What you can also do is my male guard I use I tare a slit all the way down the middle after taking the paper off the sticky part and then stick it to the diaper just like a real booster pad and that dose the same thing just a lot better and all you have to do when the diaper and pad is fully used is dispose of the hole thing like usual. I learned this because I deal with neurologic bladder and bowel incontinence and I've had medical supply stores send me the guards insted of the actual booster pads. Have fun y'all.
If you cut slits in the plastic backing of the pad. It works more like a buster pad. But once it's to capacity, the diaper starts absorbing. Eather way works this method you used seems to extend the diaper longer. Saves on diaper changes on the cheaper diapers. Why wouldn't someone correlate this tougher its genius idea. This should be done more like on long road trips. Times you can't get the good high capacity diapers like the ABDL ones etc.
That's not a bad idea as long as you don't mind pulling down or unfastening your diaper, taking out the used pad for disposal, then repositioning/refastening your diaper. Do you ever replace the first pad with a fresh one? I don't know if I would want to try it myself, but our situations are different. I wear diapers when I want to for convenience. When I want to extend the capacity of a diaper, my personal choice is to use a booster pad, which allows fluids to flow through the bottom of the pad into the diapers padding after the booster capacity is reached. It all comes down to preference and convenience. We have to experiment a bit to discover the best way for our situation.

I do the same but with larger sized baby diapers, mostly size 7 but 6 will work as well and size 8 works good if you can find them and like Pampers
Seems like size 7 is no bigger than a size 6 in both pampers and Huggies. Am I just imagining this?

Another idea is to cut out the padding area of pull-ups and insert it into a tab style diaper
