As a Ganon main, I peaked watching Nairo vs Light at Frostbite 2018 and have been in constant misery ever since.
Uh the tournament you are referring to is Collision 2019 (Losers Semis), not Frostbite 2018. Frostbite 2018 was in the smash 4 era + Nairo didnt even attend Frostbite 2018 (he chose to attend a japanese invitational instead that took place on the same date as Frostbite)

The problem with tier lists is that the vast majority of these top players don't even know the full roster in the game, let alone touch any of these characters. So these lists become a huge "what is winning tournaments lately" and "what I suck against" very quickly, without taking time to actually consider the pros and cons of each fighter. In other words MID list...

Young Link could be higher, but the current top 25 is very difficult to surpass.
For adult Link, I think he is fine where he is. The character has stagnated significantly post-quarantine and has not contributed much in terms of high levels results for a long time.

I recently watched Sisqui Tier list and a lot of people was hating him because he didn't put Pikachu in top 10 and Kazuya is in his top. He was really accurate with the official tierlist

Link is hella slept on if he’s rank this low in this “official” tier list. Like there is no way in hell that Link is suddenly worse that Toon Link when Link has a strong bomb recovery, strong kill power, and a top tier Nair. The tools that this character has at his disposal should at least put him around A tier Imo.

Parrying cloud bair is a really good way to stop a lot of his pressure. The issue is that Sparg0 is is constantly varying timing of his bair because he knows that you need a parry to punish him. Sparg0 walls you out with variably timed bairs and then randomly goes for a super hard read. Sparg0 the individual also very well might be the best at keeping other top players in the corner. His reaction to visual stimuli when you are choosing a ledge option is absurdly fast. I seriously think that is Sparg0 picked up Minmin then no one would ever get off the ledge against him again.
Sparg0 and light are hard carrying their character placements in this list and I'm not surprised considering their performances with their characters
Wild Inkling was being toted as the best character from launch, now many years later (without any changes) she's MID

I really advocate for a tier list that shows how good characters are right now, and a list that's objectively based on what characters can do. It would be fun to see how much the tournament lost would differ from potential list

@@Judeinator9001 Steve is only barely broken when compared to his predecessors. Ultimate is far more balanced as a game than any previous game. Steve being broken is mainly due to hitstun cancel. If not for that, then it might be more reasonable to argue Pyra and Mythra are the best character in the game, and they actually have real weaknesses despite how good they are.

Even then, characters that are considered "Low tier" by the list like Isabelle and King K. Rool are able to win big tournaments because the game is so well balanced.

The different top players critiquing this list differently but also agreeing with it as well just shows how balanced this games is. Many of the characters can go up or down pretty easily. Up until Steve the game was in a pretty balanced state.

Is the most accurate form to place the characters. I mean, you can say that Pikachu is top 10, when nobody can do something with him
@@christianmedina4107 That’s the point you judge the character by the character rather than the people playing them. For example Yoshidora pushing Yoshi even higher. Yoshi was always capable of that it’s not like Yoshidora downloads his own patch notes. Results aren’t accurate they’re just relevant. It’s why these tier lists always change like ESAM changing his mind over and over because we see the character through the lens of their players. Then again I don’t blame pros not wanting to put work into a unique or rare character they want fast results or just to play for fun. Like a world without light fox isn’t that high but that doesn’t mean fox couldn’t do what he’s doing now. So maybe this perspective is relevant but it’s extremely blind.
This is not results based. Just top player's (partial) opinions aggregated.

I mean how else are people gonna judge? You put a character based on their character high and you gonna have a mob of people saying wtf do they know? They don’t get results at tourneys!

To me it looks like the tier list is based on the avarage quality of the player pool playing the character averaged out with the actual quality of the character.

This is why this tier list means nothing : "Most panelists had an above average opinion of their main, with 69% being above average to 31% below average. However, only ten panelists rated their main within the character’s outlier range, and two of these were Steve mains who agreed with the majority of panelists about the character being #1. No panelists were a lower outlier on a character they actively mained, though the same could not be said for ex-mains."
Everyone is biased, as it's impossible for a human being not to be so. We can agree on the strongest characters, but from rank A to D its absolutely biased and doesn't mean anything.

However I feel Yoshidora's prominence in Japan is a bit understated. The region as a whole believes Yoshi is top 10 thanks to him, which influenced the character's tier placement significantly.

Would like an indepth of why each character struggles.
16:31 as a sora main the issue w our playerbase is the neutral is kinda horrible. they have no patience. sora can do so much (except safely escape a good juggle lmao) but going for those combos constantly and mashing can only take you so far. thats why zackray won that tournament and kameme top 8s so often. if youre patient and have good neutral sora is definitely s- or higher
that is what i am saying sora is very fundamental character despite being combo heavy , so much that even without being good with the combo you can get away if you play solid and fundamental like zackray showed it , sakurai said it himself he is a straightforward character hat anyone can enjoy as long they play solid uunlike someone like joker , he deserves higher than cloud tbh

Ike is really good, if your opponent doesn't space and/or just swings. You beat him by avoiding his few kill setups and getting him offstage.
In a competitive setting he gets victimized offstage by a lot of the cast and he has a hard time approaching because everyone can parry if he's well spaced and if he's not they just punish.

Ike isn't bad or anything, but the thing is, he's very easy to read. You really can't mix up with Ike, and I swear that every Ike player plays the same way. Ike is one of those characters where if you can beat the best, you can beat the rest. Overall, Ike is only good against people who don't know the matchup.
Ike isn't bad he's just so simple at this point that there's nothing his meta can grow from.

Latin America has a very high opinion on Min Min.
Fun fact, in terms of the voting score, Palutena and Min Min is the only tie in the entire list. I guess Min Min got the leg up due to Latin America's high influence on her placement. Also won't be surprised if Japan also influenced it too, even though the article doesn't explicitly say so.

As a PT players IDC about learning 3 different pokemon, because what I care about is the inconsistency in terms if match ups. I mean against ken, Squirtle falls out of tatsu, against cloud he will fall out of ivy backairs, against joker, he falls out of squirtle backair like PT really shows me how trash this game is, and I live for it unfortunately

Here's my hot take: Diddy is not top teir. IK I'm the only one with this opinion, and I know tweek is cracked and what not, but like, if you watch this man's gameplay, you can see how it is all skill and none of it is diddy kong be a top tier character.
How are you differentiating between what makes it Tweek's skill level as opposed to Diddy Kong's strengths?

Bowser is way too low. Should be B+. Cloud is too high, Ylink is too low, Brawler is too low, Ike is too low, Pac-Man is too low, Byleth is too high.
Pac Man is perfectly adequate.
Ppl like saying cloud isn’t good bcuz his recovery isn’t but he has one of the best neutrals that make his onstage presence more dominant than 90% of the roster. That’s why he’s top tier. Spargo has so much success with that character because he abuses Cloud’s best moves with versatility and precision so I think he def deserves his spot and I’m a Wolf main.

Fox relies too much on actual player skill to be S Tier. Ask Light how he feels when he loses; actually, you can visibly see a good amount of his reactions when he loses and it usually isn't good.
Pit(Regular Only) definitely is better than Falco but Pit is often forgot about.
Sora is mainly good online.
Young Link is way better than Olimar.
Ryu shouldn't even be next to Sheik or Ken because Ryu plays too slow and usually they're lame.

A character relying on player skill doesn't matter for tier placement. The point is, if the character is played well, the reward is much higher than when we consider other characters being played well.
Also, saying a character is lame has nothing to do with tier lists LMAO
I wish they didn't give PT a single placement. They should have put Ash where they thought PT placed overall and then individual positions for Charizard, Ivysaur and Squirtle.
