The purge is a normal thing to do when the locomotive has been standing for any length of time, residual water in the cylinders would cause damage if not vented. In this case, I'm thinking they made a good show of it for the fans, really impressive..

    • @MB_Videos1
      @MB_Videos1 Рік тому +1

True traditionally only done for a few rotations of the drivers, thus this was clearly done for the video/pictures as there would not have been that much steam-generated condensation built up!

This locomotive is a work of art, not only for its shape but the black and deep red CP livery. The loco and train in deep red contrast with the forest and fit into the scene perfectly, man-made and nature in harmony.

For a man that knows how the equipment operates to its finest detail, this is a show that tells what the equipment is doing in every aspect of its operation.
Can't get that kind of analysis with a diesel, as much as I love them.
Only a steamer can transmit so much information as it does its thing.
    LONG LIVE STEAM!
as a post script, I'd like to mention a cartoon, where someone said that an automobile would never supplant the horse.
If we ever get an EMP, steam would be the way to move the world!

Honestly this is one of the most beautiful engines I have ever seen. The paint job is wonderful, and seeing her ride through with a skirt of clouds was one of the most enchanting things I've ever witnessed.
Sorry to sound poetic, but raw pressure and mechanical power has way more of an emotional impact than any internal combustion engine or electric motor. This is why people like steam locomotives so much.

The title "The Beauty of Steam on a Cold Morning" is so apropos. Notice also the color of smoke coming from the smokestack, light grey. This is a sign of clean efficient combustion. The fireman knows what he's doing.

I'm old, and I've seen all governments do everything wrong for over 5 decades… but anyone who would vote to have this gorgeous train sent to the cutter should be drawn and quartered in public, but before that, have all the school children file by in the 1000s to see who is robbing them, and future generations of this glory and pride of workmanship. This train can't be replaced. I seriously think the world has gone mad. And don't tell me it's too costly to save steam trains… just look at what the dear politicians spend millions upon yearly….

Ha ha... yes... in fact when I was 40 in the early 80's, I'd never touched a computer before... way before any PC ... we were hooked up to a "Main Frame" downtown. I had two weeks training and went on to set up 28 STC'd aircraft ship systems on a multi-tiered fully indented BOM using parent/child format that involved some 62,000 individual components. Blueprints were taped up on the wall and painstakingly transferred a nut and bolt at a time.. it took three years. No one would do that now, but I learned a lot.

I know just what you are saying Jim.... I've watched the same type of dumb assed morons totally destroy almost all of the fantastic history of my city and in the process they turned it into a sterile 'Jetsons City' about as bland and as boring as batshit today. My secret wish is to have them and their offspring be forced to live forever in the 'ferret' boxes that they have created in their mindless thinking and their greed and their total failure to understand just how very precious so much of history can really be. Oh yes we had engines such as this one but long since gone to scrap metal for just another $ profit for the money grubbers. And no doubt, so much like the ones you speak of as well.

    • @jppicur

What American ingenuity? The steam locomotive was invented and developed in Britain. Most of the early American locomotives were built there, until a domestic industry sprang up in the mid-1830s. As for 2816, she was built in Montreal to the designs of an ex-patriot Brit, Henry Blaine Bowen, who incorporated British developments in advance of then-current American common use.

This is where part of my story titled, Adoption Not an Option, takes place.I love the sound of a train. It carries a haunting sound of moving into the abyss of space with no time yet time will change your course. I was a little girl, maybe three, when my life changed profoundly as I boarded the stairs and moved far away. I had no idea at the time that the train whistle would be forever etched into my life as a symbol of the family that disappeared from me. This mystical sound will be a huge part of my upcoming film, "Eugenea's Story." I can't wait to see it on screen.

steam that has condensed back to water in the cylinders, is in-compressible and can blow the cylinder covers right off a loco, doing immeasurable damage. While the length of time does seem a tad long, certainly better to be sure than sorry, and the only loss really is some cylinder lubrication. The photographic effect is pretty good and we can assume plenty of spectators.
