The railroad over Rollins Pass was originally the Denver, Northwestern and Pacific Railroad, financed and built by David Moffat. It later became the Denver and Salt Lake Railroad, which was acquired by the Denver and Rio Grande Western Railroad in 1947. Use of Rollins Pass was discontinued following completion of the Moffat Tunnel in 1928.
