@@WheelygoodCycling I'm a cyclist and I live in the Pennines buddy, there's nowhere flat up here pal. I looked at the data for the top riders and it's insane how quick they went up it. We saw Tom Bell do the Ramsbottom Rake the other weekend and he makes it look easy. He came second on that one to a Welsh rider.
I know the North Pennines pretty well (I live near Newcastle) and the terrain is unforgiving: even the short pulls (Miry Lane) are steep and nasty! The performance of the quick riders is utterly nuts - I’m not a big guy and I can keep with the reasonably quick guys in the Club, but as a racer I’m only about half their speed…
It was amazing to see him come past on the and just explode as the gradient flattened - I don’t know if you can see on the video, but it really looked like he gave up for a few seconds. Up for a tilt at next year’s event on The Struggle?
Cheers! Part of me wishes I’d had a later start to get more of the mania that built through the day, but I was just happy to be there pretending I could ride with the fast ladies and gents…
Yeah, it's a special kind of feeling that you only get from hillclimb racing... 🥵. The good news is that you've 12 months to be ready for next year's event... 😉
Cheers! It's the second time I'd ridden it (there's another video with the usual power and gradient data on the channel), but having the crowd makes all the difference...
Thanks Sharon! How was it doing the timekeeping? Next year will depend upon the date of the Pittsburgh Dirty Dozen...and whether I've got my breath back from this year's! 😉
C’est La vie, I guess! I went back down to the start to stay dry (the rain started about a minute after the video ends) and sign out and, by the time I got back to the top it was mad busy, and hosing it down so recognising anyone was … tricky …. 🌧🌧
Bloody Brilliant and well done for taking that climb on. Every one has got to be a winner for giving it a go. Chapeau !
Cheers! It started as one of those daft ideas which turned into a fantastic day. Definitely worth trying if you like riding hills!

Chapeau! great effort. Thanks for filming it, I needed to catch my breath at the end from just watching it.
Cheers! It's a proper hill, this one, and just doesn't really relent...
Congratulations, fantastic effort, well done Jon!!
Congratulations💯 - you were reeling the guy who passed you back in - very convincingly 💪. Amazing support at the top
Cheers! If he hadn’t pulled in front of me (I did have to get off the gas briefly) I reckon they’d have needed a photo finish…
@@WheelygoodCycling - for sure - I thought the same

Excellent video - great effort!
Cheers- appreciated!
Well done Jon, I'm definitely entering next years Nationals! Inspiring.
Cheers! Go for it next year!
Well done Jon, great effort.
Cheers! Fancy having a go next year?
Nice one 👍, was a fantastic atmosphere today great event to ride

That's what you call sport. Brilliant mate💪💪💪
Cheers! I think I may need 364 days to recover... 🤣
Epic
Fancy having a punt at next year’s event on The Struggle?
I'll be cheering you on blue from "the golden hand " at the bottom of the climb great pub and no juke box cycle back down and I'll fill your glass
🤣🤣. Fair enough! If it doesn’t clash with next year’s Pittsburgh Dirty Dozen, then I’ll see you there…
That feeling when you get so out of breath it's almost impossible to think. Dunno if i'd make it up that one in my current fitness lol.

Looked super steep! What was the av gradient?
The average is about 12% over the entire hill and doesn't really have huge variances... it's a _proper_ hill!
@@WheelygoodCycling Man that is tough. Anything over 10% really hurts so well done :)
Cheers! Extended grades like this are hard as there’s nowhere to recover (the Zoncolan is the archetype)…
Great effort, it's a brutal climb.

Job done indeed Mr Bennett!! Well done you. The Struggle next year??!!

@@WheelygoodCycling I had a great day on the finish line. The gazebo was neither use nor ornament when the rain was coming in sideways!
🤣. I guess I was lucky in that I could head back down the hill at this point - it was bone dry at the Pavilion…
Man that’s look brutal! Great effort.
Cheers! Your eyes did not deceive you - that was _hard_...
Chapeau, great effort
Cheers!
Well Done, great effort ☺️👍
Cheers! ❤️❤️
Well done sir job done 👍
Cheers! And I was done at the top…although being told I was OK as I could speak was a new experience… 🤣
very brave man. hope you got a chance to speak with simon about your channel👍
Cheers! Sadly I didn’t get a opportunity to chat: there was no chance at the start and that was the last I saw of him…
i saw him with his 100 sign cheering people on (on another youtube feed). oh well. you must have more climb footage than anyone else out there👍
