Debt to GDP ratio for Finland is actually quite good. Although the figure of €138Bn sounds like a lot it’s actually less than 60%. The problem in Finland is that debt and austerity are fetishised by politicians to hammer whoever runs the country when in fact Finnish debt levels are actually quite low by international standards. That having been said I do love Finland, and it's problems are still better than most countries, but what problems they have, stand out more becaus the country's population is smaller than the population of Chicago.

Great video. My wife is moving to Finland soon. What would you recommend as regular couple activities worth doing or checking out during weekends to not get bored staying at home in winter?
Sauna, music venues, local markets, museums and going out to eat/drink. Observe and listen to people around you, there is a lot of culture in Finland. Just absorb it in at first, linger on a bench or in a bar. Don't expect to make fast friends, but once you make some conversation, you'll discover such great lifelong friendships! In rural US, we walked to school by age 6-7. And since i have protected scorpions, rattlesnakes, a few large bears, and even a 125-35 pound wolf for about 10 years from death-dealing humans, i appear to have a different aesthetic than the terrified tubby males packing guns everywhere. And earthquakes are interesting, though i knew a lawyer who experienced an earthquake, leaving the Sierras in terror for San Francisco, only to find another - he moved far to the east coast ( while i moved to this marvelous place where three major crustal plates meet, guaranteeing at least yearly significant pleasant vibration experiences, which can function in turning off lights, making for pleasant night skies .
Greetings from Singapore! Thank you for sharing. It's both my wife and my wish to travel to Finland for vacation and retreat, hopefully on a longer term stay. Are Finnish comfortable with foreigners in their neighbourhood?
Yea, this works mostly like he said _IF_ you move to a smallish town. The larger cities are poisoned by immigrants from Africa, Russia & Middle East. Those places are not a safe place anymore. And of course job opportunities a more scarce in those same places.
I have a question regarding if you were to move to Finland, how easy is it to move over there? And what challenges may you face? If you don't know the language how hard is it to get around or find work?
A Red Sox shirt? Is baseball popular in Finland? As someone from the Boston area, I don't even care if you actually like the team I'm just happy to see it!
I’m thinking about returning to Finland. I have been living in Australia since 1978.I came here as an eight year old with my parents. TBH I have never fitted in. People talk shit, are ignorant and it’s becoming like a police state. Protesting is illegal and it is becoming extremely expensive. One bedroom unit in Sydney costs applied 300€ a week.
I live in Finland as a Australian and you think you are controlled in Oz, it's a whole other level here. EVERYTHING is regulated alcholo, bank account, the colour you can paint your house, you walk on the wrong side of the footpath people lose their shit, the current Finnish government is trying to make strikes illegal and you can be fined. Some people in Finland are extremely ignorant, racism, xenophoba and descrimination is everywhere and here it's next level. The housing in Australia is a disgrace and need to be fixed. If you like order and structure you will love Finland.

Unfortunately yes, more the further north you go due to the abundant swampland which is also funnily enough where the country's name comes from (suomi (old Finnish) > suomaa, lit. Swamp land/country) A few years ago I was driving home to Rovaniemi through Ranua, an area littered with large swamps, and there were enough mosquitoes, midges and other such bugs flying around to form what looked like dust devils on the road. Had to stop every fifteen minutes or so to wipe my windshield by hand just to see where I was going due to the damn thing getting so caked up in bug corpses. That said, that summer was a bit of an exception due to heavy snowfall in the winter followed by high temperatures in the summer, thus leading to a lot of warm stagnant water pooled up all over the place. You do still want to carry some insect repellant if you're planning on heading out to the woods during summertime, but for the most of the year you don't really need to worry about the bloodsuckers thanks to the cold weather.

Very informative video! Not that I have the means to move in the near future, but is it true that Finland is autism friendly? I came across something that it is, but would like to hear it from somebody who lives there. I have high functioning autism and would like to know if, for instance, there are good services, medicines, and so forth for folks like myself. Your points about Finland is idyllic to why I would move there. A second question I may add, how does the moving process work, and how challenging is it? Okay, maybe three. Ha! Love to Finland from the United States. And no, I'm not the American "bastard" portrayed, just a simple person. lol.
I would have bet everything I had that Finland does NOT have poisonous snakes... Ugh. I hate snakes. It adds worry when I'm in nature, and takes away the bliss.
But in my opinion?.....if I move overthere just for a trip?, I'm going to approach ladies in español 🤣🤣🤣, I've heard "almost everyone" in Finland is extremely smart and speak at least 3 or more languages, and español is one, or am I, wrong?

@@muruseni912Thanks... I get your point but unfortunately I can't relate to that as the place I come from aren't dangerous nor worse so my plan is to return as soon as my work commitment ends, your mental health is as important as physical health 🙏 But I agree this is a well run country...
Do You play any Sports - indoors ? You BETTER join a Club - that has IT All ! World Cup - to NHL ( 32 Teams - 7 at Canada ) !
@@holoholopainen1627 thanks, I guess I need to force myself out often.. 😑
My advice is get active: go to places, get a new hobby, do exercise. There are many opportunities to meet people if you take action.
I'm going to have an interview in finnish ammattikoulu. Should I put on a formal clothes or just wear a t-shirt?
Thanks for all about Suomi. Hope I can be there soon
Good stuff! 😃🙌
Good luck and happy new year! Kippis!
@@BeauNero666 thanks. I've been living in Finland since 2015 but all along lived by myself so didn't care much. Summer is effortlessly fun. I'm just worried how to make sure my wife feels it's not all white snowy in winter rather there are activities worth doing even during winter. Let's see. New year to you too. Kippis!
See the suggestions of Beau!
@@AleksiHimself does Finland have fairs?
US per capita national debt is over 3x that, and with less to show for it.
Big money!
Like in any country, there are friendly and unfriendly people. Most Finns are okay, especially if you learn the culture and the language.
Yea, this works mostly like he said _IF_ you move to a smallish town. The larger cities are poisoned by immigrants from Africa, Russia & Middle East. Those places are not a safe place anymore. And of course job opportunities a more scarce in those same places.
Sadly yes. As most immigrants here prefer to live in large cities, moving to the countryside is a safe option.
I have a question regarding if you were to move to Finland, how easy is it to move over there? And what challenges may you face? If you don't know the language how hard is it to get around or find work?

it's not just safety, it's mentality.
A Red Sox shirt? Is baseball popular in Finland? As someone from the Boston area, I don't even care if you actually like the team I'm just happy to see it!
Not really. It's an old shirt I got somewhere. We watch Finnish baseball.

If you like order and structure you will love Finland.
love finland im in finland soon for 6 weeks

do you have biting midges? little flies that bite, Scotland was terrible for midges! they drove me nuts!
Unfortunately yes, more the further north you go due to the abundant swampland which is also funnily enough where the country's name comes from (suomi (old Finnish) > suomaa, lit. Swamp land/country)
A few years ago I was driving home to Rovaniemi through Ranua, an area littered with large swamps, and there were enough mosquitoes, midges and other such bugs flying around to form what looked like dust devils on the road.
In Finland have traffic break ticket by Your income = If You are millioner You get speeding not 100 euro fine but more like 2.000 euro +

Yes and yes
Why is Petersburg so big and Helsinki so small?
Real city vs village
For street photographer, how Finland is? I mean do people allow to take photos random?
Some do, some don't.
Aleksi can you do interviews like before ? We would really appreciate that .. Thank you
Unfortunately, I don't do them at this time.
And no, I'm not the American "bastard" portrayed, just a simple person. lol.
Love Finland!

I would have bet everything I had that Finland does NOT have poisonous snakes... Ugh. I hate snakes. It adds worry when I'm in nature, and takes away the bliss.
theres one i know off but past just two years i lived here only seen it about twice.
You see & hear Those !
There is only one and it's quite uncommon, too.
But in my opinion?.....if I move overthere just for a trip?, I'm going to approach ladies in español 🤣🤣🤣, I've heard "almost everyone" in Finland is extremely smart and speak at least 3 or more languages, and español is one, or am I, wrong?
Only some ladies speak, not all.
The Nordics are some of the happiest people on earth 🌍!

I was shocked when you said that Finland is in huge dept but then I saw the amount and was like " NIGERIA why" it's in trillions 😭
Or people who are lost, and don't know how to get X place. Pretty sure, the every man's rights regarding picking berries and mushrooms, in privately owned land (Non government, as an example, native citizen owned). You need a permission of the land owner, in regards to public, yeap, go ahead. If I recall correctly, what I found rather surprising is that some Japanese people like to travel to Finland to buy mushrooms.

Sounds like a place for less ambitious introverts who seek stability. High taxes means you get to benefit more if you are raising a family or have more medical needs. But not so great for self-sufficient singles.
Let's go Red Sox!!!

It's too bad that wild bears here avoid humans. I'd love to meet a wild bear in here in Finland some day before it's my time to leave this body and go afterlife. But maybe that's a thing I save for when I'm old and no longer have work to do in life, when I've completed everything else. Bear....
