The Man With a Caboose in His Backyard - Railroad Tiny House

- Lehigh Valley Railroad caboose no. 95056 suffered decades of neglect and misuse, but a painstaking restoration has the 1937 Bethlehem creation looking brand-new again - and it was done almost entirely by one man in his backyard.
Special thanks to Tom Baughman and his family for their accommodations and assistance in this production.

We need people like you to restore other cabooses anywhere you're needed. This is how you should spend your retirement. I wish I had your skills. I'm just a truck driver
Nice to see a LV caboose restored in green paint
Excellent video. I am sure he and his family will cherish this video for years to come.
Your caboose has been lovingly restored. Well done.
Truly a labor of love! ❤🚂
Great job, I was born and raised near Allentown, PA. Spent a lot of time riding a yard job in Packerton and twice a road job out of Allentown, after my Navy days I was a brakeman on the Chestnut Ridge RY in Palmerton and sometimes worked on the section gang on the Mack Rail car they had. Those were the days sis.
Sir
I just bought a beachfront property with 2 cabooses and a pullman car on rails converted into a home. I feel your pain... I am only in the beginning stages. Lets connect!!
After all, it's only money.
Great job!!!
Excellent video... Fantastic work and story. Thank you for sharing
Great story, great man, and thanks for saving this wonderful caboose!!!
Now I want one...
Very Nice Restoration.. I like the steel Caboose and all the hard effort you put into it... Ours is wood and built in 1898 SP
Well done sir!
Amazing!
I had a similar journey with my Illinois Central caboose. Glad to see someone else has a caboose They are passionate about and taking care of.
Gorgeous job
Beautiful piece !
Gorgeous job, I love it
Extremely well done, Nick! Mr. Baughman sure put in a lot of effort restoring this, and the end result is beautiful.
My mom lived in box car for a while, when she was a kid
I have a Reading caboose which I also restored. The project took all of two years of hard intense work. I am a welder as well as a SheetMetal Journeyman and a Boilermaker, so I had the needed skills to do the job. It has to be a labor of love , because of the effort to do a complete restoration, but the end result is worth it. Love how yours turned out.
Cool.
That's really cool! I've been reading about the history of cabooses and learned that Leigh Valley built 140 cars to the Reading design starting back in 1937. There was a picture of the 95 064 and the 95 088 caboose.
Outstanding restoration 👍
Great video! It’s always great to hear stories of people saving rare equipment like this!
Sad that you couldn't include the bathroom and stove. I've seen others on UA-cam that are b&b's. I'd love to have one.
Wow! Thank you so much for sharing this! My grandfather Jack Koehler always wanted a Lehigh Valley caboose and I have been hoping to follows his dreams of owning one but this really opened my eyes about how much work goes into it! Maybe one day! Glad this Valley caboose has a great home 😀
Oh wow! I didn't realize that there's more than one backyard caboose owners! I know a family down in Vegas that has one in their backyard as well!
It's always cool to see this stuff being preserved, and it's always interesting to see what trails and tribulations people would encounter when repairing these!
This is close by where I'm from in Stark County Ohio
Beautiful I love the Lehigh valley railroad
Glad you are enjoying it
What a great documentary I hope I get to see more from you're channel!
Awesome video! I thought I saw his caboose on my way to NC or it might’ve been someone else’s but I remember it being in a backyard.
Need to find a caboose pot belly stove
Was going to buy one for 5 grand, except the move is what I couldn’t afford…
That’s awesome!
This is gonna be awesome 😎
Just curious, how much did you get it for at auction? Also how much did it cost to move it?
I ask this because there is a 1958 Canadian Pacific caboose coming up for auction where I live.
I am not familiar how much all of this stuff goes for.. This caboose has the original stove and toilet. I am thinking if I can get this that I can make my own BBQ pit inside in place of the stove. I thought this would make for a nice place to BBQ and be a place to sit and eat, sort of like an outside porch
Very cool, lot of hard work. Where is this located exactly in north canton? Very familiar with the area, used to live in canton/Massillon area for 20 years.
The caboose is located at Tom Baughman’s private residence in Lake Township.
Hello! May I use clips of this in a UA-cam video, with credit?
Certainly. Check your inbox for an email from us.
Imron? I hope they had some good respirators...
