Met them in HMV Scarborough, 2005, they were in front of a t-shirt spinning thing and i wanted a thin lizzy one, the guitarist helped me look for one but there wasn't any so we bought their single which was this and it's probably one of my all time favourites now.
I sleep with my hands across my chest And I dream of you with someone else I feed my body with things that I don't need Until I sink to the bottom Don't act like it came as a surprise Don't believe me? Then look into these eyes This can't go on, so I should just regret it, regret it, regret it And even though I led you on forget it, forget it, forget it I'm going missing for a while I've got nothing left to lose Oh, I don't listen to anything I still remember how you moved And I taste your scent upon my lips Well, how it started I will never know But now I've reached my limit This can't go on, so I should just regret it, regret it, regret it And even though I led you on forget it, forget it, forget it I'm going missing for a while I've got nothing left to lose Oh, I don't listen to anything I'm going missing for a while I've got nothing left to lose Oh, I don't listen to anything Do you ever want to wear your body out Until there's nothing left to take? The rain began to push you away Has midnight come too soon again? I'm going missing for a while I've got nothing left to lose Oh, I don't listen to anything I've got nothing in defence I've got nothing left to lose Oh, I don't listen to anything I sleep with my hands across my chest And I dream of you with someone else
I agree. Vice wrote up a fun and fairly imprecise article, listing the top 50 so-called "Landfill" indie tracks of the period roughly post libs to maybe around 2012, some where near that year. They listed 2 Maximo park 'velocity' and 'pressure', which are two truly great songs. Other bands like The Fratellis (who took the number one spot), razorlight, pigeon detectives, etc, etc. There were a few, maybe five bands in amongst the 50, who should never be considered landfill; the point - that I am really making a meal of expressing here - is that I thought most people regarded MP as a proper rung above. Like perhaps the Mystery Jets, and perhaps Bombay bicycle club? Anyone? Love MP. Good luck to the keyboardist who has left this year to pursue new horizons down under. And also good luck to the continuation of MP. And, I should not forget the bassist, who understand had not played live for some time. Good luck to us all for that matter!

15 years old with my CD Walkman sat on back of the hour long coach journey to school just so I could then mitch off. The memories. :)
This song is just a kick in the feels. One of the best expressions of regret and loss I’ve ever heard in 40+ years of existence.
Sheryl Crow the difficult kind could be on that playlist!
can't wait to heart broken again just so i can play this song on repeat
Better to have loved and lost than not to be. That is alas, poor Yorik.
Well said 🙏
Heard this on the radio all those years ago as we're parking in a supermarket and had to listen to the whole thing, was enthralled by it. Still am.

Always loved this song, such an underrated band.
Also LOVE the short bass walk down after going up the octave at 3:00
This song means so much to me.
Cracking band live. I've had the pleasure of seeing these boys a lot
The first 27 seconds were perfect... 😭
They did this on the live lounge for radio1 back in the day.... was perfection, much better than radio version
These lads are as good as these islands have produced in 30 years

Going Missing… Something the late George Best did rather well 😀
He certainly did. How he managed to play football so well is a mystery to me. But he did.
I met him once, as a teenager, and I was 'star-struck'.
