- A little sisterly advice: see "This is Called Helping" clip and watch #Encanto in theaters now! 🌸
Walt Disney Animation Studios’ “Encanto,” is the tale of an extraordinary family, the Madrigals, who live hidden in the mountains of Colombia in a magical house, in a vibrant town, in a wondrous, charmed place called an Encanto. The all-new original film features the voice of Stephanie Beatriz as Mirabel, an ordinary 15-year-old who’s struggling to find her place in her family. “Mirabel is a really funny, loving character who also deeply yearns for something more,” says Beatriz. “She’s also not afraid to stand up for what she knows is right-something I love and relate to very much.”

I wish we could've seen more of Mirabel's relationship with Luisa in the movie. Even though Mirabel feels overshadowed by her sisters, that brief interaction with in this clip with Luisa simply saying "Careful, Sis" seems to give the idea Luisa doesn't look down on Mirabel like Isabela does. It would've been so easy to make Luisa the mean one solely because she's physically bigger. Glad they didn't.
Their biggest interaction is just before Luisa’s solo song
Bimbo energy right here /a
Also, in the first song (The Family Madrigal), when Mirabel mentions Luisa, Luisa smiles at her and gives her a wink and a thumbs up whereas Isabela ignores her
I would’ve liked to see some flashbacks of them as kids. Like Isabella was the golden child that made fun of mirabel, could Luisa be the one that looked out for her? She was the strong one, so who could be more weak and vulnerable than her baby sister who didn’t have a gift. Not looking down on her, but being more protective.
Luisa is honestly a big soft cupcake inside! It seems like she's sweet, helpful, and dedicated to everyone, including her sisters.
Really do agree with you; it would've been SO easy to make her personality directly match her physical appearance, but no. She honestly seems pretty sensitive in the movie!

i loved felix's "Our angel! Our angel!" it was so funny
I don't know why. She's so arrogant in the way she does things.
Isabel's flow and smoothness of hair caught me! The way it effortlessly moves shows her perfection... And also, Mirabel's face when Isabel comes down is epic! The animation is flawless and the set looks beautiful...
When I saw the trailer I was so impressed by the animations. Especially the curly hair and flowing skirts, they really have come far
Forget Isabella’s hair! No offense, but her hair is just kind of boring. It’s just too perfect, and it doesn’t move realistically. I’m obsessed with Pepa’s hair!!! Lol! It’s so long and messy and curly! And it’s just so pretty! It reflects her personality, which is extremely chaotic and unpredictable. And I’m also biased, cause I’m also a redhead.
@@imagaybanana2004 i agree actually. I loved how the movie handled curly hair and the animation for Pepa’s hair while in a literal tornado was so good.
@@breademperoar9613 Yes!!! All of the curly hair is so good! Especially Mirabel’s!!! I love curly bangs though, so maybe that’s why I love Pepa’s hair.

Disney should make a show that explores every character that wasn't as explored in the movie where we get to find out more about each character. Also this is one of my favorite scenes and I can't wait for the whole movie to come out on Disney+

I so badly wanted a Solo song for Camilo and Dolores 😭😭 They stole the spotlight in We don't talk about Bruno 🔥🔥🔥
Couldn’t agree more! I wanted to not like the song, because it’s basically a diss track for my favorite character in the whole movie, but I love Camilo and Dolores parts too much to not like it!
Dolores’s part was amazing it deserves its own song
Someone made an original Dolores song (and actually got her voice actress to sing it!). The song is called Turn it down by OR3O.

The way Pepa is acting reminds me of how my mom gets when we’re getting ready to have a family party at our house or we’re going to a party and she’s freaking out about everyone getting ready on time and making food to bring. Thankfully she doesn’t have Pepa’s powers lol. Also as much as I love Isabela I have to admit that she’s being a real b*tch to Mirabel here. I get annoyed with my sister sometimes but I’d never be that mean to her.
I kind of feel like Isabela and Luisa represent two different forms of sisterly relationships. Isabela, at least for the first part of the movie, is a bit toxic in her mannerisms and “I’m the best at everything” personality, while Luisa, though she is not the most supportive of Mirabel’s family, seems to genuinely care for her little sister right from the start.
But you have to admit Isabella has a point when she says, “If you weren’t always trying to hard you wouldn’t be in the way.” That is very true. Because in the “Family Madrigal” song The Whole family is calmly taking a walk while mirable is showing off and saying how great of a family she has when the rest of her family is just chilling and walking normally not bragging about how they have powers and stuff. The whole family already loves her enough she doesn’t have to show that she is worthy of being part of a magical family cause just being there for the fam is already enough for them but she keeps trying which always has her getting in the way of things.
@@soft_petals1761 if everyone treats you like you’re nothing, you either disappear (like Bruno) or try proving you do matter.
@@soft_petals1761 are you blind? Why are you gonna be so blind-? I bet you haven't watched the whole movie.

Anyone else find it kind of funny that the "golden child" has one of the more useless gifts? Mom can heal the sick, Bruno can see the future, Pepa can theoretically keep them safe from dangerous weather, Dolores can hear any danger coming to protect everyone, and Louisa actively helps the community with her strength. Isabella has a good gift but not that impressive compared to others when abuella is obsessed with protecting the community
I mean she about to hit mirabel with the cactus she’s made isn’t that not dangerous enough?
maybe that's the point, she can grow probably any plant which can be useful for growing crops or some shit and other stuff but her ability was being stunted by her family/abuela's expectations of her
I think it’s a nod to the pretty privilege that goes on in latin families, there’s always that one girl who has it all, is smart, kind, talented, who always seems to have herself together. Not only is Isabela pretty but she spreads beauty throughout the village. It may not be useful but it’s certainly aesthetically pleasing to everyone
Well, If she can spawn plants she could sustain the whole community with food, create cotton and linen for textiles and wood for construction and probably many other things too. I don't think that is useless at all. At least a lot more useful than super hearing and seeing the future.
@@mochaest1994 I think that's the most likely explanation. Like yes she can make other plants which would have more use but her song starts after accidentally making something that wasn't a flower and the whole song is about her realizing she has the capability to do more than she's been allowed to
Finally, a newer Disney film with a bunch of instantly lovable characters! Easily up there with movies like the Lion King, Beauty and the Beast, Aladdin, etc. Even the ones who barely have a total of five minutes on screen scream iconic. Also, can we all just take a moment and admit how funny Felix is! “Our Angel. Our Angel!” Comedic gold.

@@breademperoar9613 Abuela and Pepa, gosh the 3 of them are so annoying
Well pepa was just emotional. Isabela is the granddaughter of Alma. But Alma was kinda annoying. But she might be annoyed herself.
Don't include lion king. I hated the protagonist the instant he opened his mouth for the first time
I really like how Isabela calms Pepa with flowers! I wish she'd do that on more occasions because it is so sweet🥺❤🤩
I get the impression that Pepa and Isabela have this special aunt/niece relationship (the favorite aunt/favorite niece sort, although in Isabela's case she only has _one_ aunt) and that this isn't the first time this happened. Pepa gave her a sunny spotlight! Plus her weather gift also complements Isabela's plant gift as she can provide the right amount of sun and rain. And you see them briefly dance towards each other while setting the table for dinner in _We Don't Talk About Bruno_ too.
@@RavinRay Yeah you're right that makes sense.
Of course this may not be the first time this happened, but I wish we could see it a little more often since it is super cute
May contain spoilers:
I think Isabela is kinda rude to Mirabel because she’s low key jealous of her. Mirabel doesn’t have a gift so she doesn’t have to put up with being perfect or useful. But she still tries, and that’s what Isabela doesn’t get.
Actually no. Isabella is perfect cause her abuela is the one who shaped her to be that way. Infact Isabella loves her powers she just needed somebody to be able to accept the part of her that’s imperfect so she’s not jealous. To be honest she has point when she says that if Mirable weren’t trying so hard she wouldn’t be in the way. In the “Family Madrigal” song Mirabel is singing her heard out about how great her family is and their powers while the family is just taking a walk with each other. Mirabel overly helps to trying to show she is worthy of being apart of a magical family when literally nobody cares because they love her either way. Only one who is I guess rude to mirable is Isabella but everybody else is perfectly nice to her.
@@soft_petals1761the movie makes a point to show how Mirabel is constantly looked down on/left out of her family(even though they obviously love her) since she doesn’t have a gift, that’s her whole struggle. She knows that her family loves her but they also don’t really see her as equal. (The not-so-special special gift).
Isabella might be pretty, graceful and quite literally has flower power but that means nothing if she can't treat Mirabel kindly or at least try to empathize with her sister not having powers but wanting to be of help in some way to her family. Like don't make Mirabel feel less important than she already feels in not possessing a unique and special power which isn't her fault or of her choosing.
Isabela doesn’t dislike her for no reason; she seems to envy her tbh. Besides, Mirabel isn’t really treating Isabela kindly either??
It's a realistic depiction of how some older sisters treat younger siblings
@@kikislonelyst. I didn't say anything about Isabela disliking Mirabel; just that she doesn't treat her with much respect compared to the rest of her family, especially Luisa who is another older sibling of Mirabel's and who could've just as easily looked down on her sister for being powerless but chose not to. I do agree with you that Isabela is probably envious of Mirabel in terms of her not having to maintain a reputation of perfection the whole time unlike Isabela who is looked upon as an "angel", meaning she is percieved as someone who can do no wrong which must be very pressurizing for Isabela to know and thus, proceed to continue being. And it's true that Mirabel didn't respond kindly herself. But hey, that seems to be sibling culture. If there's someone out there we can be mean towards and it's acceptable, knowing we have no choice but to eventually try to resolve the conflict, is our siblings 😅
@@solgalex728 You're right and I fully agree that as rude as Isabela was to Mirabel, it's an accurate portrayal of a sibling relationship. I've got a younger sister myself and as I get older and reflect on how I treated her when we were little, I confess that I definitely wasn't the kindest sister to her 24/7, even at times taking advantage in knowing that I was the older sibling by relentlessly teasing her when some days, she really needed to be treated with kindness, spoken to with gentleness or simply just be left alone. Hindsight provides insight ✌ Now that we're both older, we both tease each other lol. But we do so knowing what each of our boundaries are. But that has only been achieved recently and that hasn't stopped us from having the occasional disagreement with each other from time to time and which have even turned into full-blown fights. But I personally believe one should always strive to empathize with their family members as much as possible, even if it ends up becoming a heated confrontation. I'd rather be thrust into understanding someone through a conflictive situation than bottle up my perspective on who I assume a person to be which is more often than not, incorrect.
@@madetobejade5361 Which is exactly what happened in the movie (specifically the scene in Isa’s bedroom). Once Isabella confessed to Mirabel her whole life she’s only lived for her family. We learn that Mirabel is the spoiled child in her eyes. The one who doesn’t have to make sacrifices for her family’s sake like she does. Maribel always calls Isa spoiled even though everything Isa has done is anything but selfish. Only when Isa is trying to let go of her expectations is when she basically tells Maribel she wants a real genuine connection with her. “I want something real, don’t you?” Not the connection they already have that’s built on the perceptions they have on each other because of family expectations. And look at the ending, they achieved it. They became more open with each other, helped each other and comforted Luisa together

0:02 if you look closely at the top of the balcony on the right side, you can see Bruno sitting down ^^ he's so cute
When you think about it, it's ridiculous that Mirabel was asked to leave the preparation to the other, gifted kids, because like...what do a lot of the gifts really have to offer here? Luisa's gift is the most useful -- she can move stuff. Isa has the flowers down. But what about the others? Super hearing does nothing for party prep. Pepa's weather actually hampers the work. Camilo's literally only as useful as anyone else, as it's his power to be anyone else (though, he's not shown to duplicate other gifts -- having two Luisa's would've been ultra helpful). Julietta's gift would only be useful if someone got hurt.
So what's Abuela's reasoning behind stopping Mirabel from helping? Not only that, but from helping in a way that has NOTHING to do with powers? She wasn't decorating with flowers, or trying to move something too heavy for her.
Her abilities, for this, are on par with half the powers, or better. She can sew and craft, probably better than most of her relatives. She's used to doing things without the help of a gift. Why isn't she helping her mother in the kitchen? What's wrong with her helping with the decorating? For crying out loud, there are other, non-gifted people helping. It doesn't make sense.
The only thing they have to shorthand this "unhelpfulness" is her being slightly clumsy. But that has nothing to do with being giftless. You can't tell me that she's useless when other gifts are so specific to certain jobs that, in the day-to-day, most are not going to be used at all.
The only one in constant use is Luisa (ironically, the only one who doesn't seem to look down on Mirabel).
Here's a bunch of things Mirabel could be doing, that has no real need for a gift (I mean, the Casita could do a lot of it, but anyway):
- cooking (just normal cooking - they have a tonne of guests coming. Julietta's going to be busy, she NEEDS help)
- making drinks (I mean, there's gonna be a lot of drinking going on)
- cleaning
- washing dishes
- setting up food tables
- non-flower decorating
- helping Antonio get ready
- whatever sewing needs to be done
- welcoming guests (like, normally)
- taking photographs
For a party like this, most of the work is in the kitchen. No one's gift is helping in there, not even Julietta's -- her power is to make the food have healing powers, not to help the actual cooking. Luisa's and Pepa's would be actively unhelpful (Luisa's shown to not know her own strength -- not helpful for setting up breakable glasses or doing careful cooking, and Pepa would make everything wet), Camilo would be only as helpful as a 17 year old boy (shapeshifting wouldn't do anything) and Dolores's gift would do nothing. Mirabel would be the perfect helper -- capable, smart, eager to help, and not off doing other things.
Mirabel has spent her whole life with the motto "make your family proud". She is shown to have a lot of hands-on skills, because she would've spent her time learning them to keep up in such a gifted household. I just don't understand in what world she'd be useless.
I swear Encanto is gonna be the Squid Game of Disney(quickly being popular)
