I see why famous modern singers look up to her so much (Like Dimash) and you can hear a bit of his voice in this. He must be a big fan :)

Never a negative word over nobody. She speaks and sings so many languages fluently... I am honored that she spent a great part of her life here in Québec, Canada. “Je suis Malade”, now a french classic, was written by famous French singer & songwriter Serge Lama together with composer/singer Alice Dona in 1973.
This is based on his own experience and he was the original performer, hence some lyrics are a bit male-oriented (eg my mother leaves me, whiskies, I pour my blood in your body, …).
When Serge Lama had a dinner with Alice Dona and told her about his obsessive love that was leading to a road block, she came back home and composed the music in a couple of hours.
The morning after, she presented him the music and he wrote the lyrics in … 20 minutes.
Serge Lama was the original performer in 1973, it started to be promoted on the radio, and the song was brought to fame only when, a few months after, Dalida covered it. She was an absolute mega star in France, another emotional powerhouse, and this song resonated very much with her own feelings. Her success with this song transformed it into a french classic, and started to make it famous abroad.
But it is Lara Fabian that really made this song a very popular song in many countries with her cover in the mid 90s.
At that time Dalida had already passed away, but Serge Lama was (and is) still alive. Dalida and Serge were two inspirations for Lara, so she sent an audio copy to Serge of her version.
She was unknown at that time in France but he was so impressed with her vocal skills and her emotions rendering that he invited her in France to sing it as a duet during his own Paris concert in January 1995. It was a triumph. So he sat in a front row seat and asked her to sing it again alone.
Lara also had made some subtle changes to the song that gave it even more power. Serge and Lara became good friends and performed several other duets later on.

is legendary internationally and has attracted many artists to do a cover, even from non french-speaking countries.
The most recent ones I am aware of are from italian singer Giulia Falcone, from the korean singer Choi Sung Hoon or from the korean band Forestella.
Lara is used to perform the song very differently in each of her tour and for instance the En Toute Intimité, 2003, Paris Olympia version is even more dramatic

I had to smile when you said, you can see why Dimash loves her. A few years ago I watched a lot of reaction videos with Lara Fabian. I heard reactors talking about Dimash and how much he loves and adores her. I was wondering who this Dimash guy was and after watching many videos I was curious and watched a Dimash video from his channel. And so I found him and stuck. If not right after the first time. But I always come back to Laura. She is great and an excellent singer. Just like Dimash, I love her humble and cheerful nature.

I am from Montreal and French Canadian, and I appreciate that you delved into other languages than English. Although I myself., mostly listen to English songs, I do have a long list of French speaking artists that I admire. If you ever want to hear another great French singer that has emotion and feel in both the lyrics and his delivery, you should check out Jacques Brel, Ne Me Quiites pas, to start. Bowie covered one of his songs ( The port of Amsterdam) which he translated to English.

Good reaction. In 2003, she gave a different, even more heart-rending interpretation of the song (on UA-cam).
I think Laura's influence is why Dimash often ends his songs with an unusually long note. He knew of Igor Krutoy through his composing Mme. Zhivago with Laura in 2010.

You tapped into something that I haven't heard others who've reacted to this song - the wonder how much of her performance intensity is her tapping into a flow state. When you really study this performance you see how many amazing performance choices she made prepping this song before stepping up to this performance. Also, if you get a chance find the full vid of the rest of this From Lara with Love concert and see just how powerful a singer she is. I wasn't a fan, hell, I'm an American and didn't know her before stumbling on that concert vid on YT back in January, but now after falling down the rabbit hole think she might be the best singer of her generation!
