  • Some service members and others suffering from Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) have had little relief from traditional anti-depressants used in conjunction with psychotherapy. Now, a recent FDA-approved trial using a psychedelic drug called MDMA - better known by its street name, ecstasy - has shown promising results. CBS News national security correspondent David Martin talks with a former Marine whose two tours in Iraq presaged twelve years of nightmares, panic attacks and failed relationships - and who now finds hope.

    I am only 21. I have been diagnosed with PTSD from numerous doctors and from a few I have early on-sets of scisophrenia. Both are life long, and being told I have early on-sets if scizo scares me. I’m only 21, it’s a life-long and uncurable disease that sadly will only get worse the older I get. It holds me from netting a girlfriend, finding new friends, honestly it prevents me from being an actual human. I have a cat who is my best friend. I have spent about $3k on him and he’s not even a year old. PTSD doesn’t just come from soldiers. I was a “big brother” to all of my sisters in foster care. I was too young to ever be a “big brother” and it haunts me why didn’t I step up even though I was 4? PTSD isn’t just a war diagnosis… I hope everyone knows that

      LSD and mushrooms completely changed my whole outlook on life. I became a better version of myself
      This experience gave me a lot of confidence about my self and my body. A bunch of bad thought / behavior patterns were broken. One of these was pretty bad OCD that made me wash my hands a lot. It gave me a lot of hope that things will be fine, this is the one thing that I heard throughout the trip: Everything is alright. The main reason for the trip was my severe depression and it definitely helped me (although it's not gone). Before all I could do was lay in bed. Now I am trying to rebuild my life one step at a time which wasn't possible before."

      Don't take meth. MDMA is just meth with a "hat" on the molecule made of two oxygen atoms and a methyl group. Magic mushrooms are the true healer, not meth.

    • @audimaster5000
      @audimaster5000 2 роки тому +1

      @@Peter_S_ That’s interesting. I know that often chemicals can be related where slightly different makeup’s can totally change how they affect the body. I’m not familiar with either MDMA or Meth other than meth is considered a neurotoxin. I see Methyl and see how that could be red flag but I dunno.
      I understand Psilocybin is what makes mushrooms work in our brains where one could ride a mountain bike through the woods with so much intensity that the sensation of the earth’s rotation stops. Or something

    • @Peter_S_
      @Peter_S_ 2 роки тому

      @@audimaster5000 I cut meth users out of my life completely the moment I find they use meth while at the same time I believe just about everybody should take psilocybin mushrooms at least once a year. Mushrooms can "reset the compass" and they're pharmacologically harmless. Spiritually they're invaluable. Functionally serotonin is also a psychedelic and everyone is tuned into the serotonin trip channel together so nobody recognizes it as such. Psilocybin just changes the channel for a few hours and allows you to see "the wiring under the board" that holds language and culture together. Mushrooms are like a different key that opens the serotonergic lock without harm to initiate a whole bunch of effects, while MDMA can open that same lock by smashing and destroying it in an act of chemical brain damage without the benefit of the rest of the psychedelic experience.
      The real red flag in this case is alpha-methylated phenylethylamine. Methyl just says there is a group of 3 hydrogen atoms stock to a carbon atom and means nothing on it's own.

      I disagree. People should be free to say what they think. I too have PTSD and therapy has helped me but mostly has been a bandaid . I have tried two of the three therapies you mentioned along with others and still suffer immensely. We need honesty to get better. Just because those treatments you mentioned help some doesn’t include many who suffer still. People should be free to say what they want and free to decide for themselves what path they choose to get better.

      Honestly after using mushrooms, cannabis, mdma and psychotherapy over the course of 17 years, I have to say that without combination therapy, these therapies are all like bandaid at different levels of consciousness. It takes a lot for veterans to seek therapy and there needs to be less stigma associated with psychedelic therapy for it to become part of the solution.
      Antidepressants(SSRI's, SNRI's, MAOI's) work with different neurotransmitters than mdma, than psilocybin, than cannabis.
      And the access to psychotherapy and lack of continuation of care and support around therapies are largely the problem because these people have to be very diligent in their own health and it's a terrible illness to overcome with willpower alone so I hope veterans seek as much therapy as possible and know they are entitled to be cared for after they spent their time in the service protecting our freedoms. 🇺🇲

      They don’t preform the therapy during, they just let you ride it out and keep you safe while under the hallucinogenic. It’s the next day as your brain is resetting they help you work thru the “visions”. Western medicine started looking at it back in the 50’s and showed great results, but it was ham-stringed by Nixon’s CSA, his tool to “go after negro’s and hippies” his words not mine. Hallucinogenics have been used by shaman types in multiple cultures for treating mental type illnesses for well over 5000 years, it’s not new, it’s just western medicine has a tendency to ignore what others have done and like to claim credit for inventing a process when they finally come around to what others had done since the beginning of time.

    Not trying to be pessimistic but even if or when psychedelic therapy is fully approved on the federal level, those who will have access to such treatment are those with money. I work in the mental health field assessing patients in the emergency room, many who are below poverty line, will never have access to this type of treatment because they can’t afford it. Many of these individuals take all kinds of medications that are not working. I know they can benefit from psychedelic therapy but they will never have access to it.

      @kikelomoedward4964I agree, but low income individuals may have access to psychedelics in the street with the risk of having it laced or something. In addition not monitored for their own security. So if they wanted to have this type of treatment the proper way and supervised, they may not be able to afford it. But yes there are different types out there that could be accessible but with risks.

I know how much PTSD can affect a person, but we have some good treatments without this type of drug. I use experiential type therapy, and I will use EMDR and ART therapies. I have very good outcomes. However there are those that don’t respond, so I will look at this more in-depth. I know they have use Ketamine and have had success. *ABC's of Salvation*
    *A* - Admit you're a sinner in need of a Saviour (Romans 3:10, 6:23)
    *B* - Believe that Jesus Christ died for your sins (1Corinthians 15:3-4)
    *C* - Call upon the Name of the Lord and be saved (Romans 10:9-10, 10:13)
    Believe what Jesus Christ did for you on the cross and be saved. As Paul said in the book of *Ephesians 2:8-9* - _For by grace are you saved through faith and that not of yourselves, it is the gift of God. Not of works lest any man should boast._
    *BELIEVE & BE SAVED*
