And, I'm astounded that you have had such success on your very first make-from-scratch pattern - you look utterly gorgeous in it. I think the bigger eyelets add a bit of a punk edge to it which contrasts perfectly with the feminine fabric. Yes please, more videos of you sewing please Ashley. Thanks for ALL your incredible work, take gentle care xx

I used the time she hasn't posted anything to rewatch all of her videos. Was really cool to look at her developement and how she becomes more and more mindfull and reflexive. It's so joyous and encouraging to see!

Some day in thirty years Ashley is gonna have her own fashion boutique in NYC or London and once in a while fans from her channel drop by to buy clothes and talk about their lives to her and she'll give you advice on not only clothing but also your life like a big sister
I've watched this so many times now. Like the music and the video itself is so aesthetically pleasing. I don't think i'm ever gonna get tired of watching this video over and over again
Tips from a self taught sewing person: -watch as many tutorials as you can for all specific elements in your project like an invisible zipper -buy second hand curtains and tablecloth’s to practice on -don’t be afraid to change your plans if something goes wrong -always buy more fabric than you need to, you can always make smaller projects out of the leftovers Have a nice day😁
OMG that's so pretty. I would really like to see it as a series trying to sew different style clothes. I really want to learn sewing because I love altering my clothes.
me: sees "silk charmeuse" me: dies the dress turned out great! that fabric is so pretty and i felt your struggle with the eyelets i found that heavier fabric is usually better for those otherwise it's a pain. also are those butterflies in your hair?? absolutely delightful 10/10 good looks
That speech pattern is what I like to call "Pandemic slur." It is a dialect of English perpetuated from self isolation and forgetting how to English in the absence of peers.
A little advise. When you start getting mad, stop sewing. I've been sewing for 10 years and I have ruined so many things bc I kept sewing after I started to get frustrated 😂
I have this same rule for myself. When I get frustrated and continue to sew I almost always sew something on the wrong side and then cry while I take another hour of my life ripping seams. 😂 I was crying laughing during the zipper crisis because that was me my entire first year sewing haha
I honestly am so happy i stumbled upon Ashley's channel, shes so underated and she makes me feel better about how fuckin awkward i am. Her vids always lift my mood and shes the person on the internet i relate the most too. Love ya :))))

Hannah Wicks But that’s so smart! In my own experience you can get terrified to work with a fabric too expensive. Old fabrics are usually of better quality and have memories attached to them!
Oh honey...! Go get yourself a zig-zag foot (to overcast edges if you don't have a serger), a zipper foot, a seam ripper, and some cheap fabric that you can do a test-run with before cutting into your beautiful dress fabric. There are lots of well-stocked notions stores on the same block and north (take the back lobby exit out of the Mood building) with EVERY SEWING THING you could possibly need. Thank goodness the dress fit. Nothing is more discouraging or kills the joy of sewing, more than seeing your time and $ go down the drain. Take care of your gifting. ❤️
Every budding seamstress(seamster for those sewing males) NEEDS a Sewing Big Sister or, as I had, a Sewing Godfather!(Godmother? Godparent?! Ooph!) What luck that you're local and willing to hand out helpful tips like this! It's so kind of you to share your knowledge.
@@nicischmidt7572 So glad to help. Also, there are plenty of reasonably-priced fabric and trim stores within a 2-block radius of Mood, where I'm sure a tiny-floral vintage-y silk print is waiting for her. Bring a foldable shopping caddy with wheels if you go. You're going to buy more than you thought...👗
can everyone just appreciates how much effort and time she puts in to this video. like the editing, the filming process, THE FREAKING SEW PROCESS, editing this video... everything is just perfection
Ahh roaches in NYC. You can’t escape them - lol. I live in NYC too and had a small roach problem. Go to Home Depot and buy caulk and some roach bait. The best way ( I find) is to prevent roaches from coming in so caulk any holes you see. Lay down some roach bait to kill the suckers. This is mostly around pipes - think sink! Love your videos and welcome to the neighborhood!
N P Mansplaining is sort of like someone who wrote a paragraph about engineering in 5th grade explaining engineering to an engineer. Usually they arent even right about what they explained, or they're just being a smartass about it.
i was literally thinking omg she hasnt sewn in 10 years and she chose SILK CHARMEUSE...LOL im glad you found a way that works cause I can't even imagine how difficult it was
As a christening gown designer and seamstress, I cringed for you when I realised you were using satin.... for your first proper sew!! It’s one of the more difficult fabrics to sew. Well done 👍
ok pro tips from 11 years of experience: -use gemtac/fray check/some kind of glue for the eyelets, it will stop them falling out -get the right goddamn foot it will make your life a million times easier -get the right goddamn needle it will stop you fucking up your nice fabric -MAKE A MOCKUP JESUS CHRIST -press every seam. Press them. If you don't have an iron, buy one. PRESS YOUR SEAMS. -prewash fabric. PREWASH IT. IT WILL SHRINK IF YOU DON'T. -paying attention to the grainline is cripplingly important and it will punish you if you get lazy about it -never sew when you're hungry/tired/need the loo/frustrated. You will make mistakes and it will all just get infinitely more awful. Just do yourself a favour and don't do it. -Omg buy a seam ripper please i've done the whole needle and scissors combo and it's fucking miserable. buy four seam rippers. You will lose them. -I couldn't see what kind of seam finishes you did (I'm assuming you *did* finish your seams) so here's just a gentle reminder to finish your seams. No raw seams. NONE. They will unravel. Gentle reminder to finish your hem properly as well and by that I don't just mean turning it up once. If you can see a raw, fraying edge, it's not finished. Hope that helps anyone starting out. EDIT: i am aggressive because sewing is my one true love and enthusiasm makes me sweary. Sorry.
KB Smith the best way to finish seams is with a serger, but you can also use a zigag/overlock stitch on your machine! Or do a fancy french/flat felled seam to tuck everything in neatly
the most accomplished sewing i have ever done it a pillow case when i was 9, and the people at the class at joans did not explain to me what finishing a seam meant, so the whole thing fell apart in like a week.
Ah this is such a reminder to just everyone who may or may not read this that life goes through ups and downs, and don’t feel obligated to be on someone else’s time. Literally take time to heal and do the inner work 💓💓💓
Something my mom does when sewing: she uses a white pencil to outline the pattern on the fabric after she pins it down and then leaves 1/2 inch of fabric around the pattern when she cuts it. This way you have a bit more room to adjust the fit. After it's all put together you can cut off the excess easily. :)
You can change the eyelets that are coming out to button holes! Also... I highly recommend getting a rotary cutter and cutting mat. It saves so much time.
The only reason, why I wanna sew my own clothes, is because when someone asks you "Where did you get that" and you can reply "I made it", that's the BIGGEST FLEX IN THE UNIVERSE.
I have the opposite, fear that if I say that, they’ll immediately start scrutinizing the hell out of the thing I’m wearing.

And she did that while she's all by herself in the global center of a fucking pandemic while also managing projects on the side! All I want to say is, you're doing your best Ashley and we love you for this. Please take care of yourself and ffs, start eating something if you're going to pull in so much work in a few days!
PS Love the dress and the entire process, obviously. You're fucking awesome
YES! Quality over quantity, always! 🙌
Oh my gosh, yes. All of this!!!
You're right. Ashley works so hard 😍
couldn’t have said it better🥰
AND HER FUCKING DESCRIPTIONS OMG omg theyre amazing
They probably thought you were a 20-something hip fashion student, too
ashley is a lost disney princess in that dress, dont try to tell me otherwise.
agreed
*yes*
Otherwise 🤭
The Noobest Girl wow lol
Here for that!
Truly didn’t think I could love Ashley more... and then she showed us her piñata montage
i never would have guessed that she has a sister. she has only child vibes
She’s mentioned her sister before, although it was quite a depressing way
Why do i get this comment SO FREAKING WELL
she's had deep talks about her sister before if you look through her older videos
how had she talked about her sister before? :o
@@boilingsoda what did she say about her?

who else would wanna watch ashley make the strawberry dress from scratch ?
i think that's gon be a lil too hard but i think she'd look great in it tho
Yes!! Maybe even a piece inspired from the strawberry dress or an outfit styled based on it!
omg yes!
would DEFINITELY love to see this turn into a series!
This is why Ashley's my favorite. Not only is the editing sequence here hands down the best I've seen by her, but Editing Ashley also pops on to grace us with her cute-ass piñata slides in the middle of the video. Like, seriously girl, the level of extraness & dedication to ur vids is high-key commendable. We stan Ashley so, so hard
thank you so much 🥺i worked really hard on this video and it that means so much to me that you noticed
@@bestdressed we appreciate your dedication so much!❤ and we don't mind when you take your time bc you have some of the best editing and video style on yt and it's worth waiting for

bestdressed we love u
Oh honey child, NEVERRRRRRRRR sew when you are tired! Just learn to get up and walk away from the machine and do not come back to it until you have slept.
What an adorable comment! 🥺🥺😭

right! it’s like waiting for a new rihanna album
dude it is always worth the wait so I don't even notice how long it has been, so when she said it had been months since she last updated I was really confused
I used the time she hasn't posted anything to rewatch all of her videos. Was really cool to look at her developement and how she becomes more and more mindfull and reflexive. It's so joyous and encouraging to see!
This would make such a cool series, it’s like the great British sewing bee but without the competition stress - and I love it!
Project Runway has been real quiet since you posted this.
Coincidence? I THINK NOT!!

The slideshow of pinatas really came out of left field, and it was honestly the best surprise I've seen in a while. Thanks Ashley.
can we just appreciate how good the edit is? the transitions, the background music, and the whole vibe is just so aesthetic. Ashley improved so much over the years, this is such quality content.
I mean--- she did go to film school but yes, I agree😅
I KNOW RIGHT. all of them is in the right portion and not being too much. Very decorative & detailed yet still have the values behind them. So freaking gewd.
I wish I could like this comment more than once, editing is very much appreciated.

THE EDITING GETS BETTER EVERY TIME
Some day in thirty years Ashley is gonna have her own fashion boutique in NYC or London and once in a while fans from her channel drop by to buy clothes and talk about their lives to her and she'll give you advice on not only clothing but also your life like a big sister
And all the fans will run around the city for hours looking for her shop but only the chosen ones will actually find it

I would buy from her
Tips from a self taught sewing person:
-watch as many tutorials as you can for all specific elements in your project like an invisible zipper
-buy second hand curtains and tablecloth’s to practice on -don’t be afraid to change your plans if something goes wrong -always buy more fabric than you need to, you can always make smaller projects out of the leftovers Have a nice day😁
I want more 3 minute intros Ashley
Yessss
OMG that's so pretty. I would really like to see it as a series trying to sew different style clothes. I really want to learn sewing because I love altering my clothes.

the dress turned out great! that fabric is so pretty and i felt your struggle with the eyelets i found that heavier fabric is usually better for those otherwise it's a pain. also are those butterflies in your hair?? absolutely delightful 10/10 good looks
the butterflies are linked in the description if you want 👍
I can literally listen to Ashley talk about her childhood for 3 straight hrs and not get bored
That speech pattern is what I like to call "Pandemic slur." It is a dialect of English perpetuated from self isolation and forgetting how to English in the absence of peers.
Ooof
Added to by the foreign dramas I have been watching so I don't even know what language is mine anymore.
"Forgetting how to English" perfectly describes what has happened to me over the last 5 months.
just watch peaky blinders and learn english there
the colors in the dress, in her room, it all just matches all just perfectly. *chef’s kiss*
Who else wants her to release merch with ankle socks that say “letting out that spicy, spicy ankle”
Omg yessss😂😂
Heheheh I do (that)
Hahaha yes let's start a petition
her bedroom is the most aesthetic thing ever is she in a barbie movie omg
A little advise. When you start getting mad, stop sewing. I've been sewing for 10 years and I have ruined so many things bc I kept sewing after I started to get frustrated 😂
Thats really good advice!
I have this same rule for myself. When I get frustrated and continue to sew I almost always sew something on the wrong side and then cry while I take another hour of my life ripping seams. 😂 I was crying laughing during the zipper crisis because that was me my entire first year sewing haha
@@mfitzpatrick16 same. And it's my job😂 when I take my time on my orders they turn out better
This happens to me with art haha I relate

it’s so cute how she matched her dress’s colour scheme with her bedroom decorations

Are you sure they arent like high quality vintage cotton or something
Hannah Wicks But that’s so smart! In my own experience you can get terrified to work with a fabric too expensive. Old fabrics are usually of better quality and have memories attached to them!
@@taritangeo4948 I don't think my grandparents would have anything high quality but who knows.
It's so kind of you to share your knowledge.
this comment is so wholesome omg
Love your videos and welcome to the neighborhood!
the editing in this one is outstanding. well done ashley. you never cease to amaze me with your cinematography skills.

“She’s looking kinda tortured. She looks like she’s been on a 3 hour date with a boy who just mansplained Pulp Fiction to her” SIS I-
Exactly. I choked. 😂😂😂😂
Sounds like personal experience lmao
N P it’s a term used when men explain things to women in a condescending manner
N P explained by a man
N P
Mansplaining is sort of like someone who wrote a paragraph about engineering in 5th grade explaining engineering to an engineer.
Well done 👍
ok pro tips from 11 years of experience:
-use gemtac/fray check/some kind of glue for the eyelets, it will stop them falling out
-get the right goddamn foot it will make your life a million times easier
-get the right goddamn needle it will stop you fucking up your nice fabric
-MAKE A MOCKUP JESUS CHRIST
-press every seam. Press them. If you don't have an iron, buy one. PRESS YOUR SEAMS.
-prewash fabric. PREWASH IT. IT WILL SHRINK IF YOU DON'T.
-paying attention to the grainline is cripplingly important and it will punish you if you get lazy about it
-never sew when you're hungry/tired/need the loo/frustrated.
Sorry.
how would you choose to finish your seams ?
KB Smith the best way to finish seams is with a serger, but you can also use a zigag/overlock stitch on your machine! Or do a fancy french/flat felled seam to tuck everything in neatly
ty ;-; lk learning the hard way that sewing ain't as simple as buying a sewing machine
the most accomplished sewing i have ever done it a pillow case when i was 9, and the people at the class at joans did not explain to me what finishing a seam meant, so the whole thing fell apart in like a week.

nah, fashion students got that bitch stare on another level....
source: worked at a fabric store near FIDM
Something my mom does when sewing: she uses a white pencil to outline the pattern on the fabric after she pins it down and then leaves 1/2 inch of fabric around the pattern when she cuts it. This way you have a bit more room to adjust the fit. After it's all put together you can cut off the excess easily. :)
Thats exaclty what my grandma does, it works perfectly 👌
I do that too. It is much easier to adjust .
you can also use a little piece of soap with a sharpy end instead of a pencil!
You can change the eyelets that are coming out to button holes! Also... I highly recommend getting a rotary cutter and cutting mat. It saves so much time.
