    I live in Florida, USA and have a co-worker with a cockney accent. She told me that a lot of people here somehow mistake it for an Australian accent. I have to admit hearing a cockney accent in person is an odd experience for me. It's a pretty 'extreme' accent to my American ears and you only hear it in television and movies over here, making it seem almost fictional.

      @@victorian-dad LOL apparently I'm the only American who knows about the sound of the bells thing. I guess there aren't many people watching BBC America over here. The hilarious part is Cockney and Australian are about as far apart as you can get when it comes to English dialects. We Americans are a friendly and curious lot when it comes to people visiting from far away and mysterious places, and I hope you enjoyed your visit from the down under...😁😁

    Pretty good lesson to be fair, I work away In London 5/6 months out of the year so I’ve picked up the accent, mainly central London so it’s a bit hoity toity.
    I miss my Yorkshire accent but moving to north west England at a young age changed it. Geordie accent is pretty difficult but similar to certain pronunciations that southerners use. There’s at least 40 completely different accents in the uk, 10 miles down the road some could be speaking completely different, especially Birkenhead and Liverpool or Glasgow and Edinburgh, close but very different

      It would make more sense if you called it an English accent. By calling it a British accent, he would also have to sound Scottish and Welsh. As England Scotland and Wales make up Britain.

    • @TheWondering
      @TheWondering 8 років тому +2

      All those parts of the UK that you mentioned are places in England. Therefore they are English accents. Not British.
      America has many different accents and is classed as the American Language because America is classed as one country.
      The welsh especially so, do not speak English, they speak welsh. Welsh is their first language , which is a completely different language to English.
      You are saying is that the welsh language is British. That is completely wrong.
      I suggest you listen to someone speaking Welsh.
      So.....the Welsh language is guess what......Welsh. NOT British.
      England Scotland And Wales are all classed as seperate Countries. Just like America and Canada.
      I speak English because i was born in England.
      And i definitely do not speak Welsh.
      So as i just correctly pointed out.
      There is no such thing as a British language.

    • @TheWondering
      @TheWondering 8 років тому +1

      fooloof wow you spoke to two welsh people? wow
      Well fool i live in the Chester area which is classed as North Wales.
      I know many Welsh people from all parts of Wales.
      Most people do speak Welsh, not English. They only speak the English language around English people.
      lol at mug.
      It is you who are the mug.
      Do you know what the word United means?!
      It means together, have a look in the dictionary you might learn something.
      You seem to not understand what a simple word like United means.
      You sure need to learn what English words mean before you start an argument in English.
      It is a Kingdom made up of three countries.
      And guess what...its united.
      Plus where according to my logic, did i say i don`t think there is a United kingdom?
      You don`t know how dumb you sound.
      You are digging yourself further into a hole.
      You should at least bring a valid argument.
      All you sprout is stuff that does not make any sense at all.

    • @TheWondering
      @TheWondering 8 років тому

      *****
      1) You did not read what i said. I said, around the Chester area. Which is North Wales. I did not say i live IN Chester.
      2) I bet you just googled that 1 in 5 speak it.
      In fact that is correct for the younger population.
      Most of the older population though speak Welsh as their main language.
      Even if it was true that most do not speak it, welsh is their own language,
      and by saying it is not their language is just stupidity.
