Not at all. It's almost always with me in the small front pocket on my jeans. I had it when riding the board in the end of the video as well, just not visible due to camera angle.
That overlay of the model on the board at 6:40 was a really nice touch! I appreciate the extra work that must have been to track on for just a few seconds of the video.
hahaha I wanted to do this exactly because I really really want a penny but I want something harder and more durable and more eco friendly than plastic, but I had no idea how to start or how do you even build a board and this helped so much!! I shall try this out! thank you so much and I hope your finger is ok!
you prolly dont give a damn but does anybody know of a way to get back into an instagram account? I was stupid forgot the login password. I would appreciate any assistance you can give me.
@Skyler Kohen Thanks for your reply. I found the site on google and I'm in the hacking process now. Looks like it's gonna take a while so I will reply here later with my results.
What the hell man this thing looks extremely high quality if i was you i would sell that thing for like 300$ at least haha , Amazing job you did there!
Without knowing better I would quess you are Swedish based on your accent and specialy the way you say "just". Awesome and very good looking video btw!
They roll nice, the wheels have held up just fine, quite frankly, don't feel any difference from actual Penny Board trucks, they just lack the brand name stamped into them. I'm not really an elitist, so as long as it rolls without resistance, I'm happy.
@skate progression just because I enjoy rolling down the road on a skateboard doesn't mean I make it part of my identity. I can enjoy driving my car without becoming a car nut too. You can be a casual enjoyer of things, it's fine. I honestly doubt I would notice enough difference to care between "actual trucks" and these. I really just don't care enough. If they roll fine they're good enough for me.
I remember watching this when I was a teen and it inspired me to attempt at making my own board, never did but I just remembered it so I thought I’d comment it 👍
Really? I somewhat doubt people would pay the approx $50 in materials, and $90 in shipping it would cost (to the US), for something like that. And that's not even putting any profit or payment for my time into it. It would likely be more over $300 a kit if I did. Instead, go to Roarockit (who I mention several times in the video), get their veneers and their vacuum bag system. You can get the styrofoam required to use with it from any hardware store, and it will be much much cheaper.
The finished board was beautiful. I'm glad you didn't paint the underside, and hide the gorgeous grain. I wish I had the tools to make my own boards. I'd love to make a penny/cruiser type, as my hand me down fiber-flex I've had since I was a kid will probably break if I keep riding it.
This skateboard deck build video quickly turned into a utility knife safety PSA. lol. Also, I really loved it! Makes me want to try and make a deck of my own! Thanks!
I worked at a skate shop when I was like 15 and we used a file to cut the grip tape, just file right through it to the wood, really secures the edge from peeling up
With the amount of labor, material, sales tax, and a small profit, it would be around $1000, and even that is counting fairly low. That's why I don't sell the things I make, the time spent making it can never be recuperated into something which makes it worth it in money.

send me the $1000 and I will make one and send it back minus the blood.
Excellent Tutorial, i made a freestyle deck way back in 1991, using roughly the same method, but my deck has a concave along the lengt, and both a high nose and tail.. instead of veneer, you can also use 2mm birch plywood.. 4-5 layers will suffice depending on the length of your board.. and, with a plane, you could always take a layer off
beautiful looking board! the only thing i would recommend would be to make the nose not as pointy, and put a slight curve in the middle of the board for a little more comfort while riding... and to look badass.
It's pretty comfortable even without the curve. I know the point isn't ideal, but I it's held up pretty well, and I haven't crashed into people with it, so it's pretty alright. Cheers!
What a great project. I love bent laminate glue ups. Thanks for the public service announcement too... although I should have watched it a year ago :-)
+John Traner clear varnish would be the easiest, but you may need to remove the grip tape first. Make sure you use an outdoor varnish, ones made for the boat industry tend to be especially durable.
Switch & Lever: *stabs thumb* Switch & Lever voice over: Yeahhhhhh......so don't do what I did. NBD Switch & Lever: *continues building board* Me: I have to like this video now.
+Lazy watchsmith I may make myself a longboard as well, as I have a stack of unused veneer. I was thinking of replacing the middle veneer with carbon fiber though, for the extra strength.
Oh man please send one of these boards to Braille. I'm pretty sure they have only ridden a plastic penny and nickel boards in their vids and they would give you a huge shout out for your channel.
"One of these boards", there's just the one, and I'm not parting with it just for views, and it would break my heart watching them more or less tear it apart in the park. Since skater kids (not meaning any offense at all, but it's mainly younger people already interested in skating who subscribe to their channel) are not my main audience, I doubt many would stick around on my channel even if they'd gave a shout out. Given sufficient inspiration I may just make a way crazier board and send to them though.
+OlympicFilms you can do it in different ways. Personally I'd put it in between the varnish layers, after the first layer. It gives a smoother surface for the paint or stickers to adhere to, easier to mask and less risk of bleeding under the masking if you're painting. Then just seal it in with the remaining layers of varnish.
+Cactus! workshop Not at all, since the router has the same diameter whether you're feeding it material horizontally or vertically I could just stand it on its side for those hard to reach areas. As long as you have a steady hand the fillet comes out perfectly fine.
My heart broke when you got hurt. You are doing something for people to learn and this happens to you with all your heart that your finger heals and you do not have a scar
hey this video is really good becasue im hoping i can be a joiner when im older and love making stuff out of wood. going to give it try thanks man i subscribed straight away keep it up!!!
Use a bit of superglue to seal shallow cuts in your skin. Stings like hell while it dries, but you won't have the irritating band aid getting in your way.
+Sten Eriksson This was not shallow though, but rather deep, somewhere around 1.5cm into my thumb. For shallow cuts I would recommend not using anything at all, blood coagulates fast, and the scab is nature's bandage.
I love you don't hide your mistakes, makes for a very honest video and always interesting at that!
+Kyle B Never ever! if I screw up you'll know about it, I'm a firm believer of showing the mistakes and how to fix them, even when they hurt.
+Switch & Lever Maybe you were hiding you riding the skateboard with the utility knife.
+Enriconism Haha! Yeah, that was more work than I care to admit. Glad someone caught it!
Those animations really took the video to the next level!
Also, I love how you end each sentence with the exact same tone of voice, haha.
Very nicely done! I like how you used some bolts to lift the board when you applied the finish, very clever. I hope your thumb is ok!
WoW it's you! thanks for a video about a longboard I made it, it's cool;)

This beautiful hipster man makes me want to have a shop in my future home.. 10 years from now, considering that I’m 14...
the knife!!!!! the humor about the knife was key to this video!!!
Haha. The Stab announcement was amazing xD Sub+Like
hahaha I wanted to do this exactly because I really really want a penny but I want something harder and more durable and more eco friendly than plastic, but I had no idea how to start or how do you even build a board and this helped so much!! And that kids is why you always point the knife away from you.
Always a pleasure to watch your projects and work! The candor and fun you bring to it makes them terrific. Thanks, ~PJ
Really cool build! Came out awesome!
you prolly dont give a damn but does anybody know of a way to get back into an instagram account?
I was stupid forgot the login password. I would appreciate any assistance you can give me.
@Ricky Dominik Instablaster ;)
@Skyler Kohen Thanks for your reply. I found the site on google and I'm in the hacking process now.
Looks like it's gonna take a while so I will reply here later with my results.
@Skyler Kohen It did the trick and I now got access to my account again. I am so happy!
Thank you so much, you saved my account :D
@Ricky Dominik happy to help =)
This video need more views! So well edited and great quality!!! Probably the best tutorial on youtube😜
+Anton Stange feel free to share it with all you know :)
+Switch & Lever just a question are you from europe?👍🏼
You forgot AvE's advice: Cut towards your chun, not your thumb!
+GEORGE ZARIFIS I thought it was 'chum' as in your friend ?
Who knows what AvE is really saying!
John Creasey
Well, I've never seen it written, so it must be chum...
+GEORGE ZARIFIS "no es bueno"
check out my video about panel stickers 😀
This video was very informative, the attention to detail was excellent and i think im ready to try this myself with my grandfather
glare at the wonderful thing you've made "a bent piece of plywood ...
go ahead, try and bend a regular piece of plywood
That looks so much fun! Thanks for sharing it with us!! Support from Kosovo!
the stab part is the best
I actually grabbed my thumb during the PSA.
Wow that looks like a professional skateboard haha. Amazing job!
+- Steff - thank you!
What the hell man this thing looks extremely high quality if i was you i would sell that thing for like 300$ at least haha , Amazing job you did there!
300 lol. a regular board is between 50 and 75
That was a gnarly one! Great recovery and awesome project! Cheers, Chris.
OUCH! But hey, a little blood offering always makes things work better.
+Merlin Magnus Sometimes you have to honor the gods with a small offering. All attempts to summon the skateboard gods of old failed, however.
Without knowing better I would quess you are Swedish based on your accent and specialy the way you say "just". Awesome and very good looking video btw!
Have been all my life!
Such a shame, all that hard work, a great board, and then shitty components on the bottom. Great video though.
They roll nice, the wheels have held up just fine, quite frankly, don't feel any difference from actual Penny Board trucks, they just lack the brand name stamped into them. I'm not really an elitist, so as long as it rolls without resistance, I'm happy.
+Switch & Lever right on man, in the end it's all about fun!
@skate progression well akshually, as a maker who doesn't care about or support elitism I honestly couldn't care less. 😉
@skate progression they're four years old by now and holding up just fine 🙂
I remember watching this when I was a teen and it inspired me to attempt at making my own board, never did but I just remembered it so I thought I’d comment it 👍
You should make a skateboard making kit by giving a ready made mold and everything already cut I know I would buy it and I'm not the only one
Really? I somewhat doubt people would pay the approx $50 in materials, and $90 in shipping it would cost (to the US), for something like that. And that's not even putting any profit or payment for my time into it. It would likely be more over $300 a kit if I did. Switch & Lever u are penis
that knife cut was scary. stay safe man. love your work
Made with sweat and blood !
Amazing video ! Thanks :D
Awesome animations!
That deserves a like in the first minute.
Not mentioning you made an awesome skateboard! 👍🏻
That blade went all the way in. Omg dude.
That looked crazy
The finished board was beautiful. I'm glad you didn't paint the underside, and hide the gorgeous grain. I wish I had the tools to make my own boards. I'd love to make a penny/cruiser type, as my hand me down fiber-flex I've had since I was a kid will probably break if I keep riding it.
This video was so good! Thanks
You are ever so welcome!
Great build! Ahhh I did that with a razor blade a couple months ago too... went so deep it cut a groove in my fingernail too
de very next deyyy
:)
Great sense of humor.Well done.
At 6:27 i died laughing :) :)
Nice board man! Great video!
Ouch! That was a deep cut! :(
when
12:05 and onwards, but don't say I didn't warn you!
+Switch & Lever o my gosh!!!
That was deeeeeeeeeeepppppp!!!
Indeed, but with a very sharp knife. It missed the bone and while it was a hassle to work with my hands for a while after it's healed up just fine.
yes
the burn marks actually makes the board look cooler in my opinion great video
+Sawyer Shin Gaming it also makes it go faster, like flames on hot rods.
the moment I is saw that knife and that position i had a bad feeling.
Why didn't you speak up then? You could have saved this mans thumb damn it!
+The Mod Shop he wouldn't have learnt otherwise lol
Show must go on, huh? Thanks for the video, and the PSA!
aiii that cut looks painfull ... yikes
This skateboard deck build video quickly turned into a utility knife safety PSA. lol. Also, I really loved it! Makes me want to try and make a deck of my own! Thanks!
More like a “use the right tool for the job” psa 😉
eh too much work ill just buy one
Ana Bonilla
Yh lol
Ana Bonilla lol same
Ana Bonilla lazy
Ana Bonilla don't get a cheap one there rubbish.
its called a cruiser
I hope your thumb got better! I clicked the like button because, well, why not? I figured out at last how to curve the wood. Thanks!
+Yusuf Ahmed thank you! Every like helps!
+Switch & Lever that went deep!
Does any one els have a tingling feeling in there finger after that razor blade part
I worked at a skate shop when I was like 15 and we used a file to cut the grip tape, just file right through it to the wood, really secures the edge from peeling up
Can i have that board
If you're willing to pay for it, sure.
Have you done a wooden skateboard
And what do it cost
With the amount of labor, material, sales tax, and a small profit, it would be around $1000, and even that is counting fairly low. That's why I don't sell the things I make, the time spent making it can never be recuperated into something which makes it worth it in money.
send me the $1000 and I will make one and send it back minus the blood.
you got me at the public announcement ,subscribed! amazing job!
Too much, too much
literally could have cut out the penny board shape out of an old deck and use any trucks/wheels besides those
This needs wayyyy more views this is a great vid
Feel free to share it with everyone you know. Thanks!
instructions were not clear I put my hand under the lawn mower
Stfu
not even funny
Nice video !!! informative and inspiring !!!
You really shed your blood for this brother.. :)
Awesome build, a great one for spring indeed. I hope your thumb heals up, ouch!
+Andrew Klein Slow by slow it's healing. Going to have a nice scar to remind me though.

I really enjoy your creativity, another great project!
Nice build! Simple and brilliant!
I really appreciate your humble dedication to the public service announcement.
Your shop looks crispy fresh!
+Glass Impressions It's wonderful when the weather is nice, for sure. Huge windows opening up towards a little bit of forest and a huge lake.
"I don't have to tell you how much it would suck if you glued your mold shut" Too funny.
You have talent dude 👌👌👍👍👍
I want this skateboard! I fell in love with this skateboard!
I like the new workshop!
+Inspire To Make Indeed, it is pretty great! While it doesn't have all the machinery of the old one, it's much much lighter!
Yeh that deserves a big thumbs up.
Very nice wood penny board, and thanks for sharing your know how
What a great project. I love bent laminate glue ups. Thanks for the public service announcement too... although I should have watched it a year ago :-)
+SugarcreekForge I will forever remember this video, and I'm quite glad I caught it on tape!
I wonder how man injuries will be prevented because of this video. Good stuff!!
Thank you for this detailed video. God bless 😊🙏🏻❤
you had me hooked at "Respect the power of utility knives"
Fantastisk kanal med kreativa lösningar. Tyvärr låter du lite som en robot när du pratar. Men vem bryr sig, det är kvalitet på det du gör.
If only I had a workshop like yours ;) :D)) wow, I could make the earth!
All what's left to do is to get all that great tools and machines. And working space.
Or get access to one already existing, like one at a Techshop or Maker Space, Fab Lab or whatever they may be called in your neck of the woods.
The one dislike was the person who didn't finish watching the video to see the full power of a utility knife.
wow deck from scratch, nice!
yeeesh watching that utility knife go....yeughsloaw *shivers*
dude that is sick as hell I wish I has 1 of those
Jesus, that was quite the stab! Great tutorial.
I was taught from a young age never to do things half assed, I guess that applies to stabbing myself too.
Thank you . This was very interesting to watch.
Great video, but i have a longboard already, and i LOVE it. Would you have an idea of how to water proof the longoard?
+John Traner clear varnish would be the easiest, but you may need to remove the grip tape first. Make sure you use an outdoor varnish, ones made for the boat industry tend to be especially durable.
Switch & Lever: *stabs thumb*
Switch & Lever voice over: Yeahhhhhh......so don't do what I did. NBD
Switch & Lever: *continues building board*
Me: I have to like this video now.
Great video! Thanks for posting!
Nice one.
I need to make me a new longboard. I thin I use fiberglass this time to add some strenght.
+Lazy watchsmith I may make myself a longboard as well, as I have a stack of unused veneer. I was thinking of replacing the middle veneer with carbon fiber though, for the extra strength.
I actually cut my palm with the flat end of a bastard file last night while working on my mini VMC project. Even the dull tools will get ya!
+Chris DePrisco So that's why they're called a bastard file.
Oh man please send one of these boards to Braille. I'm pretty sure they have only ridden a plastic penny and nickel boards in their vids and they would give you a huge shout out for your channel.

Л
u just gave me the best idea to make a fingerboard press mold!
I'm assuming if you want to add a graphic to the board you add that before the varnish
Very cool! as always nice graphics and explanations!. I guess you had to chamfer the upper part of the kicktail by hand right? :) heal well!
+Cactus! workshop Not at all, since the router has the same diameter whether you're feeding it material horizontally or vertically I could just stand it on its side for those hard to reach areas. As long as you have a steady hand the fillet comes out perfectly fine.
+Switch & Lever true that! thanks!
This video was really, really awesome.
My heart broke when you got hurt. You are doing something for people to learn and this happens to you with all your heart that your finger heals and you do not have a scar
This video is four years old, so yes, it very much has healed by now and I indeed have a scar. Scars are not a bad thing. I have many.
I like how you were just saying the rest of the steps with both of your hands covered in blood lol
Awsome build!!
cool job as usual. ciao!
hey this video is really good becasue im hoping i can be a joiner when im older and love making stuff out of wood. going to give it try thanks man i subscribed straight away keep it up!!!
"Let us now apply the grip tape, and don't pay too much attention to my bloody fingers as I say to do so" xD but anyways great job on the board man!
When we used to deliver large console TVs, our boss would always tell us; "Remember, skin grows back, cabinet doesn't."
+tom7601 I move pianos and often give the same advice to my team! My fingers have intervened in many fights between pianos and doorframes...
+tom7601 Entire fingers, however, doesn't!
that PSA is the most legitimate PSA ever
you have the worlds coolest beard
Use a bit of superglue to seal shallow cuts in your skin. Stings like hell while it dries, but you won't have the irritating band aid getting in your way.
+Sten Eriksson This was not shallow though, but rather deep, somewhere around 1.5cm into my thumb. For shallow cuts I would recommend not using anything at all, blood coagulates fast, and the scab is nature's bandage.
Hi, nice project. What brand/model is your bandsaw? . Thanks. Keep your fingers safe!!
great project nicely done
