- Bom Dia my dear friends,
Today I like to introduce you to one of my favorite hobbies: gardening with succulents and assembling beautiful arrangements in large pots The climate here at the Algarve is perfect for growing succulents. They like the hot summers and the mild winters. If you forget to water them, they will survive. But after watering and applying a bit of nutrients they will spoil you with beautiful flowers and amazing colored leaves and overall textures. The diversity is enormous and some look as if they have arrived from a different world.
At the same time I tried to bring also more beauty and coziness into the casa. You will see new furniture for the fire place lounge and the kitchen. The bed rooms in the guest area look great with new bed heads supplementing the Boho style of the casa.
Together it really feels like home now after all the construction work going on during the last winter season.

The succulents in the pots look so amazing, colourful and lush….true artwork 🤩! Thank you for sharing your method of how to make them thrive by mixing the soil with sand etc…perma culture is such an interesting topic with plants and how to create interconnected, thriving and healthy gardens and beauty through it’s principles. The interconnectedness fascinates me and would be exciting to see how different succulents have done together in 6months time with the conditions you have in the Algarve. I am sure i am not the only one saying this, but this has been a very inspiring episode, Many thanks Ralph 😊!

Maybe I make another succulents video in 6 months, when many start flowering. Permaculture is an important topic and maybe I should have a special video about all aspects of it at a later time. 🥰

You have created a most wonderful sanctuary indeed! I loved the succulent and cacti dishes, so beautiful. And the reference to the Whiskey Bar and the Doors brought back good memories. My favorite group, the Doors. You certainly have a great artistic eye. And your workers are outstanding.
Regarding the holes on bottom of the pots, may I suggest you put small terracotta “feet” under the pots so are lifted up a bit and they will drain easier. The holes George drilled will help a lot.

Bom Dia Ralph, I was looking forward to the work on the cistern but you did one better in this video. This could be used in a relaxation therapy commercial. You are becoming a talented pilot with the drone and I like the distant views that formulate the setting where the casa is located. The views of the terrain and the succulents in contrast were delightful. The plantings look like art and I know that they have found a good home where they can thrive. Your choices of decoration and presentation inside the casa and outside match my view of your character since the way we see the world reflects what is coming from inside. And now I see Mark Knopfler may be one of your favorites. He and Bob Dylan have a lot to say in different ways. I'm glad I was here to experience their work and life. I'll be 81 by the time the next episode of Ralph's Adventures appears and it will be a present I know I will enjoy. Best wishes and health my friend. John

Sometimes it’s better to present a project outside of the normal constructions going on. Next time , for your birthday…!, I hope to present more updates on the cisterns finishing and first excavation work to build a wine cellar behind the cisterna. I have so many ideas still…, guess work for more than 2 years. It will all become so beautiful. 🤩

I live in the lower hills between Loulé and Boliqueime, but I love walking up in the Serra, and I recognise some of the hills where you are (I call the Serra "My Algarve"!).
