- Part 2 of a video I shot in July 2015 at Kellingley Colliery, 2nd Level, 5 months before closure.
Part 2 includes the Huwood Gear Head, Skip Conveyor, Skips, The Pickle Jar (electricians cabin), Pit bottom substation, Loco Garage, A ride up the Shaft, Lamproom.
Apologies for the picture quality, my camera didn't like the dark.

You did a good job capturing all that footage, as now we are a country without any heavy industry. . 👍👍
Watching these underground video's always brings my memories rushing back. breaks my heart. I can close my eyes and walk miles of tunnels and gateways memories of knocking my knees up crawling the face when my knee pads rolled back, or one occasion when my toe cap was force's back whilst rushing to catch up with the snaker. yeah only us old lads know what I'm on about.
I've been checking out some of the old pits near me in south Wales. I feel gutted for these lads. They were a family and worked so hard. I reckon we may well regret turning our backs on coal one day. We've turned our backs on all our heavy industry and we're just not ready for it!
Absolutely mental all that is still down there. Criminal.
I worked there in 81-82 doing the breaks & shaft signals & then the new washery, barge loader. love you guys. Well see you again one day.
Brings back Memories, I was the paddy Guard at Grimethorpe Colliery 1987. Was the Best Job ever.
It’s like another world down there
And obviously all hard working men
No room for slackers👍👍
Really enjoyed this video ! 😀
Good video mate brings back a lot of good memories 👍
such shame all the pits have gone my dad worked at mavers pit as a fitter was going to work there with him till the govermet started closeing the pits great video but sad too
Oh how the government wished they hadn't cut all ties with coal now
They wont give a damn, they get all that tax from oil and gas.
Was the best job I ever had…..for 10 years at least, till they closed.
Great vids wormy
Amazing video wonder what it’s like down there now reckon it’s flooded now
old video? but it was 2 months ago only
@@Waterpark2340 kellingley closed down in Dec 2015 and this video is from mid 2015.

I have much respect for these blokes. Shame the mines closed. Would be good to see this mine now, may well be flooded if the pumps have been turned off. I visited a coal museum in wakefield and it was fascinating.
Agreed! I enjoyed it too. Most of the pits were closed in South Derbyshire by the time I was born, so being able to go down was fantastic. Makes you appreciate miners all the more.
Elevator to an even lower level? 07:50 ?
Is all the equipment still down there great video mate fascinating thanks for sharing
Yep...everything left down there...it's a crime.
@@oldnormyguy Most pits has everything left underground Sacralige Money wasted I know Ive been at 23 pits Sorry I had a job too do
its all left behind & kellingley was the last pit to close
They probably just turned every thing off left it all down and all of the poor miners lost their jobs
That's exactly what happened....it's criminal.
Was the coal takin out in tubs ????
No, the coal was taken out by conveyor belts via a drift entrance.
At Kellingley the coal went out via 2 skips up a vertical shaft
@@keepingitsimple9058 Thanks I thought that but I wasn't sure..
@@samensor-smith1062 Kellingley was a shaft mine not a drift .
@@Cxwl9 yes they had two shafts one for man riddling and one for supplies. There was a drift for the conveyor to reach the surface.
