Hi Scotty, my friends said that my rpm on my 2010 civic hybrid shouldn’t be above 4000, is that true? Will it hurt the engine if it goes up to 6000?

Drive an 07 manual civic with 255k in the winter. Got it for 3K in 2020 with 220k on it. My summer car is a 92 Formula with 220k on it.
Once I was told that people get the HIGHEST percentage of stroke and heart attack going to their jobs Monday morning... Maybe there isn't too much fun there
I had a 92 Civic....got it in 98 for 3400. Had 157,000. Drove it for 12 years. Acted like I got rid of it. Had a shop fully restore it. Took my son to look for a car and took him to the shop. He said wow Dad, that looks like your old car! He still has it!

Scotty, Honda hoods already do that. That hood has a second location for the hood prop. I showed my dad this on his 2019 Ridgeline. He didn't know this either, and he worked on cars his whole life but is now retired.

I have a 07 Civic with 412k on her and she still runs like it’s new! Change the transmission fluid every 60 and drive her easy most of the time is the key!
Dear Scotty, Love your thoughts and work, I had the 412k Civic welded and I not sure if the tires will wear properly. So I am look for a 100k, 07 to 11 Civic to replace it. Just worried about scammers that can change the odometer. Do you have any advice in this matter. Thanks for your hard work and perseverance!

Driving a 2005 Scion XB with a1.5 L VVTi Toyota engine. Currently have 237,750 miles with the original transmission and engine. Changed battery, tires and break pads. AC still working fine. Love this car.
same here. but only 134k miles. manual trans. only big job was having to have clutch cables, clutch master and slave cylinder replaced. other than that, no big repair/replacement jobs

Old cars are the best,I have a 2005 Nissan sentra bought it with 50,000 miles on it ,now has 416,000 miles on it runs like great still today, it probably going to out last me
The Volvo moose is one I've always wanted. So is the Civic, especially at these days gas prices. I think they both look good too, same w/the Corolla if it's the hatch version. I actually love anything that defies planned obsolescence.

What, Civic good? Omg, the Civic i had was a gas guggler that competed with my classic fullsize Caprice V8. Buy European if you want to save gas snd have reliability, VW and Audi are superior in every way
@@pflaffik Are you trolling us.? Lol. VW, Audi and other Euro models have style, but are incredibly expensive to fix. Not to mention all of the cheap plastic that they use doesn't hold up in the heat in the US. Never again will I buy another VW, as long as I live in Texas. Everything plastic broke. From the side view mirrors, to the window controls, to the a/c actuators, to the door handles. The A/C systems are weak the transmission was jerky. I, and my sister had Jettas, and those things are rolling piles of crap. Just say NO.

We had the 90's Echo. Terrible car but it lasted for ever lol
I agree with you, we had one for 8 years and we only changed the oil and the spark plugs and tires in that 8 years!
Bought my 2013 civic in 2019. Had 59k miles on it at that time. Now has 110k miles on it. Other than maintenance only parts that were replaced were the rear shocks and serpentine belt. That’s it! Car runs and drives so smooth. I know for a fact it’ll pass 250k miles without major repairs. Keeping it till the wheels fall off. Probably get another car when it gets over 200k but still keeping it as a spare car. Remember maintenance is key! If you want your car to last a long time
Civic Headliner ... My dad had a sagging headliner too. But he used Decorative thumb tacks instead of clear ones, and placed the thumb tacks at equally spaced distances apart and strategically placed them to allow the headliner to droop in sections and it looked EXACTLY like Stuffed Crush Velvet! When I touched it, the material flexed inward because it was hollow behind it, inside. BUT it LOOKED like it was stuffed with a pad, Just like the older crushed velvet. He used Gravity to make it look like it was stuffed crush velvet. Totally amazed me!

Scotty show GM some love. My '05 Grand AM 4 cyl ecotec has over 350,000 miles. I bought it for 1700 bucks in 2018. Junkyard has endless parts because Cobalts, Cavaliers, Aleros and some Saturns all had the same engine. Easy car to work with.
Bro, in 05 the grand ams had 2 engine types: 2.2 4 cylinder and the 3.5 v6. The 2.2 was a die hard, but it's def not an ecotec. The ecotec was a hunk of 💩.

Years ago I bought my wife a Honda Civic. I think it was a 95 model. That little car (1.5 liter 4 banger) had only 25K miles on it. Got an average of 51.5 mpg. Lowest I ever got was 48.9 in winter, and best was 53.6 in summer. We had that car till 224K miles, when I gave it to a friend with a big family in need of a car. They ran it for several more years. At around 200K I decided to check the mileage again, and for three tanks in a row it averaged 52.5 mpg. It only had a 10 gallon tank, and we routinely ran it 375+ miles before filling. Never repaired a single thing either. Only wearing parts, like exhausts and brakes.
I got a 70 Chevelle. I get 1,000 mpg ! 🤣😝😜🤪😂😆

My in laws had one they wouldn't drive "they thought unsafe because no airbags" but refused to sell it or to sell it to me. Then ... they sold it like 5 years later to a neighbor. Still pisses me off

Those civics are really well built. My cousin has 150k miles and runs and drives perfectly.
my toyota corrola, WAS a 93 5 speed manual, almost 30 years , one clutch replacement, ran perfect when they picked her up today, fug hit me and they totaled it, they drove it up to the tow truck, great freaking car, no issues, ac still worked, bullet proof
I have a 2005 Crown Victoria Police Interceptor with 220k on it. She’s still a beast. Best police car ever made. The 4.6 V8 will run forever.
Probly the best engine ford ever made.

I think that's the 2 valve, I have a Mustang GT with the 4.6 3V, I think it's the same engine, mine has 145k running strong
I had the 4.6 in a lincoln town car. Ran like a top and got better hwy miles up to 27 mpg. Such a boat but amazing engine. The body fell apart way before the engine. Sold it at 150 k stromg.

i work with a car lot an we have an 07 with 91k miles an 2k hours. runs like a top ive driven it for hours with no issues. debating buying it for myself as im sick of working on my cars every month when something breaks lol
I love to see my dear Corolla also in the list I am owning it since 2013. Here in India it is considered as a luxury car.
Honda Civics are my favorite cars, especially the older ones! They've got a specific look and live forever. It's the kind of car that generally tells me the driver could be a real babe magnet.
My partner of 9 years charmed me with an '06! 😆 We were gonna take it to 300K, but it got crushed by a lady who was on her phone instead of paying attention to the stoplight..
I bought a 96 hatchback for cheap, I fell in love with it. super simple cars.
I'm not sure if you've ever owned a Honda Fit, but the damn things run forever, and if you already like civics, then you'll love the fit too!

So when I left to start a new career I had to have a vehicle, so I just bought a cheap Honda Fit, and I've been amazed by how reliable and dependable that car is! Especially after joining the Facebook fit forums, where I've learned that the car will routinely go 300k 400k 500k miles

I never could understand why people were so loyal to the big 3 ( Ford, Chevy, Dodge). Why not buy the car that provides the most value, dependability, and reliability? I think the big 3 realize that many Americans will remain loyal customers, no matter how shitty of an experience they provide their customers.
They know that their loyal customers cannot possibly be swayed, no matter how notoriously reliable the automobiles of their Japanese counterparts are.

Most Hondas have a second hood prop hole that allows the hood to be opened like that. Most people probably never noticed.

The hood strut on the eighth generation civic actually has another position so you can push that hood all the way up in the way you showed. 1:36
Honda Fit does too.
Correct. You can put the prop further down on the hood which gives you better access to the back of the engine. Always checking for oil leaks.
Yeah my 03 Civic EU8 already has that feature.

I have a 2005 Saturn Ion with 710,00 kilometres (441,200 miles!). It still runs great! Original motor, and parts. Only the alternator and shocks have been replaced. My secret? Frequent oil changes with synthetic oil, and using premium gas.
A deeper buy guide would be a case by case scenario.
I had a 08 town car with 400k miles outlast my 91 accord from NY. Also my BMW motorcycle has 120k miles and has no issues. Maintenance goes a long way.
Years ago, we has a 2002 RSX (not a type S) come into the shop with 575000 miles on it. Original owner and he said it was the original engine.
I have a 2009 Honda Civic I bought for $2,100 at 190,000 miles from my brother and besides basic maintenance, the car has served me well for 3 years. I’m at 209,000 miles hoping to get to at least 250,000 before buying a new car
Bought a Pontiac Vibe/ Matrix new in 2004, traded in 2016. Absolutely no issues, tires ,brakes and battery, were only things needing change. Had 150 thousand miles.
The Vibe is almost criminally underrated. Inherited my dad's 2005 AWD (yes, I live in a place where AWD is actually a necessity) and it's a tank. Sure, it's got a Pontiac shell, but it's a Toyota where it counts. Only 130K and with some vigilant rust maintenance could easily go for another 10 years since the parts are so easy to come by.
Honda's S2000s had a similar trick with the hood prop, and it was supported on a stock S2000. The hood could be opened all the way like that.
I would definitely fix that leaky exhaust at the very least. It’s a health hazard if CO gets into the cabin. There’s a fine line between frugal or being cheap. This isn’t the time to be cheap.
Got a 07 Civic for my daughter in 2011 with 65k miles. She drove it about 80k miles but never fixed anything. Sold it cheap, kind of sad
Everyone I know who had one of those Volvo XC90's had major problems and lots of them! Especially the automatic transmissions!
I have a 1995 Honda Odyssey with over 300,000 miles on it. It isn’t pretty but still runs great!
I have the 2012 civic. Same 1.8L engine. Sounds like brand new 12 years later and almost 100,000 miles. No leaking anything. No issues whatsoever. It’s really like new.
All cars in the US should come with mandatory all-time running lights because most of our drivers are too stupid to turn their lights on when they should (rain, dusk, fog, etc.).

Toyota Yaris, awesome cars. Easy oil change and takes 3 1/3 quarts of oil. I change the oil every 5k with full synthetic. Just changed the brake pads for the first time at 130k. 2 kids learned to drive on it, one drove it over a stone wall. Little beast of a car and gets amazing gas mileage

my brother had 3 crashes in the yairs and written off 2 cars runs like a champ the final one he had he scraped it :( i would of took it if i had room and repaired it i love my yairs 2004 just repaired the rear sill first time its looking good ill be never getting rid of it love it too much such a under rated car they will go forever as long as you do a little for them

As a Honda Accord driver, I don't think they look too bad, mine's at nearly 350k miles and has only had the trans replaced once, otherwise it's only needed the recent airbag recall and a loud exhaust to really make it feel like a well engineered beast
We bought our oldest daughter a Honda Civic that needed a new front end when she was 16. My husband teaches auto body so he picked it up for $500, and he fixed it like new for $200 more. She zipped around in that thing for years. It ran and ran. I believe she drove it for at least 10 years with very little maintenance. It had a ton of pick up and was fantastic on gas. Great little car.

When I was a teenager and had my first job (many years ago) a guy I worked with loved volvos, he spent all his money and time buying banged up Volvos and fixing them up. He would be rock hard at that v8

Hi Scotty, love your videos. I m 71 living in Montreal and still like to do some maintenance on my dig this 2007 Toyota Matrix, 120,000 Klms. and still going. Just a little rust on back drivers side fender and I think the yearly rust treatment is paying off.

I owned a 2006 civic like that. Water pump broke I think and the belt broke too, but Honda fixed all of it as it was under some sort of recall. Props to whoever owns that Corolla ! I love Minions!! :D

the little spiral pins that your grandma used to keep doilies on the arms of her couch work better for the headliner.
The early 2000 civics such as the EP actually do have two positions for crop rod with one having the hood almost completely vertical
The Honda owner should have gotten the other front side panel replaced as well, then it could look like a two tone car.
If you're just going to ignore the airbag sensor codes, leaves arguably the most important part of buying a car out, which is safety.
My sons 2013 Honda Civic lx just passed 200,000 and hasn’t put a dime into it except for normal maintenance
The hood already goes vertical on 90 percent of Hondas , I’ve got an 2008 civic and the hood goes vertical and it’s even got a hole for the prop rod
my 2007 civic Si had a new actuator, tranny, clutch, and bearing since 2010. BUT I drive it like I stole it, and it drives like new at 165k miles.

I drive a 30 year old Toyota and the paint is barely starting to wear out and I changed out all the worn parts. Reliable cars can last a long time if they get proper maintenance in and out.

It's crazy to be looking at these cars as 'old' or 'older' I loved my gen8 civic (both b18 and fa5). Both my current cars are Lexus 2011s, love them too.

Our honda Freed just got sold yesterday. 196K . We decide to sale it before it reaches 200k 😆. 2x ac service, the rest is limousine! Flushed the transmission oil once. Many² times we got almost empty oil. But not even one smoke coming from the exhaust!

I have a 2004 hyaundai accent 4 Cyl and it is a very very tough little car. It just keeps running and running. I do the minimal to no maintenance, run it until it’s very low on oil before adding more. Same with coolant, it does not use much of either one. I am embarrassed to admit all of my failings do to laziness and it’s a little worse than I am admitting to. On time I accidentally drove over a high curb decider head on up one side and down the other. I freaked out about my stupidity, no damage to muffler or oil pan, no leaks suspension good. It looks a lot like you’re Honda. I cannot say enough good about it.
My 2011 Civic EX with 78k miles in showroom condition, oil never half dirty and brand new Michelins will be passed down to my daughter and would probably handed down again to her kids someday if EVs are not everywhere by then.
My grandma has the same car now that she had when I was a kid. I’m 22 now. That car does not stop kicking

They actually make a spray for headlingers, you spray and squeegee and done!
My Mazda BT 50 ute is 16 years old & everything still works as when it was new.
I would never go back to Volvo. I bought a used 2004 XC90. 6 cylinders with turbo. Transmission went out at 60k miles. It cost me $3k(half of bill, other half went to warranty)to fix. Sold it soon after. Any cars that break down that early, I'll never look at again. All my toyota, never broke down. Just normal maintenance done. Love them!

In the early 90s a guy I worked with had a Civic. The odometer stopped working at 350k miles and it had well over 400k mi on it. I went through three cars and he still was driving his trusty Civic to work every day.
I have a honda civic older than that a coopee that's how we say it but in ex condition 38000 miles don't care they are good engines you have those with all the gadgets waiting to fail and let you down newer cars already breaking down ?
Honda has done that for years. Look on the Passenger side of the hood.
I just bought a 2006 honda civic manual transmission with 312,000 km already and still runs like a dream. Hoping to take it to 500,000 or so with regular oil changes and regular break pad, suspension, bearing replacement on my own.
I love cars like this. I get a big kick out of laughing at the idiots, blasting past me in their $75K pickups--must have Punisher skulls on rear windows. Lol! My $4K Toyota was paid for with a cashier's check, and runs great!
HONDA does make their hoods that way now. There's 2 positions for the arm to fit into and one of them makes the hood almost 90°.
I bought a 2020 Honda Civic and it is the best car I have ever owned. By Far :D
On the older civics, like 98 and something, you can open the hood almost verticaly
Hey Scotty maybe I was lucky and got a gem of a car. But I bought a 2012 Chevy Cruze 1.4L Turbo brand new and to this day still driving daily to work with over 201,000 miles. Only issue with the car has been the PCV that ive had to change out twice and an oxygen sensor. Thanks for the videos

2000 lexus gs300. 22years and barely just now having to replace the starter. Everything runs solid. Transmission smoother than 2022 vehicles 2jz ge engine currently at 140k miles. Tons of space in engine bay to do the maintenance myself. Phenomenal machinery built like a tank. Lexus 2jz engines sound beautiful and torque is almost instantaneous. Wish lexus would bring back the 2jz but equip them with gte base models

I had a friend from West Virginia who hate his corolla and exchanged it for a Ford Escort. I asked him "Why would you do that?", He said because the Corolla wouldnt break down easily & he wanted to tinker with his car. 🤦♀🤣
My 2005 Pontiac Vibe (Matrix) has 240K on it. Only thing, other than maintenance, was a water pump. Still has the original hoses! At the Dealer we never saw these in for anything!!!. Its body needs some help but it starts, AC is cold and everything works!
I just bought one of those civics. 140k miles. Engine and transmission are perfect. I couldn’t believe it. Did a little headlight replacement, little undercoating spray for the winter and new tires. It’s very nice.
I have one here in Australia. It's my daily. 190,000 km 5 speed manual. Car runs real good.

Have a 2007 civic just like that one I bought 3 years ago… 150k miles, running at 190k miles now. Only replacement I had to do was just an alternator replacement and surprisingly the same hood and fender replacement as that car.
2010 civic here no real problems just maintenance. Do the fluids and take care of it they will run forever. Only has 150k on it so she’s just barely broke in
I'm in the UK and I've got a 2006 2.2 diesel civic . I love it , its very quick , and I get 45mpg around the city and 65mpg on the motorways.. it's bulletproof, and pulls like a train.
