Swedish Air Force Saab JAS 39C Gripen pilot Maj Peter Fallén from F 7 wing of the Swedish Air Force, received the King Hussein Memorial Sword for best overall flying demonstration.
@@crazyjack000 I doubt your comment has any relevance for the rest of the world. I guess you missed the fact that JAS-39 has STOL capability and JF17 does not?
Yup Maj Peter Fallén is also regarded within the European stage as one of their finest display pilots if not the number 1, many peeps don't know this.....
This plane looks really nimble and quick, but what impresses me most is the ability of certain jets to yaw around their nose vertically like the F-18 in this same event. I don't know jack about aerodynamics and therefore I don't know what yaw around the nose tells about an aircraft, but it just looks cool because it looks like it's not supposed to be possible.
In dog fight you loose much energy in such a maneuver of high angle of attack (high pitch) and that gets you killed if you don't manage to fire a short range missile, gripen doesn't, it has low drag by design (delta wing and protruding gas outtake) so it can turn very tight without loosing to much energy, that gives it an edge in dog fight.
Saab Gripen is such a beautiful fighter plane and it is also really capable, just not stealth like the F-35 Lightning II. The question, however, is how much stealth the F-35 actually is in relation to modern Russian radars?
No one knows, thats why Turkey was not alowed to buy F35 because they have Russian S-400 missile systems and then everyone would now for the first time if stealth really works.
gripen is half the weight, it can turn faster than sukhois due to that, the only thing a sukhoi has over gripen is vector thrust, but it's pretty useless, in a dog fight you have to keep a high speed, which gripen can do, just look at the 1100 km/h 9g turn, looks like it's trickshotted.
ESP87 light jets and heavy jets are different things. You don’t compare a rifle to a pistol, or a truck to a motorcycle. It’s that simple. They are designed under different logic, and serve different purposes.
@@raminosonamandresy5825 It can, but not recommend, it can stall. I recommend going to airbases in Sweden when they practice, this is just a failsafe demo, during war exercises they do crazy maneuvers.
Hmm... not trying to be insulting but I found this particular display somewhat bland and boring. I've seen other JAS displays (also in Swedish hands) that felt much more impressive but perhaps there were limitations on this one because of clouds or something else? I get it, the plane can roll quickly but you don't have to do that 20 times for half the demonstration. It's an incredibly quick and nimble aircraft so I'd rather see more of that. High speed max turn loops and just hard turns in general (1:45 looks nice) are what makes this plane look the most impressive. As it stands in this particular showing the JAS display didn't hold a candle to the maneuvers of the F-18 despite being a much more agile plane.
What? Boring? May I say as a former fast jet pilot myself this display was amazing. What do you expect Jimmy? Kudos to this pilot he did an awesome job. You’re welcome!
I was there. Saw all kinds of Fighter Jets but there was NOTHING like the Gripen. Sound, Speed and manulevability. INSANE

Superb flying and superb recording ! What equipment did you use for this?
At 6:47... going from -3G to +9 in about a second :O
Awesome
what is the reg of this aircraft???

When on an airshow filming. Turn off AF and set it to infinite. You're welcome ;)

I hoped it was the E model flying☹
No, I dont think it was the latest version.

It's not even fully operational yet. They've just started integrating and testing all the tactical equipment.

Thank you👍
It was a C
This is what you call a proper flying display the F-16 however is trying to hard sell the plane by over flying it
JAS 39 E could win in a fight with the F35. Remember how the Hariers perfomed in the Falklands
Nice performance, to bad that they didnt do that pass when the turbine sounds like a laser blaster or something..
Its not the engine, its the vortex generators behind the canards...
Nice aircraft, better than american jets. The weather is always pretty rubbish at riat
Insanely maneuverable ! Not more than russian's Sukhoi but still incredible

Here is a maneuverable fighter fully loaded for war. The Gripen would be grounded with this load. ua-cam.com/video/r-_OWMDN64M/v-deo.html
It tried to take off like the JF-17 but failed miserably LOL.
I don't think so, Peter always start like this, only exception now was inverted.
ua-cam.com/video/bAT-SJHI1SE/v-deo.html Do you mean this aircraft? It looks much slower in general.
The F-16 is do much more powerful and maneuverable!
You wish.
Even Lockheeds own testpilots says that the Gripen would beat the F-16....
Gripen has beaten F16 several times.. Radar cross section is much less.. roll rate higher.. sustained turn rate is probably higher on a Gripen too
JAS Gripen chrushed the F16 5-0 at Red Flags war games.
In red flag Gripen, Rafael, EU-fighter was The best against f16, f15. Even f35 Will be in trubble. Gripen is still the protector of hole EU.
