it sucks that the story dialogue is in Japanese and they should've translated in English in order to understand the case of the story. This arcade game was set in America 1939
+Heat the Dragon - Let's Plays This looks like one of those video games that should be converted into an actual movie, and were talking a horror/action movie in this case.
If Mike Haggar can be the Mayor of Metro City and piledrive people whenever he wants...then there's nothing stopping two Detectives from walking around and beating the holy bejezus out of gutter punks on the street! XD
In the 1920's and 30s it was a different time. You'd beat up on gay black men in 1980s neon tank tops, bearded Jews too poor to afford shoes and disabled Navy vets who didn't even have a full set of limbs and that was OK. Murdering hundreds of people with your fists or a lead pipe was just another weekend at the beach. These days, this game would consist mostly of Rick attending therapy and counseling to further his acceptance of minority and underprivileged groups. "Press A to confront YOURSELF".
This game is similar to Technos' Double Dragon and Capcom's Final Fight. The game spawned a series of beat 'em ups for the Nintendo Super Famicom titled Rushing Beat. The game's two protagonists later made a cameo appearance in another Jaleco game, Chimera Beast.
Lol, you could tell Jaleco desperately wanted to ride the Final Fight hype wave with this one. This is definitely the generic, store-brand soda version of Final Fight.
depois q eu zerei esse game, fiquei pensando que mesmo sendo medianov a franquia tinha muito potencial pra continuar, e colocar os 2 em novas eventuras, contra novos inimigos em outros casos...
Or at least make them visually imposing. Here you're just interrupting some guy's game of billiards. Final Fight had you fight a cripple at the end, but at least they gave him a crazy weapon and chilling laugh.
could have made so many better happy end, i forgot to mention the destroyed building Smell so lazy, the only original and great ending i remember on BTU games is the "Bad ending" easter egg in the first Street of Rage/Bare knuckle. That was so awesome and disturbing in a good way if you find it by accident like me
Does the big guy that is in the shades remind you of a more agile version of Abore from the arcade version of Double Dragon II, or his PC-Engine CD counterpart?
This game caught my eye right after watching it for a couple of minutes, but one thing that doesn't make sense at all is the intro that reads 3 Oct 1939. This is totally out of context by what you see in this game, the enemies look like the 80s or 90s punks with earrings and clothes from those decades. In summary, the game is great!
@@calmbeforethestory it was a typo or something else. There's no way this game is set in the 30s when they don't act like that time. SNK made the same mistake in one of the Fatal Fury games when you beat Geese with Terry, they say Geese was killed in 1913 in the subtitles, and makes no sense at all.
@@GabrielHernandez-uu2wn Maybe you haven't seen the full game? It's pretty obvious that the developers went all-in with their 1930s concept. All of the cars (i.e. both of them) are from the first half of that century and at one point a zeppelin appears (@ 32:23). (That's the extent of "all-in", in many 90s brawlers.) What's throwing us off as an audience are two main things. The developers were from Japan and had hardly any idea or simply didn't care what American thugs may have looked like in the 30s. They also probably used sprites they had lying about or heavily referenced sprites from other games. Secondly, they added a steampunk sci-fi element to their story. There's steampunk robot thugs. With that approach it also doesn't matter how authentic the setting is, because it's apparently a fictional timeline. The thing that actually doesn't make sense is the final boss fight. What an utterly stupid design decision.
*me casually beating an entire squad with a crowbar despite murder taking place* I loved to throw the enemies and just go on a rampage punching everyone.
Yeah, well, it's fucking JALECO after all, what the hell did you expected??? Plus, they were all pretty similar to one other at that time... still, I LOVE beat em' ups so I don't really mind...

This is some excellent detective work.
A detective who smash villain's head with baseball bat is my kind of detective
This game is now available as part of Hamster Corporation's Arcade Archives for the PlayStation 4 and the Nintendo Switch as of October 30th, 2020

1930's my ass look at that bus driver with that mohawk
Not to mention the guy with the mullet, the hip hop guy with sunglasses....
ninja kazan
Thats some sound detective work he has going on there. He's investigating THE SHIT out of those crime scenes.
Thanks James Stephanie Sterling for mentioning this on your podcast, never heard of this game before and this looks like some real goofy fun
The throwing shout I know what I'm hearing I just can't put it in words....
daaaamn!
Ah yeah the 90s when Detective work means oyu have to beat the shit out of people XD
Detective work used to be so hype. Now it's just computer warfare and semen samples. *sigh*

It's more of an 80's Mike Hummer ripoff.
@@OdaVenom , Mike Hammer was made in the 1930s, I think.
Haha, the Final Boss keeps on doing that wonderful jump.
arcticfox04 He tried to jump like Mario. Epic!
The final bosses always be killing me on the spot as I try to regen. I just end up spamming the kick button
You can't throw enemies in the walls and windows or in the water in Final Fight...
At least you can throw them into the wall. 😁
@@edwardgaines6561 😎 I tried to throw the two dudes off the train. Failed horribly and died
This is what the next season of True Detective should be.
If Gumshoe from Ace Attorney had his own game, this should be it.
I remember that when I played this game, I threw as many enemies as I could looking for hidden objects hahaha. And the steel tube was very OP
Wroh!
WROH!
*W R O H*
This game is hardest alone, but with 2 players is awesome
Just like life.
Also for one player is awesome!!!
I found out that this game is on the switch. 😇😇, It's like a dream come true.

LOL. Great stuff.
These are the type of comments that I scroll down for.
This was basically a Final Fight clone, but still pretty fun to play.

Suddenly I need a Ace Attorney beat 'em up spinoff.
It's not about punches, he bash enemies by just wearing a yellow tie on orange pants and blue shoes.
amo esse jogo é o jogo antigo que eu mais amo
That might be the most disappointing final boss in beat 'em up history.
The devs just gave the "hard" enemies a crapton of HP to compensate for the weak AI.
Or at least make them visually imposing. Here you're just interrupting some guy's game of billiards.
