- So you thought that you could just buy a boat, set sails South and enjoy some Pinot Grigio at sunset every day on the beach? Yeah. I did. And then I ended up in a spermatozoid costume crawling under a keel to try painting it.
Yeah....

Sophie bring baked goods to the office!!! Them take baked good to the travel lift operators. 😊 How come you don’t know that?
YIEKS! I want to be onboard when my boat goes back in. I've never heard of not being onboard. I know where to look. Your at the mercy of the quality of marina worker they have on staff. Scary.
Thanks 4 sharing 🙂
Hey Ryan if you can get sea worthy till you get to NY i will go over and replace the thru hulls remaining for promotional considerations with North Shore Mobile Marine
I do most of my own boat work, feels good and it builds a skill set that may be called upon when you are off shore. But anything going through the hull i contract out. 20 years of this, seems to be the best path. I see myself being exactly where you are otherwise. you will figure it out im sure.........cool channel. sorry for the 20/20 hindsight.........
Next time maybe change below waterline fittings to composite, I.e. Trudesign, Marelon (better for corrosion, electrolysis). Cheaper PVC/nylon is OK above waterline & internal.
Thank you for being concerned about the environment! Safe travels ❤️
This West Marine shop looks amazing.
The "I feel hot" is the kind of joke which you can't hide your fingerprints Sophie.
The day you needs to be inside is sunny and hot and the day you need to paint it rains just because this is sailing life but at least Polar Seal is shinning.
Terribly sorry and not trying to be crass, but Ryan at 16:44 brought back constipation memories...lol. Another great video and wonderful to have you back with us.
HAHAHAHA 🤣🤣🤣
Given how many htings need maintaining and replacing on boats, I am amazed how awkward it is to work on them. I guess boat builders sell the visible stuff and most people don't think about the years of maintenance that awaits them.
Sophie a small challenge for you
Since you are going to sailed all the time are you going to grow food on sail boat in 5 gallons food grade buckets ? I am sure you are catching fish to eat and left over you barrier as a fertilizer in the buckets and if you use electroculture from elevated cultivated then you need 5-7 food grade buckets for what you need for basics food salad bars, tomatoes, peppers, if you do hot and sweet they will cross pollinate so do sweets and hot Seperet, cucumbers, eggplants, watermelon, salad bars between okra, potatoes, sweet potatoes, onions or chive’s and garlic, ginger & turmeric you can do buddy vegetable it will save space and you grow more spectacular vegetables because organic gardening is the best so do it please do it, Basel, menthol, peppermint, comfrey , Yomogi plant for liver and kidney, dandelion for liver and salad, time, lavender, even lemon trees in buckets with plenty of organic fertilizer, you can add to Seperet bucket or mix in with vegetables but peppermint is growing like weed be aware and you have fresh food at all time and plenty of fish left over as a fertilizer and shower water instead of dump in oceans you water the plants and no don’t make holes in the buckets I didn’t and they growing actually better because nutrients stay in the buckets instead of out in the soil, you have so much minerals on you and they could use minerals. I hope you try or consider or to think about it !! Please do!!

With electroculture and this soil mix I am telling you it will be spectacular success and fun to grow in the boat
And I am curious how the plants will adapt of course you will have make videos and to pollinate yourself your plants with pain brushing but it’s so worth!!!!
I hope that sparked at least an idea a potential possibility and also the way to be successful and to be food Self sufficient when everything is going up on the price!!

thanks guys, always enjoy your content.
Planning on changing those suckers next winter. Why no composite? What are your thoughts?
I have a half used tube - from last time I changed through hulls.... Ryan is welcome to it.
Since you won’t be there when it goes in the water, I would suggest closing the sea cocks on the through hulls you just replaced. That won’t fix a leaking through hull from flooding your boat, but it will allow you to be present when you open them to check your inboard plumbing connections; which I would guess would be the most common failure point.
Merci!
I have watched many cruisers replacing through-hole connections and I cannot believe no one is making much bigger fittings with the same sized ID!!! Like well drop pipe is schedule 80. Most other water pipe is schedule 40. Having a thicker fitting has to make the entire fitting stronger!!
I'm a pipe fitter so schedule means something to me but most of these sailing folks are hearing this for the first time😮
You probably should use a respirator specifically made for painting.
Sophie is the most incredible woman on the ocean. I'm sure Ryan knows this.
Great video like always. I hope the splash went without issues.
Epic episode of life on the HARD! Sofie is amazing as she single handedly takes on the most difficult tasks of painting and waxing her hull. With Barnacle the dog, the challenges ahead are both provocative and dramatic. This is a must see channel which explains in detail the various pitfalls of owning a Beneteau. I walked away with positive thoughts, mostly the inspiration received by Sofie gave me strength to endure. Thanking you both is surely not enough and therefore I must PayPal you for expenses incurred while general maintenance was performed under duress. I await your next adventure, namely launching without notification.
Measure twice cut once isnt just about cutting, people forget that.
Sophie, you may not know that Home Depot stores will price match competitors--including Amazon. This weekend I bought $30 parts at Home Depot, matched the $20 same item from Lowes. Home Depot often is very overpiced.
Hi could you put a geo tag on your boat with an alert when it moves so you can hurry down to see it launch?
Cheers Warren
I don’t even want to watch this video. From simple soon to launch in spring, it’s already 2 weeks almost on daily basis visiting my boat and doing work. Before I was laughing you call maintenance projects, now I understand if something can’t be finished in one day it’s already a project. One thing leads to another whether it’s a drying time or anything else or a sudden newly discovered issue. I finally understand that owning a boat means either you have spare money to pay the yard to do the job or just lot’s of freee time and also some money and patience learning from mistakes and being angry and then happy about oneself.
Heat gun for plastic hoses..
Oh wow that’s something that you can’t be there when they splash
💯
11:26 new emergency outboard engine?
👍
Need some of that cursing agent
Hahaha 😂
Did you consider Marelon thru hulls vs bronze? ABYC certified and no corrosion issues.
I have watched y’all from the start. If you have any other wish list jobs drop me a line.
We have interacted before if you recall. If not dinner on me in Manhattan. I am doing a complete retrofit on my Ron Amy 39’ and it eats up all my money. 😢. You know that gig.
Hopefully the boat is in the water and not the other way around.
I like you congratulations
Sophie bet when you call home they say you sound American now, as you have lost 2% of your accent. Nice paint job.
Don't say " in the water " (that would bad) on the water would be better 😉
Why don’t you use true Design sea cocks for your boat?
They are very popular and easy to mount.
Good luck.
By the way,
I own an Océanis 40 2008 Year three cabin and it sails perfect.
Bought it in 2021 in bad condition.
Now certified for commercial worldwide use. 🌎
SY Alexia 🙋♂️
Brass fittings have always been way to expensive, nice work on the boat.
I hope they're bronze, not brass!
@@aaronnunn5240 they are
Experience you cannot buy it but you do pay for it.
Can you help settle a debate between my husband and I? He thinks you repainted the whole hull with anti foul and just patched the Primers, I think you patched everything. (Context- I’m pro switching to silicone anti fouling when ours comes due next season and trying to show him that it works/isn’t going to be super expensive). Also what brand do you use?
Ah man, I hate to do this… your Hubbie is right 🥹 we only patch up the primer, but covered the full hull with two full coats of silicon
Aww damn well there goes my not that expensive argument 😆 , guess I’ll have to go hard down the “it’s not literally toxic” path
sorry, leaving you b/c i have to get my own life in order. hopefully i'll be back soonish :-) aka next yr.
Polar Seal is looking Great ! 👍 That Silic One antifoul is now competing with Pettit Vivid for going on my next boat. tbh, , Like Zinc, I only worry about Copper Deficiency, as Copper is pretty damned essentialnfor Life - my Smallholding is in a seriously Copper Deficient Belt and the extent ofmthe nasty, is Neighbouring Sheep Farmers, Ive helped with regular Copper Drenches, plus Solod Copper Tablets for Cattle and Horses, and I still take Copper supplements to be on the safe side. This vital role of Copper, never gets Mentioned though. Seeing sheep with brain damage we call the Staggers due to Copper Deficiency, is a real turn off tbh. It ay be a flip of the coin which one I try first, but I do like 3 coats of Vivid, being ablecto be burnished to a high gloss finish, plus you can get it in White. Decisions decisions. Best Wishes and hoping for a ice fast boat splash with no issues. Bob. 👍⛵️✨️✨️✨️
It is frustrating to see you complain so much about such simple repairs.
I probably violated community guidelines with my last post.
sarcasm is good when used sparingly and judiciously. people who are sarcastic all the time are tacky and cringe
I am an engineer in the US....I love your episodes , but this face mask....wtf are you doing man?!
