my parents were prepared to switch from private to public when they became pensioners. but just a few months before that date, the rules and laws changed and they were no longer given that option, not even with some "grandfathered conditions/rules", transition period or similar, and thus they were stuck with private and had to pay a LOT when they became older (70, 80, and finally 90+). In addition, private payed for most of their hospital bills directly, but other treatments (like doctors, drugs, etc) had to be payed first by them and then later at year's end hopefully be reimbursed if those costs were accepted by their insurance. Thus, be very careful what you choose before restricting yourself to private, read all the fine print, and finally you can't even prepare for sudden changes like happened to my parents. Of course, individual circumstances are VERY different between people (like they said, eg for young people who stay and work in germany for few years only).
Unfortunately, this video is a very dangerous balancing act between information and a sales event. In my opinion, it does not go into enough detail about the dangers of private health insurance, particularly in old age, but also for freelancers whose business model suddenly no longer works, e.g. due to a pandemic. I personally know of two cases in which the entire old-age pension was basically eaten up by the private health insurance. Of course, there are tricks to get back into statutory health insurance later, but that doesn't always work. From that perspective, it is very unsolidary to first not contribute anything yourself and only become part of the community when you are presumably only burdening it. I am in favor of abolishing private health insurance.

Couldn't agree more 👍
