      @SwitchAndLever  8 років тому +7

      Not at all. It's almost always with me in the small front pocket on my jeans. I had it when riding the board in the end of the video as well, just not visible due to camera angle.

    That overlay of the model on the board at 6:40 was a really nice touch! I appreciate the extra work that must have been to track on for just a few seconds of the video.

    hahaha I wanted to do this exactly because I really really want a penny but I want something harder and more durable and more eco friendly than plastic, but I had no idea how to start or how do you even build a board and this helped so much!! I shall try this out! thank you so much and I hope your finger is ok!

      They roll nice, the wheels have held up just fine, quite frankly, don't feel any difference from actual Penny Board trucks, they just lack the brand name stamped into them. I'm not really an elitist, so as long as it rolls without resistance, I'm happy.

    • @pieterjhoek9815
      @pieterjhoek9815 8 років тому +13

      +Switch & Lever right on man, in the end it's all about fun!

    • @SwitchAndLever
      @SwitchAndLever  4 роки тому +5

      @skate progression well akshually, as a maker who doesn't care about or support elitism I honestly couldn't care less. 😉

    • @SwitchAndLever
      @SwitchAndLever  4 роки тому +7

      @skate progression just because I enjoy rolling down the road on a skateboard doesn't mean I make it part of my identity. I can enjoy driving my car without becoming a car nut too. You can be a casual enjoyer of things, it's fine. I honestly doubt I would notice enough difference to care between "actual trucks" and these. I really just don't care enough. If they roll fine they're good enough for me.

    You should make a skateboard making kit by giving a ready made mold and everything already cut I know I would buy it and I'm not the only one

    • @SwitchAndLever
      @SwitchAndLever  8 років тому

      Really? I somewhat doubt people would pay the approx $50 in materials, and $90 in shipping it would cost (to the US), for something like that. And that's not even putting any profit or payment for my time into it. It would likely be more over $300 a kit if I did. Instead, go to Roarockit (who I mention several times in the video), get their veneers and their vacuum bag system. You can get the styrofoam required to use with it from any hardware store, and it will be much much cheaper.

      With the amount of labor, material, sales tax, and a small profit, it would be around $1000, and even that is counting fairly low. That's why I don't sell the things I make, the time spent making it can never be recuperated into something which makes it worth it in money.

    Excellent Tutorial, i made a freestyle deck way back in 1991, using roughly the same method, but my deck has a concave along the lengt, and both a high nose and tail.. instead of veneer, you can also use 2mm birch plywood.. 4-5 layers will suffice depending on the length of your board.. and, with a plane, you could always take a layer off

    beautiful looking board! the only thing i would recommend would be to make the nose not as pointy, and put a slight curve in the middle of the board for a little more comfort while riding... and to look badass.

    • @SwitchAndLever

      It's pretty comfortable even without the curve. I know the point isn't ideal, but I it's held up pretty well, and I haven't crashed into people with it, so it's pretty alright. Cheers!

    • @SwitchAndLever
      @SwitchAndLever  8 років тому +3

      "One of these boards", there's just the one, and I'm not parting with it just for views, and it would break my heart watching them more or less tear it apart in the park. Since skater kids (not meaning any offense at all, but it's mainly younger people already interested in skating who subscribe to their channel) are not my main audience, I doubt many would stick around on my channel even if they'd gave a shout out. Given sufficient inspiration I may just make a way crazier board and send to them though.

      +OlympicFilms you can do it in different ways. Personally I'd put it in between the varnish layers, after the first layer. It gives a smoother surface for the paint or stickers to adhere to, easier to mask and less risk of bleeding under the masking if you're painting. Then just seal it in with the remaining layers of varnish.

    Very cool! as always nice graphics and explanations!. I guess you had to chamfer the upper part of the kicktail by hand right? :) heal well!

      +Cactus! workshop Not at all, since the router has the same diameter whether you're feeding it material horizontally or vertically I could just stand it on its side for those hard to reach areas. As long as you have a steady hand the fillet comes out perfectly fine.

      This video is four years old, so yes, it very much has healed by now and I indeed have a scar. Scars are not a bad thing. I have many.

    Use a bit of superglue to seal shallow cuts in your skin. Stings like hell while it dries, but you won't have the irritating band aid getting in your way.

      +Sten Eriksson This was not shallow though, but rather deep, somewhere around 1.5cm into my thumb. For shallow cuts I would recommend not using anything at all, blood coagulates fast, and the scab is nature's bandage.
