This is a wonderful theme tune. Goosebumps listening to this. Better times, free to watch english football.👍
Football would be dead in the water without the sky money.
@@scottfletcherr1457No it wouldn't . What would be dead though is the careers of a lot of very wealthy football agents, strangled at birth.
Football needs Sky like a smackhead needs smack.
It would be less fashionable, there probably wouldn’t be the oil nation club owners, there wouldn’t be players on £600,000 a week, I’m struggling to think of any downsides? Maybe less tv coverage?
@@ntube7less tv coverage wouldn't be so bad. Wall to wall saturation imo
This is my childhood at my Nan and Grandad's house. Great memories.
This is a proper football theme tune
You're telling me lol
IT’S IN THERRRRE!!!!
This should be broadcast to the nation when the Coronavirus ends.
I can confirm this tune is played as you leave the vacination centre after your first jab.
nice one !! worth clapping for
There's no better way to celebrate the end of the pandemic. 100% agree with you. This must be played.
@@simon943 Also bring back free to watch top level football (unfortunately that will never happen) well you can never say never but it’s very doubtful.
@@supertarantatikataka3313 With your coat handed to you by Elton Welsby.
This is by far the greatest football theme tune of all time!!!! 😁👍⚽
This and “you are the number 1!” And aztec!
Great memories, having this tune in your head as you grab a ball, your mates and head over to the park, when times seemed so much simpler
Back in the days when watching top tier football didn't cost you an arm and a fucking leg.
Alan West nice one Alan haha
+Alan West Oh come on, we're a welcoming bunch...
Yeah, and the quality of play was better too !!!
Back in the days when watching it on telly didn't cost anything at all!!! Before that capitalist twat Rupert Murdoch stuck his orr in.
@@andycross9840 very true. Some of the PL is on BBC every now and then but I wish all matches were on free to view TV
Without doubt a Football Match Theme Tune .That will never be forgotten
this and the Mexico 86 theme are top footy tunes.
ITV BRING THIS BACK!!! This would have been a glorious tune for this afternoon’s FA Cup match on ITV 🔥🔥🔥🔥
I fucking loved old school football
Pre premier league
It just had a completley different feel to it
People say the games faster and better now.
I agree, but I’d still take the old days back in a heartbeat
Moore, Parry, Welsby glory days
this is the theme tune i grew up on although my beloved liverpool were on the decline listening to it reminds me of the good old days on ITV saint and greavies on a saturday and than the big match with Elton welsby pre sky sports(they do a great job)
munear shabbir
PREACH!
This music actually stimulates the trauma I felt when Man Utd were on the rise past my Liverpool. But it's still one of if not the best ever tunes.
Not any more!!!!! No.6 and now no.19 finally comes home and 30 years of waiting...will....soon....be.....over.
loved the football theme tunes 1988 to 1992 loved watching footie on a saturday afternoon live on itv
I remember the Liverpool side watching Barnes, Rush, Aldridge and McMahon amongst many others and they were a joy to watch - listening to this song reminds me of going round to my grandad's house in the late 1980s to watch league football on terrestrial tv - I remember John Barnes scoring the winner against Tottenham at WHL - funny the things that stick in your mind.
Yeah, I often watched it at my nan and grandads. That 1987-88 Liverpool team were brilliant. Seemed to win by 3 or 4 goals every other game! Barnes, Beardsley, Aldridge, Houghton, McMahon. Ian Rush was actually playing for Juventus during this season.
The best performance of all that season must have been the 5-0 win over Nottm Forest in the spring. Forest were a good side then too. NOt a game shown live at the time - but a VHS was released showing the full game. Liverpool were awesome, especially in the first half. Steve McMahon was immense that evening.
legendary liverpool team..KING KENNY the boss
Used to watch with my Dad Sunday afternoons. It may be the nostalgia kicking in but football seemed more special and exciting then.
@@matthewturner2803 it was.
When Luton vs Notts County was a top flight fixture. Goals round-up was one of the best parts of the week as a kid.
Luton back to the top league now.
Still the greatest football TV theme of all time.
I’d say it’s on par with Aztec Gold that was a great theme to.
@@menditman2004 Aztec Gold for me any day.
This and “you are the number 1!” And Aztec yep.
...An era of proper football, proper commentators and real characters in the game!
The best football intro ever in my opinion and there has been some good ones !
They used to play this in the background of goals round ups too, with Elton Welsby commentating up our way...
Loved the highlights while this was played. Brian Moore was a great commentator.
Moore was the best, an absolute natural, and apparently a nice bloke too.
Yeah the the sliding credits, the slow motion footage and a smile from whoever scored (usually Brian McClair which would get on my nerves).
And the rocky music
Brian Moore will live long in the memory .As far as any form of sports commentary is concerned👍
@@shane-irish Yes! Elton Welsby would do a preview of the game using that as a bed, even if it was a humdrum mid-table match it would suddenly sound like Game of the Century ☺️
As a Liverpool fan this tune reminds me of that epic Arsenal title win at Anfield in 89. The gooner were class that year. Every match always showed the gooners lifter the title at Anfield. Cant be bitter about Arsenal. Great club.
Liverpool fan
We don't want your support
Class. Loved this. Brings back memories. Loved Brian Moore.
Oh this is such a classic. I can remember every Sunday afternoons. It was just so simple when football was still the game for the masses.
Fantastic tune. Bring back live top flight football to ITV.
Great memories, from a time when every patch of grass on every council estate was worn bare from kids playing football. The only time they fell quiet was when this theme tune came on the tele.
Now the grass has no bald patches, internet and social media took over☹️
Sunday February 14th 1988 Middlesbrough 2-1 Aston Villa..the first live second division game on ITV
This is brill. The music intro used to set me up for watching some class footie.
My favourite Footy show theme ever. As good as the others were, I feel this knocks them out of the park! One of the channels needs to resurrect this as their main coverage theme- I am looking at you ITV!
The graphics that followed this were amazing for their time as well. ITV went out with a package that knocked the BBC off their feet. The last days before SKY got their grubby mits on the top flight and others got European football.
...An era when football was for the true fans, when men with sensible names and sensible haircuts entertained crowds of cloth capped costermongers. Before top flight football sold its soul to the premiership then Sky and ripped the very heart out of the beautiful game!
Well said. I've always said this is when football was football
Absolutely.
Wow...such great memories. Wonderful times.
Flippin' heck! This tune takes me back to when I was a kid growing up in the 80s & 90s. And I still love it! Thanks for the upload. You're a legend!
This music could have easily been ITV's "Match of the Day" equivalent that would have stood the test of time. In the 90's and early 00's, ITV flitted around so much with their theme tunes between this, "You Are the Number One", and then another few other nondescript pieces! Same goes for the Boxing, when they brought it back (briefly), no idea why they did not use the original theme!
Always reminds me of Anfield 89 Liverpool v Arsenal title decider.
Reminds me of first year I watched football in 1991, being a Liverpool fan I had missed the glory years
Mark Waters me too I left Liverpool as an 8 year old to support Tottenham and this song reminds me of my first defeat against Pewl
There back lads
This takes me back
Nice to see a fellow cult of Cornette member out in the wild!
i really missed this intro, look at the crap you get today.
exactly they don't even come up with good theme music just over use urban chart shit , Murdoch has really sunk every cultural aspect of this country to bog standard.
They probably don't even employ bona fide musican's to score music just source it from some background music library or I tunes.
@@jasonfury1 god yes , the music now is lowest common denominator shit
And it's in there!!!!!
“Well it’s like climbing a mountain really. No one really fancies us outside of Highbury. But there’s no reason why we can’t come up here…so we will relax and hopefully get the goals that we need”
Less than two hours later
“Is that the final whistle?…Arsenal are the champions!”
I remember the match day programme's made especially for the television coverage you could get them in a newsagent and they would often have an illustration of the two most iconic players of each team that played that day.
I have an old football annual from back then, and there was an article in it debating the pros and cons of the amount of money that was starting to be spent on players. Some clubs had spent as much as a shocking million pounds on a player ...
They don't make great songs like this anymore.
I started watching football in '89...every Sunday I'd watch this and wait for the goals from the previous day. No Match of the Day back, for League football anyway. Great memories of being a kid, Liverpool were top dogs and i couldn't decide between Ian Rush and John Barnes as my favourite! Strange really, considering I'm an Evertonian.
Makes you feel old hearing this. Another Rod Argent classic. Thanks for uploading.
Wow, such feelings of joy just listening to this music...
This tune followed by Elton Welsby uttering the magic words "Your commentator from The City Ground this afternoon, Brian Moore". Football porn!
Brian Moore is immortal as far as football commentary is concerned
Proper old school, this is fantastic, i was about 8-9 when the premiership started but remember getting into footy when the old first division was still about, memories i wouldn't change for the world.
"It's up for grabs now!"
itv did the best football music
Brilliant theme. Brings back so many memories.
Used to love after the initial burst it took you live to the stadium.
Goosebumps what a fuckin introduction takes me rar back 😍🥰
Been looking for this for ages, I remember this well before Sky came in and took ITVs Big match live away! :)
Hello me 7 years ago, I’m still enjoying this banging theme today. See you in 7 again 😂 talking to my past self is madness.
Yes I remembered the music to the itv match football I watched leeds vs man utd on tv 1991 -1992 1st division
I still dream of netting to this music live on itv
I remember playing this song in my head before a school game and pretending to be Gascoigne
Peak George Graham at Arsenal! 1989 & 1991 🏆🏆
just class!!!
Best football theme of all time.
"the goals from yesterday are coming, get the tape ready"
When football was football!! Miss those days....
Love it!!! Reminds me of those great LIVERPOOL games.YNWA
Best ever theme tune for a live tv match
Best football intro ever ever ever ever
This tune is class.
classic footie tunes of the last decade awsome
Welsby, St John, Moore, Greaves, Parry and Tyler
Back in the days when watching a football match on a Sunday was special. School the next day.
Forgot all about this one. Excellent theme!
The Kingsley Black era.
I loved that program I looked forward to seeing which match they were going to show.
Ah man i love this ,remeber coming in from under 13's footy sunday afternoon and watching this. Elton Welsby legend!!
Oh my the match yes liked this music. Brings back memories of Saturdays
Great theme
I sometimes rock this whilst setting up my team in FC 24. 😅
This is what I'd hear at the ending montage of the live broadcast, when it was freezing cold outside, and you'd missed the first half, and were half crying because your team lost.
I miss the Match. Never forget Chelsea beating Man United 3 2 at Old Trafford in Nov 1990. Ian St John and Jimmy Greaves were legends.
Hey, I remember that one. I think it was a late penalty for Chelsea that won it
@@billkent6037 Yes Bill. A late Dennis Wise penalty won the match for Chelsea.
Loved this tune, reminds of the last few years of lfc dominating.... until now!!
Reminds me of the year Arsenal pipped them to the title 😂
“Arsenal come streaming forward now in surely what will be their last attack. A good ball by Dixon finding Smith, for Thomas charging through the Midfield Thomas its up for grabs now THOMASSSS right at the end. An unbelieveable climax to the league season.
Wow! Haven’t heard this for some time. Love to get it as a ringtone.
I've got it as mine!! 😃
The best ever
Loved this theme and loved the match on a sundays as a 7 year old
Great tune to listen to then switch to Italian Football ch4
It's was a good sport/football theme tune on ITV.
These were the days. No Moloko. No Kasabian. No Andy Gray fucking around with computer graphics. Just football. Give me "Division 1" over "The Premier League" anyday. Remember Brian Moore "AND IT'S IN THERE!!!" LOL
Yes i entirely agree with you .This is nothing but blatant greed and the government stand still make no effort to make an intervention
Class
villa 6 everton 2 1989 great days
Not for an Everton fan☹️ we were flying high at the time that game put pay to that. If I recall Poor Chris price got knocked out by a mile newell shot 🤕
I think I may still have the whole match on vhs,
Cracking game! It was 6-0 until Everton scored a couple of late goals - "it's comeback time" joked Ian St John
From the opening chords it seems their starting point was a remix of Aztec Gold.
Its the same guy but under a different name
@@bitcointradingtoday3454 I know.
The first few bars of this piece would have played over the blue skies and chrome ITV sport ident animation, the same one (at least in 1988, when this tune apparently debuted) that was used with the Aztec Gold titles, so a certain consistency was probably wanted.
In fact, try playing this audio track, while watching the graphics of the Mexico World Cup titles on mute - ua-cam.com/video/089OekaPrvQ/v-deo.html - fits extremely well! You could be onto something here...
I had this on a TV Themes Cassette.
Oh wow
When football was football
top100 footie theme tunes of the 80s era
About time this was on UA-cam. Ah reminds me of the good old days before football sold out to the evil greed of sky setanta espn and the latest money grabbing devil, BT Sports. Thank feck we can still watch the Champions League for free here in Ireland, jeez I really miss the old Division 1 games on bbc/it, especially on a Sunday with Brian Moore. God Bless him.
Anyone know where this be can downloaded? What a tune!!
From here with UA-cam premium
Agree totally - Elton and Bryan were The Match...the graphics predicted Sky's metallic flair, the synth riff chased that spinning turnstyle with orgasmic energy...
nb - the match, not the big match, which was from 70s/early 80s and not live!! ;)
Wednesday v Man Utd 91 league Cup final Brian Moore, Greavsie and this tune 👌
Oh the memories, particularly of my first North London derby, October 18th 1989, Vinny Samways and Paul Walsh scoring the goals as the scum were thrashed 2-1. Elton Welsby anchoring, the one and only Brian Moore commentating, football as it should be!
My God its Sunday afternoon again!! Been out with friends, Mums asking want we want forTea after our bath after back covered in mud from playing football down the field, then knowing theres school in the morning!!Seems a long time ago now!!
