How I Cured My Asthma

  • I wanted to share my experience with how I got from having asthma that required an inhaler to no noticeable asthma at all. It was all through shifting how I breathe. In this video I share some of the techniques I've used that helped with this transformation.
Note that correlation does not always equal causation -- it's possible I just "got better" at the same time that I changed my breathing habits. Also note that if you are dealing with asthma, consult your health care practitioner before you make changes to your treatment. Trying breathing techniques does not mean you need to stop medications -- you can simply try the breathing and have your medication on hand if necessary. A good health care practitioner can give you advice on this.

Buteyko knew what he was talking about! So happy to hear your success with asthma, that is empowering to many people struggling with it

This sounds a lot like Buteyko breathing. I was fortunate enough to be a case study for my friend who was becoming a Buteyko method instructor and it completely changed how I breathe throughout the day. I’m a full blown nose breather now and even tape my mouth shut at night to insure nasal breathing all night. I never had asthma but it has helped with my seasonal allergies and stress. Ive also noticed how I’m just more aware of my breath throughout the day which helps a lot with being mindful. I cringe looking back on how unaware I was with my fast paced mouth breathing and never even gave it much thought. Breathing is so important. Great info here, and I’m so happy to hear that you’ve been able to manage your asthma.

Yes! I researched Buteyko's work when I was doing my turkey chasing -- it was SO helpful. Sounds like you've found similar benefits -- these days I can feel a distinct "buzz" when I breath fast through my mouth, as I used to quite often. No wonder I had more feelings of stress! I feel like it changed my allergies as well -- they aren't completely gone, but are nothing like they used to be.

Mentality is so powerful. I spent the last decade and half as caregiver for my elderly father. He had COPD. During his worst attacks, I'd try to calm him and bring him to a meditative headspace. It would make a drastic difference when we could make it work.

my mom and sister suffered from asthma during their youth and always have a ventolin spray in their bag or pocket in case of crisis. but after following a désensibilisation protocole that several months they both get almost free of asthma, only having trouble during spring with pollen. I am not sure but I think they use a extract coming from quaille eggs that grow in a certain region of France that create a specific compound helping asthma and pollen allergies. they also spent time in farms to get some exposition to all kind of natural allergen, training their immune system to cope with their condition and it worked.
I haven't seen them having a asthmatic crisis since.

This is great to hear! That exposure to what I'd term "real" environments that aren't over-sterilized is so important. Keeps our immune system working =)

I have had asthma for 26 years, finally found a good doctor at the VA in Louisville. But medicine only goes so far, I have recently discovered that it's not the Inhale that is in need but the Exhale! Like you say looong slow exhales followed by no panic slow inhalations.
I just discovered you today, gonna have to Subscribe.
    Thanks

Stinging nettles have properties that also help with asthma so a regular nettle tea will help, full benefits do not occur until after around 30 days so it requires long term consistency.

You know, I've heard that about nettle tea, and every year I seem to forget to do it! I'll have it now and again, but have never been disciplined about it. Perhaps this spring I will give it a go =)

I've lived your exact same experience. My most beneficial change has been stomach breathing, and 4sec in 4sec out controlled breathing techniques whenever my breathing feels unusual. Then allow natural breathing to take over a after a few repetitions.

Great technique -- you're making your breath conscious, and are able to notice when your breathing is "off". Way to go!

@@ReWildUniversity yeah, I find forcing the body to slow it's breathing and garuntee effecient oxygen intake for a while really helps with resetting to a more normal breathing pattern. Like your sipping air rather than gasping. When my asthma got really really bad I used to take a deep breath and just hold it for 5 sec then repeat as needed untill my body calmed down.

I also have had a chronically stuffy nose much of my life, but I've found that an anti inflammatory diet has helped some, also being outside in clean air environments, also running an air purifier/filter at night along with cracking my window near my bed (and my head is close to that) plus sleeping grounded, ice water and sauna exposure, and daily chill time or just frequently reminding myself to nose breath all have shifted it slightly enough that even though my sinuses are stuffy right now, I'm breathing though my nose by habit. CO2 levels themselves seem to influence it, when I do Wim Hoff breath cycles with their long hold out after each cycle my sinuses will temporarily open even more...good luck!

Breathing through the mouth is is a auto stress reaction .nose is a claming sensation cause the mind say your calm lees oxygen intake creats co2 and. Calms .it dose work

    • @ReWildUniversity
      @ReWildUniversity  Рік тому +2

Absolutely. In some ways so simple, yet so many of us (me included) have histories of breathing often through the mouth. These days I feel as if when I do, I can feel the tiny increase in stress. It's almost unnoticeable, but when it's chronic and mouth breathing is our default, I imagine it adds considerably to our stress levels.
