    The main reason for placing a larger alt pulley size is for more Amps at idle. It will also charge more quickly at highway speeds, with good longevity, on light demand. And very good for quick charging multiple battery arrangements, especially with deep cycles. Or like on a tow truck with lots of lights.
    You're good with your puller bro'. Tap the socket with a hammer while it's under tension. Should just pop off. Good job bro'!

      Appreciate all the info brother. I honestly didn’t know any of that. This new one was on here for about 600 miles and it seems like it’s doing good. I will still try to take that bigger pulley off because it’s bothering me that I wasn’t able to do it.

    That little bit of play in the alternator will cause you to go through those serpentine belts. I had the same problem. Just that little bit of movement I was going through those belts about 1 belt a month. I had to replace the front plate on the motor because the alternator bracet worked it's way lose and caused the bolt holes to oval and wouldn't tighten completely. I like the 60 series. It's got some power but that alternator bracet design is a real pima!!

    • @OTRBandit
      @OTRBandit  2 місяці тому

      I will definitely have to check that out again because I did not think that play was right. Old alternator didn’t have it. Yeah this is my favorite engine Detroit 60 easy to work on and very cheap to repair.

    use a tortch and heat up that aluminum poelie. use like before the puller, and put it under tension, heat the poulie up than hit the long bolt from the poulie with a hammer.
    bet you 50 bucks she wil come of to easy my friend.
    good luck and safe driving.
    Aluminum compared to iron, has a larger expansion coefficient than iron.. and i mean a lot larger.
    so if you heat that poulie up by 100 degrees CELSIUS or even 200 , that thing wil just about fall of by itself.

    I would have thought the puller would have removed the pully from the alternator? I have never changed the alternator on my truck. I have thought about changing the alternator or getting one and having a spare with me. Just in case I know it will eventually give trouble. I definitely agree before doing the alternator change out disconnect the batteries. I have battery switches on my truck. I turn the switches off anytime I'm going to be away from the truck any extended period of time.

      How's it going I'm doing pretty good well this morning I got hella pissed off at a regular pick up truck at Walmart in grants pass Oregon well my mom took us 2 go get stuff at Walmart and as we were leaving a semi truck was trying 2 make a wide right turn off of Terry Lane and 2 avoid going over a small concrete medium this stupid fool decided 2 pass him on the right bye going over a couple of curbs and a sidewalk and I fucking started yelling at the full size pick up 4 doing that and both my mom and wife said that the semi truck driver was wrong 4 turning so wide and my wife always brings up the fact that she was a daughter of a semi truck driver and she thinks he doesn't need 2 do that and my mom also said that if he can't make it in one lane then he needs 2 hang up his CDL driver's license so we pulled along the side of the regular fully size pick up truck and I started cussing him out 4 almost causing an accident with the semi truck driver that was making the wide right turn and I flipped off the other driver in the fully size pick up truck and my mom and wife were saying that in my eyes truckers can't do anything wrong but sorry 4 the language yeah usually if I'm driving I'll back up 4 u guys because i know u need all that room 2 turn and my mom said what I do is differently illegal but I just wanted 2 share what happened this morning please have a good day and safe travels

      @@gregulrey1821 you are definitely right, Greg. A lot of times we will need to make a very very wide turn whenever we are making a right turn. Sometimes that means turning right from the left lane but it has to be done safely. You have to block about half a right lane with the rear of your trailer. Swing your truck into the left lane and then make a right turn. You stay safe out there buddy and take care of yourself. Don’t argue with too many people. There are too many crazies out here with guns and everything. Stay safe my friend.

    😂 That pully needs to be sprayed with WD-40 & left to sit over night 🌙 then maybe with a vice & some torch 🔥 you could get it off with the milwaukee. Baked on is right ✅️ They do this to try to force guys 👦 like you to pay 💵 💸 💰 You worked 💪 around the problem which was smart. Whenever you take out for example those 4 bolts 🔩 on the alternator hit them all up with some ANTI SEIZE compound to keep them from breaking due to rust & or heat weakens the metal over time. The same deal on your shocks replacement video 📹 next time hit those studs with Anti Seize. It's cheap & only takes a minute.

      I did spray some WD-40 on that alternator and it’s been sitting at the house ever since. I haven’t tried taking it off just yet, but I might do that this weekend when I come home. That’s a good point about anti size. Should have definitely used it on those.
