My uncle used to grow pop corn . He rubbed to ears together to get the corn off the cob. So good.

Happy you've discovered the Japanese White Hulless popcorn. I've been planting it for years. The best in my opinion. I love it when it gets a little burnt on the bottom. A real treat. Best wishes to you all, D

I make stovetop popcorn in the Whirley Pop popcorn pot that I bought when my son was small. It has the stirring paddle to keep the popped corn from burning.
After most of it has popped I open one side of the lid and put in a couple of pats of butter. I stir it well as the butter is melting so it coats the hot popcorn evenly.
I salt it after I dump it into the bowl. Sometimes I dump it into a brown paper grocery bag then salt it so I can shake the popcorn to evenly distribute the salt.
I love to grind popcorn kernels to use as cornmeal, it gives the cornbread a wonderful flavor.

You are exactly right. There are fewer kernels left in that than store bought popcorn and I bet it tastes better cooked in lard. I remember Grandpa planted us some before he got sick.

Love it! Nothing like homegrown food and that popcorn looks delicious!
Have you guys thought about purchasing an oil press and pressing out your own homegrown sunflower oil (or other oils)? That would be pretty cool, too!

I am definitely trying greens like that! Especially just to cook a little. I’ve always done a huge pot after I make broth out of ham hocks or a ham bone and sautéed onions and garlic. Once that broth reduces I dump pepper sauce and peppers in it and then stew my greens.

I keep a quart jar in the fridge and I drip about 15 drops of water in and give a shake, so water gets dispersed throughout and it will pop bigger and fluffier.
    Y'ALL keep it POPPIN!

When you shell the rest of the popcorn, assuming you are not using a hand crank sheller, is hold an empty cob in the hand you are taking kernels off and use the cob to do the abrasive work your fingers would otherwise do. The cob will save your hands.

If you rub 2 dry corn cobs together it's easier to get the kernels off

Didn't realize that you can also dry your own homegrown corn and make it into popcorn. Laugh at me. I'm a dumb citygirl! Are you guys keeping us updated on the extreme early frost predictions you got from the flowering of the plant (I don't remember the name)? I'm very interested. I really believe in old wisdoms. At the same time I hope it stays out so you can save your crop!

Hey y’all. Been growing the Robust hybrid. But it doesn’t pop up as fluffy as I would like it too and is definitely not hulless. Besides, I want to be able to save my own seed. Seeing how the Japanese hulless pops up, I believe I’ll be following y’all’s lead a growing this variety next year. Thanks for sharing.

Specifically, did the husk open up at maturity? I like my corn to dry on the plant, and most years moisture and humidity is an issue for me at harvest time. That Robust hybrid is tight husked. Had issues with mold and long dry time. It seems most of the heirloom popcorn opens up, but can’t find info on whether the Japanese hulless does or not.
