Great video as always, was so smooth it makes me think I could actually ride this trail! Though I'd probably be going for a sub hour time rather than a sub 10 minute... 😒
Flyin' - I did it in 15 minutes and thought I was going along pretty quick. Noticed some young buck has dropped the KOM to 9:01?! Sub 9:00 would be impressive. Maybe if you took out the Revolver?
Another Great vid and Wow! What an effort! ...while still managing to be the friendliest and courteous mountain biker ever! 😂 Maybe not, but thought you used to ride clipped in... have you made a change? Also what kind of power meter do you use?
If you aren't smiling it's not worth riding! Surprisingly I've never even tried clips before, and at this point I probably never will due to the risks that are present on my usual rides. I use a 4iiii Podiiiium powermeter mounted to my XTR crank, it's been super rad provided I remember to calibrate it consistently haha.
I was thinking same even with all the traffic he killed it while not being a jerk ! He da man ! I recently watched a new magnetic pedal review looks great it moves with your foot. Seems like a good compromise. I’d love road bikes to go magnetic at some point 👍
Don't know what your maximum pulse rate is but I don't think your pulse rate monitor is providing correct data; you're still able to talk! :) Love your videos. Sound and image are just perfect
I don't understand how I'm able to talk when I'm that far into anaerobic either haha. But I can assure you that the numbers are correct! Recorded a max of 208 a few years back.
At 200 BPM, my heart will probably explode. LOL I have a question. The data that we see in the video, BPM, time, watts, etc. Are they added to the edit or is it an integral part of the video when recording? The bike computer sends the info directly to the camera? By the way, I got to know your channel while watching BCpov videos. During a ride you were doing with him, he had mentioned your channel. You really do a good job.
All of the data overlays are added in post. I wish it would be an integral part of the recording process as that would make my life much easier haha. Do you mean VanCan? I have met BCpov but we haven't ridden together. Appreciate the kind words either way!
Awesome! You must have been gassed at the end?! Team Average just finished a virtual Enduro on Franks and was super fun and challenging! Old school XC! Question for you what app and device do you use to time yourself? We found Strava to be sporadic with results and some of Us would do the segment only to be disappointed that the segment did not show up. Cheers!
Definitely didn't have much left at the end of this one! I saw a few of your efforts a couple of weeks back (maybe I'll see you on the trails!). I use a Wahoo Elemnt Bolt that is later uploaded to Strava. Phone recording was not accurate enough for my liking.
I know you got a bike check coming soon (you hinted this Sunday - no pressure!), so maybe I should have waited to ask this question. But since the topic was raised here, let me ask: how do you feel about the accuracy of the Bolt? I’ve been using Strava lately, and it’s a great motivator. But it’s maddeningly inconsistent paired with an iPhone. I see this run which you manually timed at 9:45 matches up nicely with the Strava KOM time. The Garbage time not so much (based on the time stamps on the video itself). So yeah, just general impressions about accuracy and consistency of the Bolt?
Don't cross your fingers for this Sunday, hopefully next Sunday...haha. Interesting topic. There are a few factors at play here: - GPS is inherently not perfectly accurate. There will always be some level of drift or tolerance in where it measures your position. I would expect this tolerance to be smaller in a device that places a higher priority on GPS accuracy (head unit vs cell phone). This definitely shows as being much more consistent/less drifty than my old phone. - Segments are defined by random users, and not everyone does this the same way. Some go road to road on the map, some go slightly cropped at the entrance and exit (to avoid getting "stuck" in the segment when you stop after a trail). It's not consistent, so you really have to know what you're measuring. - The longer the segment, the more accurate (percentage wise) recorded times are going to be. Anything around a minute long, especially over a short distance (like Garbage) is not going to be very reliable, regardless of device or segment definition. My video of Vic's shows a stopwatch based KOM pace on the Upper section, where on Strava it was almost 15 seconds back. Works both ways! I use my Bolt primarily for recording rides, route finding, and training with power. And for doing these effectively in a much more durable package, it has been phenomenal. Strava segments are certainly a rewarding bonus at times, but they aren't the reason I chose to upgrade!
Wow, thanks for the detailed reply! Much appreciated! I intuitively knew much of this, and wouldn’t expect any GPS tracker to be perfect, but it does seem like there would be better accuracy with the Bolt vs iPhone. Part 2 of question (feel free to give much briefer reply!) relates to route finding. Back when (just a few months ago ha ha!) I was scared to death to venture off any blue rated trail for fear of ending up out of my depth on a black (or worse), I was hugely frustrated while riding Bridle Path on Seymour. So many trails shooting off of that one that I was constantly stopping to pull out my phone and figure out where I was. I’m less worried about that particular problem now (blacks no longer paralyze me with fear!), but a good easy to read route finder in my cockpit would still be great for doing a bit more venturing off of my home mountain Burke. You are happy with the Bolt for this? Do you ever find yourself wanting something else on the market? Pretty sure I’ll be buying such a device in the next week or so, hence the question. And yup, you did say Feb 7 for the bike check! I was a little ahead of myself there. Cheers!
I've had no issues with the Wahoo for route finding. Just draw what you want to do at home and sync it before you ride, easy peasy. Garmin does have some level of live Trailforks routing, but it's only as reliable as the Trailforks map itself (and how well everything was "snapped" together). Anything is better than a phone!
How accurate is the Ride aligned size recommendation? I'm 5'9 and it's recommending a large Sight 29. I've never ridden a large in anything before and the Sight 29 is already a long bike. Any concerns there you think?
I went from a 2018 Medium Optic to a 2020 Large 27.5" Sight (as recommended by Ride Aligned) and it suits me quite well! I am 5'8.5". The longer bike helps with descending rougher trails, but the biggest thing is the improved weight balance front to rear. I would say it works quite well!
I'm 5'9.5" and on the medium, and I'm very happy. Though I am definitely a very fringe case of sizing preference, enjoying a much smaller bike. Most people around my height (like @Viper) are happiest on the large.
@@DaleStone @vipperrules24 Thanks for the info guys, much appreciated. I'd go demo them but the whole Covid situation hasn't been great for wanting to be out in public. I appreciate the input!
Your heart rate was at 200bpm and you were out of breath but you still said thank you and have a good night to people like you were completely normal 😭
Good thing you only called out for Ryder twice in a row because if you'd said it a third time he would've materialized behind ya and snatched up that KOM.
Hell of a run Dale! Nice work. That send at 6:30 with the little table you threw was some great teez
That was pretty hilarious to watch back haha. 😂
I ride that trail every time I go there just love it , you did great timing on it 🤟
I suppose it is popular for a reason!
Like watching your videos. Very raw, Luv the sound of tires in the dirt and the video quality is excellent!
Cheers Rocky!
Who says you don’t go hard haha! You absolutely destroy ever trail that I’ve watched you ride! Another really great video man! Keep on crushing trails
A few friends have called me out for never breathing hard. You know who you are... 👀
Dale Stone probably just in better shape haha
Haahaa, you never disappoint; and also the bell 🤩🤩🤩
So glad having you filming again - Go Dale 🔥🔥🔥
Btw: Awesome run 🚀🚀🚀
Gordon Bennett! My heart rate is high just watching that. Great video 👍
Me too haha, thanks!
I love the videos. Great quality and the silence is golden 👌. I love hearing the bike and the trail versus some crappy music.
Thanks TJ! I'll try to keep the bike running quietly, but no promises haha.
@@DaleStone Hey hearing the bike is awesome! One of my favorite UA-camrs!

Cam is insane. I think I could do a 9:15 in peak shape on the Revolver, but he's untouchable!
Great winter nights with lights trail, fun with a crew.
Nothing like a good shinning to start your day. Ouch.
Tell me about it, had to take a rest day after this one since it swelled quite nicely.
Damn, my vision would have been blurry and extremeties numb if my heartrate was over 190 for that long. Good work!
Thanks! Felt surprisingly good other than some sloppy lines towards the end.
My follow cam version includes a rare clickbait-y “Dale Stone Haircut/Moustache Reveal!”.

Of course! Though not in any official lab setting. Looks to be around 270W.

Depends on how long your limbs are too. If you are able to test ride a medium as well as the large definitely give it a shot.
Do you actually have a power meter on your bike or are those values estimated?
Actually have one! Satisfies the nerd in me.
Your heart rate was at 200bpm and you were out of breath but you still said thank you and have a good night to people like you were completely normal 😭
Never an excuse not to! 🙂
Is this one of the trails Burke is losing?
I believe so, at least the lower half. Check with TORCA.
Good thing you only called out for Ryder twice in a row because if you'd said it a third time he would've materialized behind ya and snatched up that KOM.
Maybe Ryder is instead the name of the bear that frequents Frank's, who smiles and waves at all the passers by?
@@DaleStone Does he wear a lot of flannel? Might be a grizzle...
What program are you using to edit and put in the HR/power?
A solid mix of Excel, Word, and Notepad. Then drag and drop straight into the timeline. It's a long story...
Dale Stone well i appreciate it, looks good!
How much real travel do you think the bike should have to go down this trail? Can 100mm XC do this one?
I know people who have done it on rigid gravel bikes, but I wouldn't recommend that haha.
@@DaleStone what do you think is a good amount of travel for this types of trail?
I would prefer at least 100mm on both sides, but you could get away with less.
