It's great video for people who have 1 to 3 years of experience. It might be very different for industry and I would recommend two years for first full time job.
Thanks for this video! I am in my first job out of college (2.5 years) it’s bizarre to think so much of it was fully remote. I am in a situation where I love the organization and it’s mission, my colleagues, even the benefits and learning environment. But for me as an individual I feel it’s not helping me reach a professional goal like, I have a job but not a career yet
With your first job being mostly remote, I'm sure the time flew by! It's definitely a tough decision when you like your current position, but know there's more out there for you. For me, every time I started somewhere new, the beginning was tough but substantial personal and professional growth followed because I had to adapt and learn new things. Good luck with your choice!
Hi. I have joined my first job this month on 1st June. I like everything here, the work, the work life balance, the seniors. environment etc. But I am unable to fulfil my needs with the salary. I am not happy with the salary can you give me an advice how long shall i stay here. I have good cyber security knowledge and i am working as a Senior Cyber Security Analyst.
@@shaswat2 If the salary is enough to live on for the short term, I would suggest working at your current job for 6 months. In that 6 months, be as exceptional as you can be. At the end of that 6-month period, ask for a raise from your current job. If you are unable to give you a raise, I would suggest applying elsewhere.
Everyone is different. If your getting what you need at your first employer out of college money, promotions, benefits and a good working environment stick it out. I worked at the same company my last year of high school throughout five years of college and one year post college. Since I had already been working there some may say that is not my first job, the next company I was there only four months then I got offered a position at a place where I can have a long stable career.
I agree with you, Ian. Everyone's situation is different and if your first job is providing you with fulfillment, satisfaction, and growth, I believe staying put would be best
So its been 2 months since I joined a company that focuses on math education and on first glance it seemed a wonderful company to work in which it still is and the work life balance and pay is industry standards so no complaints there and even the work itself isn't hectic nor least bit challenging. I'm enjoying my time here upskilling from YT/courses as well as working so it is basically I'm getting paid to work and learn. But the company's position in market isn't looking very good, I can already see lot of layoffs happened and also 10% salary was reduced of current emplyoees, ofc mine was safe as I was the fresher who had less salary to begin with. And I definitely have a feeling that this company could end up getting merged but again its a far fetched idea as I'm relatively inexperienced to take this judgement. What would you guys do in this situation (The experienced ones at corporate)? Would you stick around for a year or more or leave after 6 months? (according to contract 6 months is probation period)
Just came across this video, and am excited but nervous for exactly the topic of this video. I’m a junior at college rn, interning at a Fortune 500 company in this summer, and have been working for that company as an everyday worker for 3 years now. Now I love the company, and how much they respect me for how young I am, and what they have done for me. However, I don’t love the state I am from, and where I might be working at after college geographically. I believe I will be payed well if I do receive a job offer, so I would have no problems with pay and benefits. How long do you believe I should wait to request a transfer to some place I would want to? I, in my mind, believe 2-3 years, to get my feet on the ground, and money saved up, would be a great amount of time (not too long, but long enough to show that I do care about the company and want to stay). I guess my question is, what are your recommendations/advice about transferring?
I'd say that you should stay at this first job as long as you still feel like you have a high rate of learning, growth, and development. For your first job, you learn so much since everything is new to you. If you think of your development charted on a graph, with time on the x axis and development on the y axis, the steepest part of the graph (ie: most learning per unit of time) takes place within the first few months or year of a position. Over time, as you become more experienced, that graph flattens out, meaning that you are developing less per unit of time. Once that graph starts to flatten out, that's when you should transfer. For me, this typically happened after a year or so. If you leave too early, you may be leaving valuable learning experiences on the table. If you leave too late, you could be preventing yourself from learning new things had you transferred earlier
I'd give the second job a few months to see if anything improves, but if you still hate it at that point, I'd personally start looking elsewhere. From my experience, life becomes miserable if you hate going to work.

Hi. How long should you stay in a entry level job? I mean not right after college, just in general.
I'd say about a year. At that point, you have learned enough where you can pursue a more advanced role
