I played the shit out of the game but don't recall those challenge blocks or lucky blocks. And for the longest time believed the undead dragon was in hell so instead of traveling out to hell on earth, we dug down to hell and searched there on sky bridges. Needless to say, I never unlocked dragon endurance. I do, however, await the remake.
The hours that my friends on 360 and me played this and Murder Miners feel like a fever dream, very nostalgic times. Not even including Minecraft because that's a whole new level of dedication from all those years ago.
I remember in the xbox 360 days that me and my buddies hop on and try to even reach the undead dragon. We never reached it, most of the time we all just die or one of us dies and the whole crew follows suit, or it ends at the ore lands. Still good times.
Yeah me and my old friends did the exact same thing, always made a base at orelands and never really went further, memories I’ll always remember from such a simple indie game
This was one of the games playing with the minecraft formula that I kept on the radar. Its a shame the game didnt get expanded upon over the years. Really think this was a winning formula, to have minecraft/terraria world with FPS gameplay. It has a ton that I felt still is missing from minecraft, like bosses in different biomes etc. Actually a purpose to build defensive castles etc. Where in minecraft you build a castle purely for aesthetic reasons. Really think this game would have been a success if the devs kept updating and adding content over the years. The fact that endurance shows there is much potential for single player story mode within the game, that could have certainly been upgraded and expanded upon. There a are a few minecraft clones/like games that were abandoned that is such a shame. There was another one where the entire voxel work is cardboard and you could make cardboard cutouts for digging, building equipment, weapons and buildings. Think a lof of these games had the potential to fill in a niche that minecraft lacks. Having a giant voxel sandbox world that actually has some purpose in terms of game progression.
Aaand now I'm inspired to finally beat Castleminer Z myself, played it since I was around 7 years old but never actually played much Endurance. Also I bet the fire dragon's 2:00 loot landed somewhere behind you, because dragons tend to fall diagonally in the direction they were facing.
I remember playing with a friend a long time ago, traversing the land in an attempt to find Bloodstone land. After much time of traversing the land.... we found in. Bloodstone all the eye could see. We we're living like kings.
The fact that this got recommended to me after I plugged my old 369 in to revisit old indie games and see THIS, truly remarkable. Good to know this game still gets views on UA-cam!
Nice video dude! I know a lot about the game, so I figured I'd explain some of the stuff about it. For one, you could probably tell the vision of the game from back during the 360 era is pretty different to what it was in the PC version; the out of place, and frankly pretty OP Loot Blocks are the epitome of that, but there's a lot more, like strange texture changes that aren't too great, a new UI that also isn't very good, a scuffed stamina feature, etc. The reason for that is it *was* a different vision; DDNA at the time were working on a new game, so they hired an external company to make updates for CMZ in the meantime, and you can see how a lot of the choices they made didn't really fit the game or work too well. As the lead dev and owner of DDNA described it, "the main idea of CMZ has always been 'Navy SEALS fighting Dragons' ... with crafting chains like Terraria". Also, you've probably noticed the many, many bugs, like the ammo one you ended up using at the end. In the "Betas" tab in Steam you can use it to actually go back to the final 360 version of the game (but ported to Steam), and funnily enough, it's way more stable and bugfixed than the "modern" version. There's a lot to that, such as the horrible engine and tools CMZ was made in, or the external team I believe just not even really fixing the bugs they made, but there's also that DDNA ended up bankrupting after Death Toll and thus had to abandon the game. But finally for some good news! A few months ago, every member of the DDNA team who worked on CMZ all had their schedules coincidentally line up perfectly, and now a remake is being worked on the whole original team! In the CMZ Discord they've been posting screenshots and clips on an almost daily basis, it looks incredible so far even only a few months in. It's based on the final Xbox 360 version of CMZ (as in they're comparing it to that, it's being remade from the ground up in Unreal Engine) so a lot of the more scuffed things in the PC version aren't going to be there, and a lot of cool new stuff will be.
CastleMiner Z! I loved traveling to miners heaven on Xbox 369 with all my friends. We hopped into an Xbox party and played until we passed out. Then After we made a bloodstone base on the alien planet up in the sky I can geek out for hours about this gem god I miss this game..

My last memory of playing this game was in the past few years; played with my friend on the PC port in a private session with my friend, and a person named "BushDid9/11" joined our game, killing us with a nuke-esque explosion instantly.
I did this before the RPG update on Xbox with 4 players, All we had were AKs. We dug a tunnel too ore land, then we built a tower and built a long bridge. When we got to the boss i built a huge platform praying the dragon didn't knock us all down.
I had so much fun on Castle Miner Z haha. This video unlocked my memories. I remember having a bloodstone AK, I duped a million diamond blocks and made a fully working legit Zombies map like COD. Thanks for the vid!
I played this game probably when I was 10-12 literally all the time and my strat would always be to mine resources in caves at spawn until I had bloodstone weapons. There were no teleporters or loot boxes but I think I remember there being a thing where you could teleport to people you were playing with if they were alive so if everyone died, everyone would always get off LOL. thanks for the trip down memory lane
I thinks what I loved the most in this game, was that each biome haved is own theme, EACH BIOME, and I loved those music, really making feel like it was a trip

Getting told that somewhere out there is an evil undead dragon that you have to beat but no one you know has actually seen it was so captivating as a kid. I remember back on the 360, I had 3 friends and we all agreed we would commit to endurance until we defeated the undead dragon, so we geared up with gold weapons and headed for the desert, towering up at night and moving as a unit at day to the mountains, we found a meteorite there, we mined for a couple hours and got laser weapons, by this time our group was down to 3 since one had to leave for bed, we ran and made it with ease to the snow biome where one of us died and gave up, so me and one other remained and we pushed through oreland and into hell where we made it to the required distance for the dragon to spawn, so we towered up and built a quick platform to fight on, we fired for a long time and my friend died but just then 3 more clips with my assault rifle, it died, and both of us got the access few people had, dragon endurance. This was honestly like an anime or something, the process took 6 and a half hours and I’ll never forget it, this game gave me some good memories.
Its crazy how such a small xbox indie arcade game would create such memories even after all these years, big games from big companies didn't leave a mark quite like this small indie game did for me
Castleminer, Castleminer Z, White noise and I made a game with zombies in it (its only a dollar!). These games and many more for just a dollar was one the best features Xbox 360 had with the indie developers.
I remember doing a full lobby endurance run in 2015 on my old 360. When we reached hell on earth, we built a stone bridge across it and spammed our RPGs on the undead dragon.
Oh man I have so many minecraft-likes on my xbox360! Castle miner Z was always the most striking though. Love to see someone play it in this day and age.
It was definitely my favourite, i also liked total miner but the version on steam is not very good so i never made content on that, gonna be bringing more Castleminer Z content tho once i finish up editing my current stuff :)
this and xenominer were my favorite indie games. xenominer was a block based game(like minecraft) but you had health, battery power, and oxygen to worry about and the last update they had done before disappearing was add oxygen generators so you could have a base with airlocks and shit. there was also this little robot that you could program to build or mine for you. you were able to make macros and put macros within the macros to really simplify things.
I remember playing this in the days of desperation for Minecraft on Xbox. along with murder miners. my friend carried me through the whole thing and I had no idea what I was doing. Great memories
I remember playing endurance and having the best hacker of the game join my game and randomly turn the whole spawn tower into lucky blocks. Me and my pal refused to touch it though altho did laugh at some the wild stuff the dude did with guns and stuff before he left. He’s a good guy and hyper talented, if you ever see giant block images on the page for castle miner Z from one single person. It’s him.
I haven’t thought of this game in years. I remember playing it back around the time Minecraft came out on the 360. I don’t remember too much about the game but I did kinda like it even if I didn’t play it much. Probably would have played it more if it wasn’t for my friends. Almost every time I played it they were on and wanted to play it with me. I’d spawn in they’d give me a lot of stuff and we were gonna go hunt dragons. But every time we started to travel the friend said other friends wanted to join and then we’d wait and it turns out they weren’t coming or would take hours and he then just drop the whole thing even if the original plan was just us. And so I just left that day feeling like nothing was accomplished. This happened consistently. Which is probably why I didn’t touch it much after for a long while.
Oh wow I bought this game for the 360!! My nephew really wanted to play Minecraft but I couldn't afford it so I bought this one on sale. But he loved it!!! He told me about all of the crazy stuff like the guns and the different types of dragons and running into aliens. He still brings it up from time to time especially the feature to be able to have your avatar be the player.
I spent hours playing this with my friends before the actual minecraft xbox port came out. It was still before the aliens got added. We used to just go as far as we could and the world would just start repeating. But you were still going further and further away from spawn
8:09 one thing I learned, which I might have to test again just to make sure, is that breaking a lucky block with a laser shotgun basically multiplies the loot it drops. I remember playing with a friend a couple years back and figuring that out, and we abused the hell outta it edit: yep. I'm getting 4-5 drops from a single regular loot block instead of 1 at a time when using a laser shotgun on it at point blank. Now imagine 4-5 drops from a single lucky loot block.
I remember I’d join other people’s servers, load up my inventory with goodies, and leave. That was how I got my first gun and other good gear. Never knew if it just duplicated or if I actually stole them. Never cared
For those of us who were too broke to afford a top f the line gaming PC for minecraft back in the day, this was our minecrft. and all things considered? it was a thing of beauty
i remember playing with a british person and he kept saying ore land but i thought he said our land took me like 10 minutes to realize what he was saying, this mustve been like 2012 or 2013 maybe my username was craving germ. i miss those days if u out there ur a king
I am glad you enjoyed the video! It took me about 2 hours to do the entire run in one sitting however this could definitely be done faster especially if you focus on making anti dragon rocket launchers as it only takes 2 or 3 to take the undead dragon down
Dude, 700 subs? only? I thought I was watching a professional video here, and well it is. but dude, you deserve more love, and god bless the algorithm for recommending this video to me

you did a good job, bro. you should keep on doing this! at first i thought this game was a minecraft mod... instead it's a cursed dragon fighting game. edited me being dumb and calling a game a mod.
an easier way of beating the dragon was just by making a platform in the sky and using 2 guided missiles. also bloodstone assault rifle better than the lmg because the reload time is much lower so the chance of getting swarmed is low, thats how i beat it in 1 run after years of not playing the 360 version.
i’m trying to see if there’s a speed run community for this game, I found one guy @Mobile who looks to have done it in around 23 minutes but I can’t find anything else. Thinking about trying it myself

this and xenominer were my favorite indie games. xenominer was a block based game(like minecraft) but you had health, battery power, and oxygen to worry about and the last update they had done before disappearing was add oxygen generators so you could have a base with airlocks and shit. there was also this little robot that you could program to build or mine for you. you were able to make macros and put macros within the macros to really simplify things.
I’ll check it out. That’s sounds like a fun game to make videos on
I remember playing this in the days of desperation for Minecraft on Xbox. along with murder miners. my friend carried me through the whole thing and I had no idea what I was doing. Great memories
Great memories indeed, i actually just did a video on murder miners lol
I was JUST thinking about this game and then this pops up on my feed
It was meant to be
The "it''s so bad it's good" MineClone
haha that is very accurate
Holy heck my nostalgia
I remember playing endurance and having the best hacker of the game join my game and randomly turn the whole spawn tower into lucky blocks. Me and my pal refused to touch it though altho did laugh at some the wild stuff the dude did with guns and stuff before he left. He’s a good guy and hyper talented, if you ever see giant block images on the page for castle miner Z from one single person. It’s him.
This is an awesome video and it’s nice to see this game more
Thank you very much :)
goddamn this is a trip down memory lane
Damn man you missed out, definitely better with friends like most games but still fun for a solo play
It was honestly such a simple but amazing game, playing it now does not have the same feel it did on the 360 but hits hard with nostalgia
@@Reckerless lol for sure!! When my nephew finally got Minecraft he was so disappointed he said there's only 1 dragon and no guns!!
This game is way different than i remember wow
I spent hours playing this with my friends before the actual minecraft xbox port came out. It was still before the aliens got added. We used to just go as far as we could and the world would just start repeating. But you were still going further and further away from spawn
That's awesome we all had similar experiences, did you ever make it to lantern land?
8:09 one thing I learned, which I might have to test again just to make sure, is that breaking a lucky block with a laser shotgun basically multiplies the loot it drops. I remember playing with a friend a couple years back and figuring that out, and we abused the hell outta it
edit: yep. I'm getting 4-5 drops from a single regular loot block instead of 1 at a time when using a laser shotgun on it at point blank. Now imagine 4-5 drops from a single lucky loot block.
i wish i knew that back then
@@Reckerless better late than never :)
i was not expecting a destiny 2 gameplay at the end
Lol i only just recently got my pc and had no more content recorded to show during the outro and only had that Destiny 2 clip
Bro i miss this game
CMZ has alot of awesome ideas.
Awesome ideas that were horribly executed. That soundtrack is god tier though.
Agreed
Castleminerz is one of my most favorite games to ever exist. Nothing else needs to be said, it’s just a really fun game.
Amazing game for its time
Agreed.
this game and murder miners is what made the xbox 360 a commercial success
change my mind
with a little sprinkle of halo
It was a mode I always wanted to beat but never got around to it. Its been years since I've even tried lol but I may return to the game again
It’s very nostalgic to play and it was nice to beat things I never did on the 360 I would recommend it
idk why this game is so nostalgic to me, I dont think ive put more than 10 hours into it
I honestly don't know either, i think the game also just brings nostalgia to early xbox 360 and the arcade game section they had for indie games
I remember I’d join other people’s servers, load up my inventory with goodies, and leave. That was how I got my first gun and other good gear. Never knew if it just duplicated or if I actually stole them. Never cared
hahaha
Theres a way to move a bit faster by holding w and a or d in a diagonal line
I did use that method, must not have mentioned it in the video
For those of us who were too broke to afford a top f the line gaming PC for minecraft back in the day, this was our minecrft. and all things considered? it was a thing of beauty
It sure was, perfectly said
Staying up all night, drinking mountain dew, and eating crap...
Monster energy for me lol
i remember playing with a british person and he kept saying ore land but i thought he said our land took me like 10 minutes to realize what he was saying, this mustve been like 2012 or 2013 maybe my username was craving germ. i miss those days if u out there ur a king
He probably still remembers you
How long would it take to reach the undead dragon?
Like 2 hours of gameplay or....
(Btw, huge memory unlock! Thanks man! 🎮❤️)
I am glad you enjoyed the video! It took me about 2 hours to do the entire run in one sitting however this could definitely be done faster especially if you focus on making anti dragon rocket launchers as it only takes 2 or 3 to take the undead dragon down
@@Reckerless Huh, thanks for telling me! So, in comparison, does steam have more players online in this game than Xbox or is it all the same?
Dude, 700 subs? only? I thought I was watching a professional video here, and well it is. but dude, you deserve more love, and god bless the algorithm for recommending this video to me
Thank you so much i really appreciate the kind words, my i was at 100 subs a month ago so 700 is insane for me and i am so grateful to everyone supporting my channel its insane!!
@@Reckerless hell yeah dude, I saw this CMZ video and I was like "holdup CMZ content in 2023?" And I needed to see it and I found it entertaining since I haven't played this game since the Xbox 360 days, I genuinely thought I was watching a big UA-camr by the video, but you're going to be a big UA-camr soon hopefully and I wish you the best of luck towards it
I remember rubber banding my controller and letting it mine for a very long time
That's commitment lol
i almost completely forgot about this game, omg! I used to play the hell out of it because I couldn't afford minecraft as a kid lol
same haha
damn this brings back memories
We didn’t realise back then we were creating memories
@@Reckerless seriously
Man, legendary game.
this game is the most horrifying thing ever
you did a good job, bro. you should keep on doing this! at first i thought this game was a minecraft mod... instead it's a cursed dragon fighting game.
edited me being dumb and calling a game a mod.
Thank you so much
@@Reckerless no problem mate, just wanna encourage a small creator and share my thoughts.
It was fun jumping on thoes floating meteors
Cant wait for the remake
an easier way of beating the dragon was just by making a platform in the sky and using 2 guided missiles.
also bloodstone assault rifle better than the lmg because the reload time is much lower so the chance of getting swarmed is low, thats how i beat it in 1 run after years of not playing the 360 version.
Damn that sounds a lot easier than what i did lol
10:57 anyone know what’s the music called.
Its bugging me that i cant remember what the name of that music is when hes fighting the dragon at the end.
Honestly i do not know, it was just a section from a youtube video that had a compilation of battle music
i’m trying to see if there’s a speed run community for this game, I found one guy @Mobile who looks to have done it in around 23 minutes but I can’t find anything else. Thinking about trying it myself
Give it a go! doubt i could do any speedruns lol
I remember this game.
Played it a few times.
Was fun.
yes
Main reason I stopped playing is because I had minecraft on the 360 as well, and the game didn't feel the most polished by comparison.
I remember on xbox it you bought their other games you would spawn with a bloodstone pick rpg light saber and some other things
I never had that rip
