  • If you're looking for a replacement for the now discontinued Seiko SKX then the Turtle might be your best option.
This is my light hearted view on the demise of the SKX lineup, its Seiko 5 replacement's and why the SRPC91K1 or any other Turtle might be a better choice.
Feel free to offer other suggestions and give your thoughts on the Seiko Turtle range.
I have added a couple of links for the original and STO Turtle's, dependant on what is available in your region. Using the links will take you to Amazon where you can continue your search, any purchases will earn a commission for the channel.

I have a couple Seiko turtle including PADI in my collection. IMO, this SRPC91 has the best looking dial of all in my collection. The videos and photos you see online really dont do justice to this piece. You HAVE to see this particular model in person to appreciate the striking beauty it has to offer.

I own a Srp23k1, gray dial and its easily one of my favorite pieces, even though i have a smaller wrist. Awesome lume and a stunning sundial effect on the dial. The OG bracelet is alright but i usually wear it on a high quality gray silicone band, making the watch in unison with the dial and a lot lighter for practical reasons.

Great video, I can definitely see the quality of your videos getting better and better.
I have been looking for a bracelet for my STO but not pulled the trigger on any one yet, only options I've found so far have been my Uncle Seiko and Strapcode.
The difference between the two is that the Strapcode bracelet has a solid first link whereas the uncle Seiko is moveable.
Would like to see what you eventually go for.

Lucky enough to buy one brand new from a jewellers this year on sale (made in Japan version). Absolutely love this watch due to the dial & its asymetric colouring. I did wear it with an after market oyster type bracelet for a while, but got to admit the supplied rubber strap is the way to go - both for comfort and looks.

Hey great video!! You are one of the reasons I got into watches and as a high school student it’s fantastic to have a channel that promotes affordable quality watches! Anyways I have a question for you. I am seriously considering the Bulova Lunar Pilot but I have a 7 inch wrist and I’m afraid it will look clunky on my wrist. I don’t have a chance to wear it in person so I was wondering if you think it would be too big since you’ve had a chance with it in your hands:))

    • @whipydip99
      @whipydip99 4 роки тому

Bulova have made some great quartz pieces now, and doesn't receive the attention it deserves. I'd say pull the trigger. Just try it on and don't take any the plastic off or anything, and you can return it if it doesn't sit right on your wrist.

I picked up A Heimdallr pvd\gold tuna 1000m 2 weeks before the sale. Price was amazing at the time as it's a store I've bought from a few times previously. Got it cheaper than their 11.11 sale price! I bought a Heimdallr bronze turtle on leather, Heimdallr pilot with an NH35A on leather, 2 Carnival dress watches (gifts) with an NH36 and an NH35 in them. Both have sapphire crystals. I also picked up an oddity, A Benyar automatic that Gary at ILW reviewed. Was so cheap, I had to buy it. Likely will be a gift. But, ya never know!!!

    Hello again Last Watch
I don't know if you will receive this message or not following on from my recent correspondence relating to my issues regarding a Tudor Black Bay. Anyway as a watch nerd and having just watched your review of a recent Turtle I was glad to note your comments relating to the lume on the "back end" of the seconds hand on divers watches which can give the impression of a 30 second inaccuracy. I am not a diver nor ever will be in all likelihood but as no doubt you and your followers will be aware it is a requirement under ISO 6425 that a diver has lume on the second hand to indicate that the watch is still working. Meantime I would welcome a review from you on the Prospex Sumo SPB 125J1.

      @@LastWatch Hello Last Watch
Apologies for the delay in my response, but as you will no doubt appreciate other things are going on in the world at present which make watches etc a secondary issue. Having said that the issue regarding the Tudor is ongoing, albeit on pause at present for obvious reasons. Mean time I have acquired one of the limited edition (7000no!!?) Seiko SOB 125J1. Beautiful piece for the money. The finish of the case is spectacular for a watch of its cost.

Wow - my 775 is a 2-3 seconds a day and I regulate by how I leave it at night - facing up if losing time, sideways crown down if gaining time. So I never have to reset the time barring date changes or DST. So your timing needs to settle down - wear it all the time and it will be fully wound which helps with the timekeeping.

I’ve not had hands on with the SKX, it’s considered a tough watch and a real workhorse, It does unfortunately show its age with regards to the movement. As it is now selling at a premium, you may be better off spending your money on a turtle. I have a colleague that opted for the older watch as it was ultimately what he liked, my advice is always to buy what makes you happy

1st i'll start with like the vids all well presented & down to earth, but i just can't get on with the turtles aesthetically plus its only recently iv'e eventually been partly considering the skx but with its dated movement & dare i say it unrefined dial ( i can feel the bruises from the pelted rotten veg already ) plus its cost hike since its discontinuation there's enough choice out there for better bang, but if i was to buy a "skx replacement" it would be the Islander as that to me is what the skx should have evolved into and is a complete example of a quality diver for a similar price of the turtle but with sapphire & plenty more .here layeth the no brainer, but we don't all like marmite do we? hehe.

NVM the unsigned crown. Still neither sapphire crystal nor a ceramic bezel. Considering that micro-brands manage to offer these features at prices far below the turtle, this is a bit ridiculous. How much more can it cost a manufacturing giant like Seiko to include these two features? Which really is a pity because sapphire alone would make this one a no-brainer for me ... such a good looking watch. Even though the cheapest one I can find over here is around €370.

Orient offers more value. I really can't see myself buying this turtle while the Orient Triton is findable under €300 and is superior to the turtle in every way.....
Not even need to bring microbrands there.

Before the "SKX discontinue hype" and sellers cashing in on that with ridiculous over the top pricing, I could easily pick up a SKX for under AU$350 from the grey market.
So how can this Turtle be a replacement for the SKX at around AU$550 plus on the grey market?

The turtle is not a replacement and never was. It's just a better watch just like every other Prospex watch. The turtle had the better dials, better bracelet and limited editions. The main reason people chose the SKX over the turtle is the case design and size. Also I believe the new SKX is better than the old one. It's just dissapointing that Seiko couldn't provide more for that money.

Great video, look like they turned out to be a big hit. As very few people ever use a diving watch for diving anyway, 100 metres is fine for the new 5Kx watches. . I dive myself and like 99.99% of scuba divers I use a dive computer, not a dive watch as a dive watch cannot give you all the information to keep you safe...the 0.01% who say they use it for diving probably don't dive below 30 metres if they don't use a dive computer.....or more likely don't dive at all.

@@LastWatch That's true, but in reality the type of activity such as swimming, snorkeling, shallow diving even to 20-30 metres or so will be just as secure with 100m resistance. It's probably why the watches were so successful, there's enough protection for most people and those who do serious diving don't use dive watches. However I can understand the nostalgia attached to having 200m printed on the face. Even if it's not necessary, it's nice to have.
