This is one of the top world records period. Just try a beer mile and you will understand how a 4:33 is insane. Bellemore ran farther than a mile too as soccer benches were in the way. WTF?? There is no other time ever run within 14 seconds. Astonishing. 4:33 will be the record until Bellemore breaks it if even he can. Insane!! Respect. That guy is world class.
Anybody running a mile under 5 minutes is exceptional by itself. I run 3 times a week and my average is around 5:10 for a mile... and I'm not slowing down to chug beer while I do it. This is guy is a legitimate athlete who happens to drink beer while he performs.
The soccer benches are in the way to add the 10 meters for the chugging zone. As you don’t run in the chugging area. But it’s insanely impressive. I have done the beer mile 5 times now and my best is 16:56. The 3rd and 4th beer always take forever

Totally agree. This is an achievement beyond understanding. This is a guy who clearly can go well sub four and who can drink like a whale all in the same person. How? Very few people can go sub four and non can drink like that. No one is on the same planet.
My best mile was 6:10. My best beer mile was 17+ minutes and I was miserable for 3 hours after. This is madness and greatness, all in one video. Respect. Funny enough, my best time for a mile was set on this same track in 2015. Good memories in San Francisco.

@@rxhx i don't think 11 seconds is enough time given the beer rules. no funneling or releasing backpressure, so i don't think even using a straw to equalize atmospheric pressure is allowed.
now, if you throw the "rules" out, and get a 3:4x runner to attempt it, i think it is possible. all 4 laps, you'd use a pitcrew... someone on a ladder with all 4 beers, a person to position the nozzle of the beer-bong into the runner's mouth, and operate the spigot, so the beer could be loaded into the funnel before he arrives between each lap. if each beer takes 2 seconds, that would give 1 second to re-accelerate to pace.... theoretically it is possible. someday.

@Youric Hunt i gave it a quick ponder, yeah. i came up with a hotdog mile, and i think i want to leave the rules WAY more open to interpretation to keep people from hitting a rule-based wall the way that we have with the beer mile. if someone optimizes the hotdog delivery, soaked buns, etc. they should be allowed to implement those route changes to progress the record.

Yall tripping. That's a rabbit. Intentionally placed there to set a fast pace for the others. There's a huge psychological and physiological advantage to being in the chase and he wouldn't have been able to run the same time without. Things like adrenaline are much bigger impacts than the extra half step it takes to change lanes. That's generous too since it's a diagonal move and every runner takes an imperfect path around the track.
This is the pinnacle of human athletic achievement. I'm so proud to be Canadian!

A mile is 1609m rather than 1600m so it probably measured pretty well.

Its a track theyre all 400m I think they compensated for the 9 m by having that out part

There’s no way. Only a handful of people can break 4 minutes without chugging beer. His chugging really cannot get any faster without shotgunning . Which means his mile run would need to be 3:30 which is 13 seconds faster then the world record mile (without beer).

Not sure. They didn't mention it at any point when I was there, there is a rule on how much can be left in the bottle so that's what was going on at the end.

In Germany we call this "Kastenrennen" (box racing), because you're a team of 2 people who have to carry a "Kasten" (20x 0,5l of 5%alc. beer) and you have to carry the beer all the time. The team that crosses the finishing line with an empty box (you have to drink 5 litres of beer) first, wins.
