    Youve explained in 32 seconds what other vids can't explain CLEARLY in hours. thanks.

    Your tangent while talking about people going on tangents made me laugh 😂

    After 1 minute I logged in and liked the video. After taking calc in highschool, going through trig and precal in college again, and now being back in calculus in college and not knowing this. I finally visually and completely understand this after only the first 2 minutes. Thank You

    This may be partially responsible for saving my whole Calculus course, thank you. Nicely done.

    I don't mean to be tangential, but I definitely wish I'd had known about your vids when I was in calc 1!

    This video explains what is the tangent line so clearly. Just one tip, remember that we can get the value of the pendent with the formula: y2-y1/x2-x1.

    Krista, thanks for the clear videos.
    Great job editing! Wish I could graph my functions as pretty as yours.. my parabola always look asymmetrical and generally drunk. Subscribed

    Great video! Now I just need to find a video that tells me what a derivative actually is and how they work. Thats one video that seems to be impossible to find.

      and when you learn what those actually are you'll love them...and be like "it was so simple all alomg.... why couldn't my teachers teach me this" watch khan academys playlist of derivatives..it helped me...especially "derivative as a tangent line" video

    does squaring/cubing/taking root of an equation effect the value of x?
    By the way your videos makes maths so simple.

    • @kristakingmath
      @kristakingmath  7 років тому

      As long as you do the same thing to both sides of the equation (ie, square both sides, cube both sides, etc), and you consider potential positive and negative solutions, then doing that stuff doesn't change the value of x. It's totally acceptable. :)

    Equation of tangent line (line that shares the slope of the curve at that point) can tell u rate of change of a curve at that specific point on its graph

  • @siriravijonnavittula1412
    @siriravijonnavittula1412 6 років тому +1

    What if the tangent touches the curve again at another point, like the tangent to the graph of Sine at the max value. Is it still called a tangent??

    • @kristakingmath
      @kristakingmath  6 років тому

      Yes, it's still a tangent because at each point where the line touches the graph, it touches it like a tangent. Only when the line CROSSES the graph is it considered a secant line there. :)

    Finally into Calc1 and entering week 3. We just went over 2.1 'The derivative and the tangent line problem' but to be honest, I cannot get past the first homework problem. I have spent 5 hours on it and cannot get it to equal whats in the back of the book. Times like this, its a struggle to stay focused.
    f(t) = 3t-t^2 , find Mtan of f(t) @ (0,0)
    I have done this 8 ways to Sunday (and it is Sunday) and cannot make sense of it. Very defeating, especially since I know its likely very simple. :-\

    • @kristakingmath
      @kristakingmath  7 років тому +1

      I've never seen a problem that asks you to find "Mtan". If that's really what it says, they might be asking for the tangent line, or maybe for the slope of the tangent line, m.

    • @StreuB1
      @StreuB1 7 років тому

      I wish I knew how to do subscripts.....m tan is what I meant, sorry for the confusion; slope of the tangent line. f'(x). Getting used to all these new ways to say and write things gets a touch confusing, esp when you're new to it. I spent 3 hours today in the math help area of the learning commons today at school and spent some time with a staff tutor (Its free!!! :-D ) and he was able to show me a way to look at the problem that immediately changed how my brain was viewing the problem and what I was getting hung up on.
      Teachers and educators have a crazy job....part of their amazing ability is not only to know and teach the topics, but also notice where a student is having trouble, recognizing why and then formulating a plan to coax their brain into understanding it. So, today was a good day in the end!!! :-D
      Thank you for replying BTW, Krista!

    • @kristakingmath
      @kristakingmath  7 років тому

      I'm so glad it turned out well! FYI, when you want to indicate subscripts, use the underscore, so m_tan. :) Your hard work is going to pay off... keep going, Brian! :)

      You can have a piece of my mind if you can find it. Mine just exploded at a minute 58 seconds into this video, be right back I'm going to go look up what a derivative is. I'd pick this up much better if we started out with what is 1 + 1 I suppose. I know that we can't know everything about everything in life I'm officially going to write this one off.... wow
