The Austronesian languages form one of the world’s largest language families, considering the number of languages included and the number of geographic locations in which they are spoken. The Austronesian languages are spoken in most of the Indonesian archipelago: the Philippines, Madagascar, the island groups of the Central and South Pacific, Malaysia and in many parts of Vietnam, Cambodia, and Taiwan.
The Austronesian family comprises some 1,200 languages which cover half of the globe. Similarities in their vocabularies suggest that they descended from one common ancestor language proto-Austronesian (proto-AN).
If you are interested to see your native language/dialect be featured here.

It seems like there was a split between Malay-Philippine languages and oceanic languages between base 5 and base 10 counting systems
The ones using base 5 systems likely had strong Papuan influences in the past, same can be said about some Papuan languages neighbouring Austronesian ones, adopting a base 10 system

Why Singapore is not in the Thumbnail? We’re Austronesian too (Singaporean Malays). Singapore’s national language is Malay, same as Malaysia & Brunei. I feel like not including Singapore is like erasing the Singaporean Malay existence especially the orang Laut.

Singapore is mostly Chinese, and dominates Tamil and other languages
@@FatKat911 Our national language is literally Malay & the native people are orang Laut (they’re malay). Chinese may be the majority but the origin of Singapore is still Malay. Malay Singaporeans are native to the region & we’re Austronesian. At same time, languages is based on ethnic culture.
As long the native people speaks the language and still living in that country, the more it should be included. If you’re not Malay or from the region, you have no say to tell why we shouldn’t be included.

In Kawi language (which was a form of ancient Javanese), we had *" Rama "* and *" Rena "* to say Father and Mother.
It cognates with the austronesian *"Ama"* and *"Ina"*
That's also how we say Father (Ama) and Mother (Ina) in Tagalog but it's a bit old and formal Tagalog for us. We still use these in writings and in formal events.
@@hirayamanawari3583 in The Sundanese language that native to West java Indonesia we also use the word "Rama" till the modern day but is just use when refer to someone father "Tuang Rama" ( Your father) , "Pun Bapa" ( My father) and it was extra formal language and we don't use it casually.

What's cool about Austronesian languages is its a language of ancient seafarers and encompasses thousands of islands, big and small, from the African Coast of Madagascar to the Chilean coast of Easter Island.. It's range is virtually unrivalled.
The Malay and Indonesian word for 2 is 1 for Fijian.
for? you mean from?
In my opinion, the Austronesian people should build their civilization in a large archipelago like Indonesia and spread throughout the world.
it is impossible for a human civilization to be built in a small place

Andy, Palau language is kinda similar to the Micronesians hence there are 2 Micronesian languages spoken in Palau.
Nonetheless, linguists don't consider Palauan as Micronesian because the people of Palau directly came from Philippines. It makes its own branch.
@@flavmendrikaja3784 oh you’d be surprised the Palauans share a lot of similarities with the micros from songs traditional dancing etc..
@@flavmendrikaja3784 whoever is in charge of the linguistic branch needs to correct it. Languages evolve over time and obvs the Palauan language evolved and the people of Palau don’t share any of the cultural values similarities with the Philippines but with the micros tbh...
@anonymousanonymous4465 Linguistics have nothing to do with culture. Indeed, Palau shares more in common with Micronesia in terms of culture; but Palauan language, along with Chamorro, directly came from the Philippines, instead of passing by Sulawesi.
It also forms its own branch because it has a very different morphology from Micronesian.

they also share that same culture with Philippines. Bisayan culture pre Spanish was very austronesian and they're genetics are very similar.
