Please don't ever change.
I still have this camera and a couple of pancake lenses. I use it for street photo and the images are surprisingly good, even after all these years. BTW, the 16-50 kit zoom extends itself, unlike the cost-cutting counterparts of current models.
So so so glad you’re still making these types of videos! These budget/cheap/old camera gear videos are my favorite, and I loved the skit video as well.
Thanks! I'm still going to make these types of video, but I definitely want to try out some new stuff too. Hope you'll be there to enjoy that content too 😊 Thanks for your support!

@@DunkelRuhrOutdoorsI’ve no knowledge of elwick’s model of camera but have converted two Samsung nx cameras (1000 and 300) to full spectrum so far and the process was much easier than you’d think. Plus the bodies are cheap enough that you can pick up one to practice on before attempting the actual conversion ! Just remember to mark the sensor position before reassembly otherwise focus will be a bit wonky !
I’ve still got, and still use, the NX300 - I loved it then and love it now. People weren’t sure about the iMenu thingy but I absolutely loved it. A great camera that will always be a great camera.
Enjoying your videos here in Fort Worth Texas. I have a Samsung ex2f from 2012. Only 12 megapixels, but it is all metal with a fully articulated LCD and a 24-80mm zoom. I'm impressed with the build and picture quality. Shame they never continued the camera division. Congrats on the move to Calgary.
I have that exact camera and lens which I have been using for 8 years. At the time, 2016, I bought it around 200 dollars with the kit lens, probably due to the fact that it was the last ones in the store. I bought 30mm and 50-200 samsung lenses 2nd hand, also couple of vintage m42 lenses and I am quite happy with it. Btw the battery is the same as "galaxy s4 zoom" phone / compact camera hybrid.
I have this combo! With the incredible popularity of small compacts at the moment many have gone crazy on price, and lots of small mirrorless cameras have been swept up too (Fuji X-M1, Panasonic GM1 for example). The NX3000 seems to have escaped that for now, a relative bargain here in the UK Vs many other small mirrorless older cameras which in reality are no better.
Hi Tom, just wanna say thank you for always making videos on photography with affordable cameras when UA-cam these days are filled with the newest and 'best' gear videos. It's really inspiring to see how much these outdated cameras can do in the hands of capable photographers like yourself. Thanks to your videos (other UA-camrs like snappiness and One Month Two Cameras), counterintuitively, I've finally managed to control my GAS and have started to really enjoy taking pictures as opposed to thinking about the next better camera/lens. Congrats on the move, Tom. IMHO it’s one of the most beautiful places on earth. I own the NX1 & NX500 and can’t seem to find a good reason to get rid of them. The former truly is a premium camera and the latter is nearly pocketable with a pancake lens. Because it’s a “dead”system, there are hacks available to boost both cameras’ video capabilities.
I have the NX300 with 16-50 OIS powerzoom and I believe this is the best bang for your buck these days in the Samsung range (+ normal battery size and memory cards). Still very pocketable, versatile and great battery life.
The NX300 is better ime due to it having focus peaking when using older lenses and lens adapters, one of the reasons I bought mine. So I can use my older Pentax, Helios etc lenses on a lightweight mirrorless camera. Don't worry if the internal battery has died, it can't be easily replaced but just means resetting the clock each time you change out the main battery. The worst part is the screen which is often not bright enough on sunny days, a cheap matt screen protector can help here.
I purchased a full spectrum converted NX2000, it’s so amazing, I wanted to get into IR/SPECTRUM photos. The WiFi connection is old and not supported by most newer phones or tablets, so the app is not compatible or functioning. Lenses are very limited, hard to find the one you really want, or pay extra premium for a discontinued item, the NX2000 has the touch screen, but no flip screen. Most of the lenses are in Korea or Japan, the USA market is a gamble, I had to return a lens that looked perfect but didn’t quite fully functional. Be careful of sellers getting rid of defective ones for a price lower than what the majority are likely going for. The overseas market seems to be more honest and reliable. But KEH, sold me a great lens, located in the US. the larger than most screens on my NX2000 is great to use, the conversion was done perfectly, I didn’t need another camera, but wanted to try a different format of shooting, instead of the same old images, 90% of the world shoots in. IR/Full spectrum is a bit more learning and forethought than the camera requirements are done with B&W, or colour spectrum imaging, shooting with a filter that is darker or invisible is more tricky. Samsung seems to take to the conversion very well. The smaller form factor is a major plus. My latest go to when I want to shoot for the day.
hi man. I live in yyc ab too. I discovered your chanel when i decided to learn how to tell stories through videography and photography. I wonder if you'll do some shoots in the Larch Valley this season when the colours are changing. Always curious to see newcomers to AB and their fresh perspectives on the cities/streetphotography/landscape etc.
I have four different Samsung cameras including the super fast NX1, which also has a very decent resolution, especially considering its release date. I love the images from these cameras, and despite having only three Samsung lenses, I can shoot almost any focal length as I have bought adapters for a range of different lenses, though I have to shoot manual focus, but that's the way I do most of the time anyway. Great system, I would recommend anyone to consider it. Outdated ? Yeah but who really needs all the new stuff that modern cameras come with? I think the manufacturers are just trying to create a need, most of us will be just fine with older DSLRs or cameras like these Samsungs. I find the NX1 is still a killer camera.
I have a nx2000 and nx mini, love them. NX2000 paired with a vintage Olympus 50 mm, killer combo. I also have the samsung 30mm lens, sharp, simple and great. Vintage lenses work just great on the nx system. Nx mini lovely, everyday camera. Pocketable, sharp, simple, great camera to use with family and friends
I have Samsung NX 300M and NX30. Both have a tuch screen. I love their pancacke lenses, and I have all of them: 16, 20, 30mm. And a very interesting 45mm/1.8 3D lens. What I don't like are colours out of the camera. They have some "dirty", greenish tint, and I can't get rid of it otherwise than by setting WB with a gray card.
Two NX1000, an NX210 & an NX300 in use. All bought used with a range of lenses. Not a fan of expensive cameras for every-day use so these are ideal to carry anywhere with results that are fine for my eyes. The NX1000 is light & perfectly balanced with the 16mm prime for one-handed use - and no touch screen to accidentally change settings. EDIT: Should add I always shoot RAW, can't comment on the out of camera JPEGs. EDIT 2: All of the above have a chunkier battery than the NX3000 and have a proper SD Card slot. Plus the NX300 is touch screen. Would love a 28mp NX500 but you're looking at £500+ for one of those...
The NX mini was fine into its heyday - also with limited external controls, it was with a Type 1.0/1" (13.2x8.8mm Sensor format, called Nikon CX - because Nikon designed that Sensor size, into 2011 - with their Nikon 1 J1/V1, FYI) with 20 MP, just like all Sony RX10 & RX100 versions, it's always a 1" 20 MP Sensor.
I really miss my NX1 and NX500 and Samsung’s range of stellar small lenses. They were the first company that really understood how to integrate smartphone features into a camera’s UI. Also, they were breath of fresh air when it came to camera design innovation like the incorporation of a tiltable viewfinder into the NX30.
It's a shame Samsung left the making of actual cameras. But you have to give them credit for seeing the writing on the wall that the future was in smartphones with cameras and dedicated camera sales figures were crashing. They saw no future in squabbling for the leftovers like the big camera companies are doing now.
Thank you for your very informative video. I was previously unaware that Samsung made cameras, and your thoughts on this one were very interesting. Good job.
I knew exactly what it was before I even clicked this. My Samsung NX3000 is one of my FAVORITES that I own. It weighs next to nothing. It's the PERFECT platform for adapting vintage lenses to. I got mine for $60 on eBay a few years ago. Right now it has a Canon FD 50mm f1.4 on it
I love my Samsung cameras. I have the NX1,NX500 and my NX Mini. I also have NX-Mini with the rare NX mount adapter That allows NX lenses on the NX Mini. Samsung did great with this system. I use the 85,45 and the S lens.
still have two of these. The NX500 i used for a bit. The Galaxy NX i left it to gather dust on the shelf. Its an old android system that is now obsolete. I compared photos with nikon, sony and fujifilm and somehow there was a little magic in it. I wonder if samsung made their own sensors.
Useful as always, Tom. I bought a couple (on different occasions) when they were already on sale and could be found cheap even brand new. I never fell in love with them so ended up selling them but maybe I should have given them an opportunity.
Great to see some Samsung coverage. For anyone who wants to dip a toe in the water, the NX1000 with the 20-50 kit lens can still take detailed casual pictures on a budget. Not so good for videos though. Tom, you mentioned the WiFi link, as far as I know, this requires a smartphone app which is no longer available. If someone knows better, please reply :-)
it's a shame that even top of the line cameras today don't have proper interface and/or OS, and I have zero clue why there wasn't a single more pro camera on Android since Samsung's attempt
I have several brands of cameras, and just can't help myself. The most unique and fun one to use is SAMUNG's TINY "NV" lineup. I always have at least One of them. Right now,it's the NV24. The camera is the size of a pack of cigarettes and has a very nice grip. The most unique part of the camera are the pre touch screen buttons on the back. You can slide your finger over them or just touch them for all the functions. Very interesting line of sub compact camera. And very little as far as youtube vids on them. I leave mine in the car.
Great video as usual. I have a theory about why the NX series ultimately failed, and apart from Samsung getting cold feet, I think stems from the partnership they had with Pentax. Their GX series were ultimately Pentax cameras re-branded (and re-bodied in the GX-10 and 20). The lenses were all Pentax designed and made ones. So no bad thing there. I just have a hunch that the partnership went very sour with the Samsung designed 14.6MP sensor, that Pentax also used. So you have the GX-20, K20D, which I had a copy, and the K-7, all using this sensor. And to be brutal, it is awful! "if" it was the Sony sensor beater, then things possibly have been different. Pentax ended up going back to Sony for the excellent 16MP replacement for the K-5 over anything that Samsung produced. The Samsung/Pentax partnership may be still going, and Pentax would also be helping develop the NX mirrorless mount with Samsung, and be a decade ahead of CaNikon with theirs. But in the end, we know where we are now. I could be totally wrong, but there is certainly indicators. But like I say, it is only a theory. Shame really, as a NX mount Pentax mirrorless with their stunning Limiteds in a mirrorless version would be something to behold. As it is, Samsung have gone the phone route, and Pentax still make superb DSLR's and lenses albeit to a very reduced audience.
That's a nice video. I think the Samsung NX system was very underrated and overlooked. And at the same time loved by people who used it. I personally started with NX200 and later switched to NX300, which was my dream camera. From lenses I had the 18-55mm and this 30mm f2 pancake. Plus I had the manual 85mm f1.4 from Samyang which was amazing for portraits. This way I got into photography with relatively low budget and got tons of amazing pictures to keep. It was very sad when the system died and as I wanted to progress in digital photography, I switched to the Canon M system. I believed that such a big brand as Canon will not let me down. Until it did. So nowadays I'm a Nikon Z user and so far so good :)
I also forgot to mention that at the time when Samsung NX was alive, not many people really believed in mirrorless and kept asking why not to get a DSLR for such money... I kept telling them that mirrorless is the future, which is now clear to everyone, I hope :)
You should check the NX500 and NX1. These are the 4K flagships release along with the nx3000. They are still very much perfect imo! I baought all of them in new condition along with the 150S lens and 85mm portraint and 45mm portrait and they are FANTASTIC. Really sad they stopped making cameras.. Edit: 30mm is my fav lens :)
I had this camera and lens combo, shooting jpeg straight out of the camera with auto white balance gives inaccurate colors. Andbfir those who wants to buy it for it's wifi capabilities, just forget it, with android 10 and up you won't br able ti use it. But over all it's such a nice really light anf small portable camera
1:14 GX-20 isn't the best example, it was literally DSLR (rebadged Pentax). 6:42 MicroSDs weren't the cause of slow write speeds neither then, nor today (we now have V30 MicroSDs with 100+ MBps write speeds). 10:11 - no it wasn't, NX3000 came out before NX1 which was highly praised and at the time was expected to bring a breath of freash air to the whole NX lineup.
Funnily enough I was just thinking about the Samsung cameras the other day. I got to use one once that was Android based and it was... interesting. At the time it hadn't been release yet and I just couldn't figure out who would pay the premium price for it. Anyway, great vid but when you talk about how great the colours are straight out of the camera, please consider showing a couple of images with the camera colour and not a preset. Or maybe a side-by-side.
I hate to use my NX1 and NX500, they don't have IBIS and AF is not very good with the pancake lenses, but man the image quality is top notch, they don't have the best DR but the colors are fantastic and the tiny 30mm f2 lens has excellent rendering, close to my best vintage manual lenses, maybe it's related to the lower element count.
I have nx mini and nx3000 in my collection. Awesome quality. 45mm is really amazing. Unfortunately Samsung cut out. I'd live to see the evolution with Android devices...
Thank you for this video, i indeed agree these are bloody capable cameras at a bargain price. I have 2 NX 300 which i bought for 70€ each (with their lenses) and a NX mini for 80€ with the 9mm. Same for the lenses...you could get any lens for less than 100€ (except the pro range of course). Now prices have been going up but if you want some nice portable very capable cheap cameras and lenses...go ahead!! Ah , Samsung also had an adapter Pentax - NX from the times they were rebadging Pentax lenses with an aperture ring that allows you to use any Pentax lense. Combines nicely with my Pentax gear 😊 Oh, i also forgot about the little button in most of the lenses that allows to set up aperture, compensation, etc...a
Anyone knows how to set the "shoot without lens" mode on nx3000? I use nx3000 body to adaptor of canon, but it said no lens detected. Please advice for whoever had faced the same probs. Thanks.
Epson and Leica also made mirrorless cameras at that time. Epson even released the world's first mirrorless camera with interchangeable lenses in 2004.🤓
The Epson RD1 and Leica bodies at the time were not "mirrorless" per the actual definition. They are rangefinders. True, they don't have mirror assemblies within the lens mount, but neither did film rangefinders such as the Leica M6. True mirrorless cameras always have the shutter open (sensor exposed) when shooting in order to achieve live view. Ricoh/Pentax did have true mirrorless cameras at this time, such as the Pentax Q (1/2.3" sensor w/ interchangeable mount) and the Ricoh GXR utilizing the M mount module. This features the same mount as the RD1 and Leica rangefinders, but acts as a true mirrorless camera with an always-open shutter and live view via an APSC sensor. Another example from Pentax is the K-01, which is a K mount-based true mirrorless camera with an APSC sensor.
@@cronglNo, by definition the R-D1 is the world's first mirrorless digital camera with interchangeable lenses. Whether the camera has live view or not doesn't matter. Is a Pentax K10D or canon EOS 20D not a DSLR because it doesn't have live view? no. Mirrorless is a physical condition but live view is only a Feature.
@@crongl The thing you're talking about is MILC vs Rangefinder but it doesn't make any difference because both don't have a mirror and are therefore MIRRORLESS. And the R-D1 is the world's first mirrorless digital camera.
I have that camera and it is great. Myonky problem is when I shoot to the sky to capture an airplane, does not detect anything, and does not take the picture
I actually shot a wedding on this camera, due to the official photographer pulling out at the last minute, it’s a surprisingly good piece of kit, so much so I sold all my Nikon FF cameras and switched to Sony FF.
The larger single and double digit models had EVFs I believe. It was just these smaller, entry-level cameras that didn't. But this was kinda the norm at the time.
The question is not if still a good camera the question is if wifi or aps still works with modern phones otherwise just a door stopper brick Also yes it cheap to buy but the lens are rare to find and buy also expensive too maybe a ef adapter can work
@stmsaiya the prob with ef lenses is that most of them have focus by wire and don't include an aperture ring making them useless to adapt into any mirrorrless camera
Yeah I search it and no autofocus for ef to nx only manual focus .. i guess will just buy any micro 4/3 camera i can use lumix and olympus and third party too lens
What are thoughts on Samsung/any major smartphone companies designing a point and shoot camera device without phone features? Runs on android and with inbuilt editing app
I had a Samsung mirrorless. I gave it to my cousin for use when I added it to my Canon 7 DSLR. I enjoyed it and he enjoyed it until he switched to his iphone for all his photos.
Nx3000 for travel is great. Nx300 is better , you can also shoot vintage lenses with them and nx300 has focus peaking with colors + magnification. Nx3000 has magnification but screen resolution is worst. Nx30 is super with viewfinder and tilting screen. But is bigger.

I knew exactly what it was before I even clicked this. My Samsung NX3000 is one of my FAVORITES that I own. It weighs next to nothing. It's the PERFECT platform for adapting vintage lenses to.
I got mine for $60 on eBay a few years ago. Right now it has a Canon FD 50mm f1.4 on it
I really enjoy your videos. Thank you.
Thank you, so nice to hear. Thanks for sharing your appreciation!
This is a nice camera but what do you think of Nikon 1 series? I love your content about compact cameras btw.
I tested out the Nikon 1 J5 a while back and really enjoyed using it! Such a stealthy little camera

Great video, as always
Thank you - I appreciate the kindness!
Is the D7000 still good now?
Useful as always, Tom. I bought a couple (on different occasions) when they were already on sale and could be found cheap even brand new. I never fell in love with them so ended up selling them but maybe I should have given them an opportunity.
I still have an X1000 kicking around here somewhere. It is quite a nice little camera. 20MP, it shot raw, and the lenses were decent too.
I remember seeing someone use a samsung before, i loved the colors i saw from it.
it's a shame that even top of the line cameras today don't have proper interface and/or OS, and I have zero clue why there wasn't a single more pro camera on Android since Samsung's attempt
You should take a look at the Sony a5100 and see what you can get out of it 😊
I have several brands of cameras, and just can't help myself.
Thanks Tom.
Nice video, but can you show all your cameras collection ??
What type of mount lens uses Samsung nx 3000???
It uses Samsung's own NX mount
@@TomCalton oh, ok thanks, I thought was m4/3
Weren’t the original NEX cameras also apsc?
Yesterday I bought a nx3000 with the 16-50mm kit for 100€
Nice! Congrats! I hope you enjoy using it
You should check the NX500 and NX1.
I still have my original Samsung NX100, and NX1000 bodies. (14.6 MP & 20 MP via APS-C)
The nx300 had touch screen and more features.
Later NX cameras had standard sd cards and fatter, shorter batteries.
@@karlbentley5702 yes I have one. it's pretty decent. although the battery life isn't strong
You should take a look at the Leica Digilux 2 and Paanasonic Lumix DMC-LC1 (basically the same) so that the prices go up and i can sell mine lol
Meaning this as a compliment, you remind me of a romantic lead in a Hallmark movie.
For once, I have no witty reply. Thanks, I think? 🤣🤣🤣
SAMSUNG is Absolute MVC in the Entire Universe 🙌✨️
They Should Bring Back these.
Atleast a Powerful Vlogging Camera...💙
NX 3300 was there last camera as far as I know I have Nx1 , Nx500 Nx10
Wish Samsung still makes camera would love to see what they come up with if they still make some
I have nx mini and nx3000 in my collection.
Combines nicely with my Pentax gear 😊 Oh, i also forgot about the little button in most of the lenses that allows to set up aperture, compensation, etc...a
My NX500 is one of the best cameras ever made.
Love ur video. U sir got a subscriber today!!!! Please continue doing these types of vids.
Samsung also had a couple of NX DSLRs. I think the last one made was 28 mp.
Could you review Kodak pixpro fz55
I have that camera and it is great. Myonky problem is when I shoot to the sky to capture an airplane, does not detect anything, and does not take the picture
The app for transferring photos to your cellphone does not work anymore.
Does nx2000 almost new (open box) with two lenses worth 300$ ?
Nope , they go for under 100$ these days
I have NX300 and it's great except the battery drain when off.
I actually shot a wedding on this camera, due to the official photographer pulling out at the last minute, it’s a surprisingly good piece of kit, so much so I sold all my Nikon FF cameras and switched to Sony FF.
Nx mount still has more on brand lenses than canon m mount. You don't need much lenses just the right ones.
Well, Samsung did forget to add an EVF to those NX series !
The larger single and double digit models had EVFs I believe. It was just these smaller, entry-level cameras that didn't. But this was kinda the norm at the time.
@@TomCalton I know the larger models have viewfinder. I do not like cameras without viewinders, new or old.
I had that last because I loved the colours but sold it because it was laggy AF
I live in South Korea and these cameras are dirt cheap on the second hand market here
Thomas, youre still alive. I thought you got gored by a moose.
I mean, it was a close call, but I came to an agreement with the moose and we decided to just go our separate ways.
@@TomCalton thats good to hear. Dont get carried away with the maple syrup.
That battery looks like the one from my c2013 Samsung phone...
What are thoughts on Samsung/any major smartphone companies designing a point and shoot camera device without phone features? Runs on android and with inbuilt editing app
it's really sad, the colors these cameras produced were amazing, they were really on to something, looking forward for the galaxy review :)
Legend
I had a Samsung mirrorless. I gave it to my cousin for use when I added it to my Canon 7 DSLR. I enjoyed it and he enjoyed it until he switched to his iphone for all his photos.
NX - are super rare cameras/ Dont even think!
6:07 C-Fast Card 🚫 Galaxy Note 2 Battery ✅
That battery looks like an older phone battery
Just sold my NX210 lol
Cameras Samsung >> I love my Samsung 4K 27 inch Monitor >> but have only bought Nikon since 1972 and will never change
I thought bro said goodbye
Did you watch the video?
Say cheese 🧀🧀🧀🧀🧀
Cheeeeeeeeese! 😁
Your aspect ratio is out of control.
Wide angle is the future 🤖
You dropped a pin 📌 can I have it?
I only know about the Samsung cameras because one of them runs android
Samsung will make cameras again if Apple joins the fray. They're waiting to copy Apple 😂
Nx3000 for travel is great. Nx300 is better , you can also shoot vintage lenses with them and nx300 has focus peaking with colors + magnification. Nx3000 has magnification but screen resolution is worst. Nx30 is super with viewfinder and tilting screen. But is bigger.
Thanks. toronto
