
I'm very analytical and think big picture so I had thought about a lot of these things but, I learned about a few more things I need to consider and figure out! Thanks for the advice, well thought out and clearly delivered. You made my over-analyzation and over-thinking seem normal and justified hah! Sub'd!
this is a fantastic video and your channel is criminally underrated
Im on my second doberman. Perfect balance of energy, relaxation, loyalty, affection and intimidation.
"But then you get married. Is your spouse still the perfect candidate for having that kind of dog? Maybe your spouse is allergic to dogs."
Stonnie, this is the most backwards logic I've ever heard on your channel. Clearly they should be asking if they're the right spouse for the dog they've already got.
There's a saying, "love me, love my dog"
i guess im randomly asking but does someone know a tool to log back into an instagram account??
I somehow lost my login password. I would appreciate any assistance you can offer me
Hello Stonnie from Australia. Can you do videos with kelpies if you ever get to see them. ?? I’ve had a lifetime with dogs and kelpies have been my personal favourites. Hardy , loving and so reliable. 🐕🐕🐕❤️
ℹThis is a FABULOUS video FULL of TIPS worth following!👌 Thank you! BEST regards from Spain!👋👋
As far as when you were talking about showing no name a task and he learns quickly compared to
Tazer. Thank you for your time.
Hello! Do you own a springer spaniel!? Please we need a video focused on that breed! They are gorgeous, but a hand full! Boyd is so handsome!
Where can I find the PDF for this as I would love to give this to my potential clients wanting a puppy from my breeding program.
Wish I watched this before getting a puppy. Would've been great for my family.
Appreciate the wisdom you share. It's very valuable perspective for anyone listening. I learned a lot! Much love!
Priceless wisdom from Stonnie yet again...
Thank you for your points. Invaluable advice. Some of your points, I had never even thought about.
Hi, Stonnie. I love your channel. I have a question: What are the "treats" you use while training? I've heard you mention that you set aside a certain amount of the dogs daily rations for training, but are the "treats" just dog chow or some other food? Keep the great videos coming!
I want a dog that is energetic when I want him to be and chill when I want him to be. I haven’t been able to find one of those yet.
Its a dog youve had for about 10-12 years lol
