@@ruethefox your correct, but its the wife who asks for the vegetables due to those pregnant cravings, he does it twice and she doesnt catch him but on the third try, she does and she is about to kill him when she decides your child for the food, and he agrees thinking nothing of it, and doest trill the wife of the bargain and she comes and takes the child after she is born. this opening was a closer fit to the riginagl story. But I wished they had kept the original tale tittle, and not changed it to Tangled. The original concept and songs for this were much closer to the original tale. But I do like what they did with the final product. I just wish they would go back to doing the fairy tales as is as far as time period and not try to fully update them so much.
I’m just wondering about Gothel’s endgame. How long did she really plan on using Rapunzel’s hair on herself? What if the girl grew old herself and died? What would Gothel do then?
Had Eugene narrated this version of the prologue, it would have worked wonderfully! I love how the original was alluded to via the king's entreaties... I also like how Mother Gothel turned into a raven to get inside the castle tower. (I still can't understand why Disney decided *not* to make Gothel a witch; witchcraft skillfully explains her abduction of the princess, and certainly her ability to lock Rapunzel in the doorless tower.)
This is a lot closer to the original with the desperate husband sneaking into the witch's garden to save his wife, but I think they made the right choice by switching to the fully animated opening (though they should have kept baby Rapunzel pulling her daddy's beard)
The part where she pulled his beard showed how much they were glad to steal the flower and it also shows the relation and the meaning to why he stole the flower right? CX
in the story i was told, if memory does not fail me, he was poor, and he and his family were starving, so he stole food from a nearby garden (i don't know how to say 'horta' in english, sry) to feed his family, but the witch living there found out and asked for the future baby as payment and so it goes.
In the original story, the man wasn't a king, and he stole cabbages from mother Gothals garden because they were very poor and had nothing to eat. She became a princess by marrying a prince
I have just realized, Rapunzle's parents needed actual lines like they did in this alternate version. Although the story itself revolves around Flynn and Rapunzle's adventure and love development, this kind of heart warming family scene could have made the audience feel that Rapunzle return to her family is quite as important, sure they made the king float the lantern in every birthdate, but this family scene wouldn't have lost to it by far and have actually supported the movie as much
the stage show that you can see on line from the Disney cruise does a much better job of creating the character development of the king and queen and the first main characters in the opening song Flower of Gold. it has flyn narrating aka singing, and it would look great on Broadway.
This alternative opening is better than alternative opening 2…the 2nd one had too much info packed together and dumped to the audience too quickly. Eugene's narration is the best. They made a good call making it the final one.
This is much better than the movie version of the prologue. Very classic Disney and it makes Gothel seem more evil and the crow is a nice touch. Wish they kept it /:
This fits the original story the father did steal of the needs of his wife, but they should had added in where Gothel cut her hair. And also gave reason why her hair keeps growing, they never explain why in the original.
+hunnykun101 it grew because that was the only way she could get in the tower....but how did they get up in the tower in the first place? I really don't know!
Julian Sanchez not really sure for the original, but for tangled it shows you in the scene where mother gothel found out that rapunzel left. When Rapunzel didn't let down her hair when she called, Gothel ran to the side of the tower and started ripping at old, loose stones into the tower to reveal an old entry. She probably borded this up to prevent others to come onto the tower.
If they used this opening it I would be rooting for gothel because that king stole a flower that he had been refused three times Gothel doesn't have to give him her flower she doesn't even live in his kingdom he has no power over her so stealing the flower would make him look like he had no regards for other peoples property even if it was to save his wife's life
But she hoarded the flower to herself to become young and healthy for centuries, and she didn't even bother to share it with anyone else not even a dying pregnant queen.
@@shadowwolf9467 She doesn’t have to if I came up to you and asked you for something like money or something else you have to save my wife and buy the medicine would you give me it even if I was a king
@@shadowwolf9467 I respect your belief but still the problem I have with this scene is that it tells the audience that the king has not respect for other peoples property and uses his king status to take other peoples things even if it is for the right reasons The second thing is if Gothel’s flower wasn’t stolen I don’t think she would turn out to be selfish on that level to kidnap people
Exactly. In one of the original stories, the King and Queen were a simple peasant couple that could see into the witch's garden. The husband stole from the witch, and, when faced with death, he explained his predicament. It was then the witch bargained with him; the rampion he stole for his wife's obsessive appetite in exchange for the child they would have. (They thought they were barren.) He agreed, and the deal was made. Aladdin taught us that it's okay to steal if you need it to survive. :P
this version makes me feel bad for the old women initially, it was her flower, finders keepers, she was protecting that flower for hundreds of years to have some rich dude take it from her. what has disney taught me? if you believe your intent is just, your actions will be justified.
At least this give a legitimate reason to steal the child. You steal my magic flower, I steal your baby. You can argue that she did the same thing in the final version but at least the revenge makes more sense than pure greed.
What I don't understand about this movie is WHY Mother Gothel would let Rapunzel know about her actual birthday, that her birthday is on the day when the lanterns will go up into the sky,coz I think it will make it much easier for Rapunzel to find out in the end that she is the lost princess. But I think it goes back to the fact that being so tightly guarded Mother Gothel assumes Rapunzel will never leave the tower, let alone find out about her identity
But if they knew Gothel was possessive over the flower, they would have suspected her of kidnapping the baby. The fact she stayed hidden in the new one kept her anonymous.
I agree. This version is definitely better. But I think so because it's more closely related to one of the original tales. Unfortunately, the balance of right and wrong is skewed, as the King stole from Mother Gothel. Good guys aren't allowed to steal, so they had to discard it. Then again, Aladdin got away with it, but most likely because he was poor; not a King. All in all, I favor the original story, and wish they had kept this opening in faithfulness to the one of the first story lines.
lol i don't know why the second guessed themselves.this version was 10xs BETTER then the one they let go.it gives better insight and it kinda goes along with the original Rapunzel story.
WOW. If they ACTUALLY used this one, Gothel would have seemed so much more vengeful and angry, with more reason to be a greedy bitch. I hate the normal way they went with, doesn't make any sense.
@SarahGailCotton What I mean is at least it made more sense to me. I know she was already selfish but it the fact that she actually had it on her property made the kidnapping more personal.
I actually like the movie version a lot more - this brings it wayy to close the exact fairy tale version, and they're being a bit repetitive with the storybook beginning that they've used so much. While I do think Flynn's humor might have detracted from the beauty of the beginning, I do enjoy the less storybook version and the overall beginning more than the alternate openings. So good decision Disney. :)
+Austin Mendoza In the original story the old witch was very selfish and lonely. Rapunzel was born to a poor couple who were forced to give her their baby as payment for the cabbage's the father stole so his wife would live, she was obsessed with Cabbages and ate them for her entire sickness and pregnancy. The witch too Rapunzel by force and hid her away. Really the witch wasn't evil, she only wanted someone to love her, in the end when Rapunzel betrayed her by falling in love and getting pregnant by her secret husband, the witch sent her away and tried to kill the Prince by blinding him. In the end the Prince found his wife and child and they lived happily ever after.
I think they made the right choice by making the King and Queen without dialogues. It made their characters so much more powerful.
This is actually closer to the original story; in the original the father DID steal plants from a witch, which lead to the woman taking the daughter.
+Kitsune Aitsuki yeah, though in the original, (as far as I know) he didn't ask for the plants, he just took them.
that and the mother was kinda of an addict.

Jay Strider No knows really. I remember Mother Gothel just let it grow because her hair was very beautiful and didn't want to cut it.
Yeah, if she cut Rapunzel's hair, it would turn brown and "die". I thought you meant why it grew so unnaturally long. I misinterpreted, I apologize.

My first thoughts were that, this reminded me of Shrek and Hercules
glad they didn't go with this, "you stole mah flowa? Imma steal yo bebe!"
